for the first time ever I watched step up #1 and right after, step up 2 the streets.

then a couple of hours later I watched #1 again, and i'll watch #2 tonight..again.. these films were awesome :O can't habeeb i'd never seen them before.

one of the best bits has to be when tyler battles andie at the start of su2 the streets, on the trampolined floor to t-pains church. was incredible

Well I for one LOVE the gore-horror style movies. If graphic rape scenes in a movie churn your stomach inside out, then it appears as though the director accomplished his goal. Honestly no one wants to think about that shit really happening, especially to someone they know and... may even like. Sometimes it's a vital part of the plot. Other times, yeah, it's purely for the shock value and they aren't trying to make you "jump" as much as they are trying to make you "squirm".

For example: The Devil's Rejects

When the guy comes back to the motel room and is greeted at the door by Baby. She ushers him in, at which point he sees everyone huddled together on the bed and they shoot him through the back of the head and his brains go flying all over their faces. That's "shocking" and "horrific", thusly why the movie is probably found in the "horror" category.

Let's say you had a movie that was billed as a "horror movie" in which the main bad guy was a character who abducted, sexually assaulted/tortured, and murdered underage children. Obviously I don't think such a movie would ever be able to get made since raping children is definitely against the law. But hypotetically, lets say such a movie existed which showed a kid getting it's clothes violently ripped off and some guy smacking it around and trying to fuck the poor kid up the ass. That would be preeeeeeetty damned shocking and horrific and would definitely make me squirm and disgust me thoroughly. I wouldn't want to see that. But that in and of itself is WHY someone would show something like that in a graphic nature, to FORCE the viewer to witness something truly disturbing.

Once again, let me make one thing perfectly clear before anyone flips out, NO, I don't like sexually assaulting kids, nor do I like watching movies about it, nor do I WANT to see a movie about it. But on the whole, I DO enjoy a movie with some over-the-top gore and maybe even a scene of some poor bitch getting raped and hacked to pieces. I write songs about that kind of crazy shit. But you'll NEVER see me write anything about some lunatic that sexually assaults children, that's one "edgey" topic for gore-horror movies and my gore-metal music that I won't go ANYWHERE near.

I've actually seen sites where guys do their own special FX makeup and do photoshoots where they act like masked serial killers. They have some poor scantily clad little bitch bound and gagged and they make the photos look pretty graphic. They depict themselves mutilating them, dismembering them, sodomizing the corpse, etc. They make the makeup look pretty real too, with ligature marks, blueish skin and post-mortem bruising, it's nuts. The world is full of people with weird fantasies. When it goes from "fantasy" to "reality", that is the only place where I really have any objections to it.

I'm not sure who, what, or where you are arguing any of that. I never made any attempt to say that gore is not horror. I simply explained why I dislike gore movies for the sake of gore. Also, none of the movies that you mention hold a candle to real horror like the original the Haunting. The average low budget Chinese horror is scarier than any gore movie, and an average gore movie's plot, acting, and directing tend to make me regularly beg for a Vincent Price movie.

Also, all effective scary movies run off of a simple formula. Take a regular activity and make it scary. Jaws = swimming. Arachnaphobia = spiders. The Ring = Video tapes (LOLz, bad example). I liked house of 1000 Corpses because it had that same theme to it. I liked the Devils Rejects for a different reason. Neither of which I consider gore for gore sakes. They had plenty of gore, but they were hardly Hostel 2 or Touristas. (both equally crappy gore for gore sake movies)

Just watched 'The Big Lebowski'...

Seen it plenty of times, still never gets old. Movie is fucking hilarious, if anyone hasn't seen it I recommend it...

Had me in tears.

Crappy action flick until you reach the ending fight. Let's just say that Dolf Lundgren has a field day with a double barrel shotgun.
