Not as big of a Ford fan as I am of a Dodge/Chrysler fan. But brand loyalty doesn't mean a fucking thing when it comes to the old GT350's from 66-69. It doesn't matter what you like, EVERYONE agrees that those were some of the most badass motherfuckers to ever prowl the streets of America. I don't think the new GT350's are anywhere near the same kind of car as the originals, but as a money-making marketing play for Ford, at least they've kinda done the Shelby GT350 justice. Can't say the same for some of Dodge's rehashes of classic muscle. ::) The latest Dodge Darts for example. Total piece of shit mom-mobile. They should've let the name "Dart" remain in slumber if they were only gonna do... THAT to it, jeeeeeesus.

Had a blast this Friday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Got a little over 2 hours of track time (spread out over six 20 minute segments.)

Here's someone who actually knows how to drive, on the same track configuration:

I imagine that shit wasn't cheap. A buddy of mine did the Richard Petty experience thing at Atlanta Motor Speedway last year and it cost him a good bit over a grand. :mrdead:

Ah. It indeed wasn't cheap, but it wasn't quite that bad.

It was via https://www.hookedondriving.com/ , and was in the neighborhood of $400.

My buddy got the biggest package they had, did 50 laps I think, and I'd guess that huge price tag mostly goes to cover the expensive racing fuel and the insurance if you happen to hit the wall. It's probably a little pricier based on the Richard Petty name attached to it as well. Most people I've ever heard of that do it usually get the package where you just ride passenger and someone else drives you around at top speeds around 150mph depending on the size of the track. That would be kinda pointless in my opinion. I've done 110 on a Harley Davidson. 160 in the passenger seat of a 600hp race car with roll bars is kinda like... meh. Sure, it'd be fun, but not "400 bucks" fun.

It looks like Dwain had lap times of 1:50 and you had 2:13 - not bad for a newbie  :evilgrin:

Yeah, that's basically what I'd say, especially at the end. Don't buy one. Used cars are literally the biggest ripoff you'll ever get suckered into. And most people don't have a choice I guess, they just can't afford a new car or don't have the credit to finance one even if they CAN afford it. Always buy NEW though. Baby it. Keep it pristine clean always. Change the oil every 3000 miles. Sure, you can go 5000 and be fine, but its always best to have the oil as clean as possible. And NEVER let the dealership work on your car unless you HAVE to due to a scheduled maintenance thing thats part of the warranty. For basic shit like oil changes, tire rotations, and diff lubes, they're fine. But don't let those fuckers touch anything mechanical that need repairing or replacing. You never know who the fuck they have working back there, and they'll charge you more than anyone else for the work. Bottom line, if it's new, you know what's been done to it and how it's been treated. And if you always baby it and treat it like the hugely expensive fucking thing that it is, chances are its gonna last a lot longer. And as a bonus, if you always keep every inch of it spic and span, you'll probably get more for it if you trade it or sell it yourself. Used cars are for suckers, plain and simple. Unless it's a car someone you personally know (like an uncle or a brother-in-law or a best friend) has owned for a while and you know for a fact they've maintained it and pampered it like they would a lingerie model girlfriend, then don't even fucking go there.

I've seen a CAT 3208 have 40,000 hours on it without an oil change, ever, just filters. It HAD to have an oil change at 23k though when it had an engine rebuild and overhaul.

No, I'm not saying don't change your oil every 3,000 miles. It's a good thing, but, oil doesn't go bad. It only gets contaminated, and theoretically if your filters do their job you shouldn't have to worry about it much.

When oil is full of crap from the shitty regular unleaded most people get these days, then in my opinion, the oil is "bad" at 3000 miles. That crap in the oil tattoos itself all over the inside of the engine and reduces performance over time. If you wanna take better care of your vehicle, take better care of your vehicle, simple as that. And simply buying premium instead of regular unleaded is not a suitable substitute for changing the oil at the most optimal interval. Higher octane isn't necessarily cleaner, it's just higher octane and will give higher compression than regular before it fires. That can sometimes be bad for the engine if it isn't designed to handle it.

Big Diesel engines are different anyway, yeah. I haven't changed oil in the cat 3054 in the machine that I run, ever, but they burn oil so ya gotta add some semi frequently depending on how hard you run it into the ground.....and, change filters.

I applied the same "theoretical" knowledge to gas cuz technically it's true, hydrocarbons/oils can't degrade they just get contaminated. So your filters either work or they don't(they don't).

but, if I've been using mobile one synthetic from the start and only been putting highway miles on a gas engine, Im fine with adding a quart and changing the filter after 3k miles.
