Contagion

I don't know how to rate it. On a theatrics scale, it was a crappy homage to Outbreak. On a creepy scale, it wasn't at all. On a realism scale, it wasn't but it took itself so seriously that any minor error is a big deal. So how do you look at it?

I guess it's good and I recommend it. The directing was superb and the subtle political bits were great story telling aspects. It just doesn't live up to any of its own expectations.

The movie broke my heart from the very beginning, i had a really hard time convincing myself to finish the movie and im a total germaphobe and the way they showed the spreading of virus i couldn't touch public things without thinking twice lol

I guess after following the media joke that was the swine flu, I noticed the consistent inconsistencies in the movie. The people they killed off in the beginning really did tick me off. It was like they were actively trying to make the audience angry. And don't start with that realism/unrealism crap because this movie felt it should be psuedo-realistic in places (which were all detriments to the film as a whole) and felt that it could take poetic license in other places, which were the parts I really liked.

That's why you get things like one house in a peaceful suburb getting murdered by bandits, but the same suburb remains completely crime free for the remainder of the movie.

I don't find myself being this harsh on movies like Outbreak or The Crazies because they don't have this "LOOK AT ME, I'M A SERIOUS AND REALISTIC MOVIE!!!" marketing gimmick slapped over them. They are just a story placed in a fictional setting with nothing but fictional elements and a reasonable suspension of disbelief.

Noooooooooo, but Hugh Jackman is a GREAT actor. Better than Daniel Day Lewis, better than Leonardo DiCaprio, although not quite as good as Keanu Reeves.

Hope you didn't pay money for that movie.

Gotta be honest, I liked Hugh Jackman until watching this movie. It's like Kevin Bacon in Sleepers. You never look at him the same again.

I did pay the $1.20 redbox price for it. I still feel cheated.

I've seen both, I can't see ANY resemblance to Oubreak what-so-ever. Not even in the same ballpark. I also got the seriousness of Contagion. It can AND has happened to a smaller extent. Also, being in the restaurant business for many many years I can totally see the initial spread of it coming from some moron chef not washing his hands.

HAHA funny story on that one. The next morning after watching it i was at work and this women and her little daughter came in to by some medicine. I asked her if her little girl was feeling bad. Now mind you, they had both done handle the medicine i was scanning, put their hands on the counter, the mom had run her card and used her fingers for the touch screen, etc etc. So she answered me with "Yea we just came back from the doctors and she has pink eye" So yea, i'm thinking back to Contagion and in my mind I was "Oh well thats just fucking great". One of my favorite rolls he played in was in Road House!

OK, last movie i saw:
Underworld: Awakening 3D
WAY WAY over the top with the amount of punishment she was able to spring back up from like nothing, and i'm an Underworld fan.
Great special effects though, good movie if you can get past what she just gets right back up from.
Best scene: Elevator shaft scene, again though what she gets right back up from in that scene is impossible even for total badass vampires.

I have to say that I have no freaking clue what you could possibly mean by this statement. They are the two biggest and most well known movies about a highly infections virus... killing within 3 days... and a government lock down being enforced which causes lots of harm to the people involved.

Recognizing the stark contrasts between the way that one (outbreak) is a theatrical story with a clear level of suspension of disbelief and the other (Contagion) takes itself so seriously that any plot hole or misstated fact ends it's suspension of disbelief, is a point that I thought I made well. They are very dissimilar in style and overall plot, but they are in the same secluded sub-genre. Not comparing the two is like not comparing Return of the Living Dead with Night of the Living Dead.

One of my favorite rolls he played in was in Road House!

He played a great Al Capone in some movie back in the early 70's I think. I forget the name of it. Time to wiki and google...

Hehe, Wikipedia says it's called "Capone" I guess. Made in 1975. He looked a helluva lot more like Capone than Robert De Niro ever did in The Untouchables.

That's actually the very first thing I said when watching Contagion. The scene where Matt Damon is at the hospital shows that the virus kills so fast, that the plot couldn't allow him to have time to mourn.

I mean I liked the movie. I honestly hope they make more like it. I just have to mention that the whole "Look at me, I'm the most serious and realistic movie you ever saw!!!!" theme just accentuates the plot holes. (And the theme was not made to increase the quality of the story, but to attempt to repeat the Jaws affect)

Yea thats what I was refering to when I said I couldn't see any similarities. But if your going to use the genre as a basis for comparison then we can't ignore King's "The Stand"

Yea but Pink Eye is one of the most contagious things out there. And they're touching all over everything ??? Really ??? LOL
And thats right after watching "THAT" movie ? LOL. You can imagina how I fealt right at that moment. "Holy shit ! Pink Eye ? LOCKDOWN !!!! Thing is though wether I watched that movie or not, the mom showed a total lack of concern for anyone else whatsoever.
