Quake / Re: How swin fast and user the waterjumps?
« on: May 30, 2009, 01:23:20 PM »
I believe if you are against a wall while underwater, if you hold forward and strafe in the direction of the wall, and kinda turn your mouse slightly towards the wall you're strafing against you can accelerate a bit.  Not sure if you can really swim faster unless one part of you is touching a wall.

It's just a single word.  Omitting it from your vocabulary for a small number of outlets shouldn't be THAT constraining on your ability to express yourself, is it?

Quake / Re: Servers and Alias's from your Q2 past
« on: May 23, 2009, 06:44:18 AM »
Quick history of Q2 for me.  Downloaded the demo in '97 I believe, right after it came out.  Played it (single player only), thought it was lame, and didn't try it again till '99.  In '99 AOL had a warez scene going on, and I found Quake 2 available there and gave it another shot.  I was using AOL dial-up at the time, but even with 300-400 ping and horrible packet loss, multiplayer really grabbed ahold of me.  I started out on a single player maps server, it was possibly called magic.net based out of the Orlando area.  Through in-game conversations, I learned that having a "real" ISP could very well lower my ping and improve the game's playability by a LOT, since broadband wasn't available in the area at the time.  After switching to the magic.net ISP, I now had a very-nice-for-dial-up ping of 125ms to the magic.net server.  Over time I went to another Orlando area ISP (can't recall the name) that had their own quake 2 server as well, based on DM maps, then had single-channel? ISDN, DSL, then finally cable.

I've used a TON of random handles here and there over the years, but the only two I ever really stuck with were my current "Punk>FAS>", which has been the same for probably close to 8+ years now, and before that I was a number of variations of Bloodlust, {SfH}Bloodlust, {TM}.Bloodlust, Bloodlust[USA], etc.  I was in a competing rail clan for a very short while, I think I was (LIK)Bloodlust then.

Quake / Re: The Official Quadz Appreciation Thread

Because without His Holiness, none of this could be possible. He makes the sun shine. He makes the grass green. He makes the all the little birdies sing. He puts the crunch in Cap'n Crunch. He make the babies cute. He makes farts funny. And when those farts might have a little more juice to air ratio than we expect, he gives us the glorious gift of 2-ply toilet tissue with which to wipe our tender nether-regions.

Did you know that the great Michaelangelo once painted his likeness on a beautiful tapestry?

So to Quadz, my Creator and Holy Light, I place all my faith in thee and pledge to you my undying allegiance. Wherever you lead me, Lord, I shall follow, even unto death. What nation shall I conquer and convert (and/or enslave) for your honor and glory?

Hopefully my brevity doesn't make this seem any less sincere, but.... DITTO

The Strangers - still not sure what I felt about it, some moments were pretty intense, although it dragged on.  The final scene was pretty rough, just imagining going through something like that....

I thought The Strangers was pretty lame.  I was hoping for a good scary horror movie, but it was just underwhelming.  Nothing really scary to me, just a couple SURPRISE! moments good for a minor jump, but even then the surprises were fairly telegraphed.

The gore was fairly minimal too IMO.

For a good gore movie, watch "Wrong Turn 2", that was pretty good in that regard.  Overall just a so-so movie, but entertaining at least.

Notice near the end of the clip how that customer is so unaffected by the fact that this guy is firing a gun and apparently shot, "Man, I ain't got no phone..." then carrying on trying to pay for his gas like it's business as usual "Gimme 5 on 1 man", and then repeats himself.  Looks like he reaches for something on the counter and maybe stuffs it in his pocket too, but the video gets a little fuzzier at that point.

It's great!  Was quite visually different than the way I had it setup before, but it's a BIG improvement.  Visibility is definitely improved.

To be honest... the same applies to Windows, and it takes far, far less effort with that to accomplish the same level of damage as a 'rooted' NIX system.

I personally think Ubuntu is as user friendly as it comes. Picking on a new user because they are having problems with an oddball, problematic NIC is ignorant and counterproductive.

Hope you don't consider yourself a linux advocate.

to be honest... you shouldn't even be using linux if you have no idea what the fuck you are doing. or you can just run it and have someone root you.

Well said

i'm not picking on him, i'm just give him the hard cold facts.

Why not lend him a hand instead?

I don't see how this would be useful, it would likely just end up stacking the teams 50% of the time. It's up to the players to know their skill level and create fair teams.

Haunted beat me to it, but yeah, currently teams are stacked MUCH more than 50% of the time anyway.

I think it's a great idea.  Gives TDM more of a variety.

NO PS?!!1

ARRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

I s'pose we could try something like the way the "dm" server alternates between powerups on, and off...

Could possibly have warehouse alternate between PS on, and off... ?

:exqueezeme:

Don't mess with what isn't broken!  This doesn't need to be DM8 Sheridan, no need to have any super focus items I don't think.  Let's focus on the fragging! =)))
