never heard of the doc but that's the synopsis of it is what puts worried in many many many US farmers. Not really the large ones, they make out on the deal, but the smaller ones, like the ones around me.

biggest thing that gets me is that the companies can even successfully sue (and win) against someone who never even signed up with them.

Star Trek....

Story... 8/10
Can't even describe the premise without leading to some accurate predictions. Must see. ( StarTrek > Lost ... ty J.J. Abrams)

Graphics... ?/10
Unsure as I have yet to see it in IMAX...to compare it to current standards I'd give it a 10. Yet, the current movies I have seen were in IMAX..this, not yet....will see it again (in IAMX

Loved it, loved it, loved it. This is a great reboot of the series.

I cannot believe how good the casting was on this. Every...Single...Character... is a spitting image of the original. Sure, sure they have had plenty of time to research their roles, but every single actor has risen to the challenge and exemplified the essence of their role.

I really hope they make another.

Hell....Hollywood needs to rebooted like this.

Saw Star Trek this morning, enjoyed it.

Considering the director and some of the main actors claimed to have little knowledge of or affection for the original series, they seemed to recreate the essence of several of the original characters really well.

Plus, Uhura is hot.

Was mad that the previews gave away too much information and also was mad that on the news they spoke of bale signed with two more terminator movie contracts...so you know too much to begin with.

Decent movie though.

Death Factory: The Blood Letting 6/10

Extremely low budget but still very good. Very gritty and gory which accomplished it's goals. Also had some really hate-able bad guys.

Not bad, mostly sudden loud sounds and visuals. Felt like it was aimed at a younger audience, probably hence the pg13 rating. I enjoyed it tho.

Definitely. It used to be that they made R-rated horror movies like Scream, which were obviously marketed towards high schoolers on date night. But of course, some of these theaters are hard-asses and check peoples ID both when buying the ticket AND entering the theater itself. Hollywood wants more money, so they make this cheesy "UNhorror" bullshit and do whatever it takes to convince the MPAA to give it a PG13 rating.

These days, a good rule of thumb is "PG13 horror movies aren't worth the ticket price."

These days hollywood has abandoned classic horror, and even 80's/90's horror for the pop up scare genre. Yes, every horror film has some point in which the music gets tense and then a loud noise happens while a cat or something jumps out of a cupboard. The difference today is that the whole movie is comprised of that rather than using it as as a tool to assist the entertainment value.

Beyond that, the Japanese(Asian) horror genre (which I thoroughly enjoy) has influenced American horror so much that all we get anymore are "psychological thrillers" that happen to have ghosts, and then probably turn out not to because ripping off Jacob's Ladder/Fight Club/6th Sense/Momento is all the rage today. *$%^$%ing hollywood morons. So you can generally assume that ALL horror movies suck, aren't worth paying for, and aren't as good as Hellraiser. Even bad Hellraiser psychological thrillers that rip off Jacob's ladder (Hellraiser 5, 6, and 7) are better than today's crap that attempt the same thing.

It's not about originality, it's about cookie cutter copies. The only relatively good horror movies any more have been remakes. That Shia La Poofyhair remake of Rear Window wasn't bad, but wasn't great. The Pulse remake was pretty good. Grudge 1 was good (grudge 2 was an abomination of the horror genre). It gets to the point that a low budget movie like the one I mentioned in my last post (Death Factory: the Blood Letting) is more original than newer horror like An American Haunting and The Uninvited. The funny thing is that the low budget Death Factory wasn't trying to be original. It was trying to be a generic "gore for the sake of gore" movie, which I usually dislike.

It's all in style. The style today that is popular, is also crap. You really have to look to the obscure references to find a good horror today. 8 films to die for, Masters of Horror, low budgets like The Final Patient, and older lower budget Stephen King movies like In The Mouth of Madness.

I've been told Alien is a horror movie but I always found it to be a suspense. If that's considered "horror" then I won't say all are bad, that one's awesome. But then starship troopers should be horror too. Quite a bit of gore in that one, and an awesome movie.

Alien is a horror movie because it was built off of (or invented?) the kill off the group 1 by 1 style. Start with a group of people, make the audience decide who survives, and kill off the rest of the cast in interesting and new ways. Alien (although infinitely better than) is comparable to Scream in that regard.

It's actually a pretty standard horror set up. Isolate a group of people and insert a killer.
