Generation Kill - 10/10

Watched this start to finish a couple of weeks ago. It's not a movie. It's a 7 part HBO miniseries from 2008, each episode is about an hour and 15 minutes long. The story is about a Rolling Stones reporter that embeds with 1st Recon Marines and follows them around Iraq as they enter the country after 9/11 to oust Saddam Hussein. It had a few action sequences in it, but not a whole hell of a lot of them like Band of Brothers or The Pacific did. It had several funny moments that had me laughing my ass off. One part where a guy is laying in a prone position as a tank goes by and he yells at the reporter, "If you lay with your dick pressed into the ground when a tank rolls by, it feels GREAT!!!"

Resident Evil : Retribution

Saw this the other week. Story is a bit confusing. Its like watching something while your in shrooms.
The intro action scene was awesome though.
Still worth the watch though specially your an avid fan of the series.

Hondo (1953) - 9/10

Starring John Wayne. The Duke is the shit. If you ever get bored watching newer movies, try watching some older ones. Anything with John Wayne is usually good. The man starred in somewhere over 150 movies from the late 1920's to 1976. He wasn't in that many movies by accident. He was a great actor, particularly in westerns. Basic synopsis: an Army dispatch rider who discovers a woman and her young son living alone on a ranch in the middle of Apache territory as the Apaches begin declaring war on the US troops, and he soon feels its his duty to protect them.

Rio Bravo (1959) 9/10

Another John Wayne movie, also starring Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, and a very hot and very fuckable Angie Dickinson. SCHWING! Basic synopsis via IMDB: "A small-town sheriff in the American West enlists the help of a cripple, a drunk, and a young gunfighter in his efforts to hold in jail the brother of the local bad guy." Doesn't sound like much a movie from that little blurb, but trust me, it's a lot more interesting than that one sentence makes it sound. I think most people would probably rank this among the top 20 best westerns of all time, and considering there are an ASSLOAD of westerns out there, that's actually saying something.

The Expendables 2: 9/10.  It's an 80/90's action movie with an 80/90's cast.  I liked it quite a bit, it reminded me of Galaxy Quest: the movie makes fun of itself at times and there's several jokes about the characters other movies.  Plot is the Expendables team has one of their own killed on a job and now they want revenge.

Mindless fun.

IDK but i got this feeling that the director tried to elicit some emotions from the audience but just draw your own conclusions bout this movie.

I found it to be one of those "thinker" types of movies, as in it shows a few pretty fucked up scenes and situations and kinda forces the viewer to think about how they might handle the same scenario. An examination of how people handle stress and fear along with how a person copes with the knowledge that their death is imminent and unavoidable. Things that most people would rather not think about because of how unpleasant it is.

At first I thought the ending was too abrupt. It left me thinking, "WTF! WHAT HAPPENS! THAT'S THE END!?!" But honestly I don't think there's any better way to end it. You're 99% sure he gets mauled to death, and if the film showed that and THEN decided to end, it just wouldn't have the same impact. From the moment the plane goes down until the end of the movie, every single piece of plot and scenery goes towards creating an unsettling and unnerving mood. The abrupt unfinished ending just serves to take that same theme and kick you right in the nuts with it.
