Guess it is lag prediction for a player which has disconnected but your client doesn't realize.  Your client is predicting a rubber-banding, then the server corrects you and you feel a "lag" effect.

if you're interested in black holes in games check out "klingon academy".  Not only is there black holes, there's nothing awesomer then taking out a dreadnought's impulse drive with a frigate near a black hole & watch it helplessly fall in to it.  :D

Actually,  those Big pillars of light are jets (thought to be) produced by massive/active black holes at the center of galaxies.

I think of a galaxy as one big accretion disk :)

I'm fairly certain that you're talking about an issue that has existed for a while. It seems to only affect the TS servers from what I've seen but it is consistently reproducible. There actually are a lot more instances in the Xatrix maps.


But basically there are some areas that when a player passes through it, the client lags a bit and the body can seem to lose some client commands.

I believe that there is a spot in lab that causes this. I know of 2 that I've long since forgetting the filenames to. One resembles the edge a little. It's the second map in the series and it was made by a regular here. There's pipe running underneath a long platform that has a red armor, this platform leads to stairs downward and platform that comes up from the bottom floor. The arena area has spiral steps like edge. On the other side of the arena is a mega in a window that can be accessed by boxes behind it that also have a yellow armor. I really should know the name but i forgot.

Anyway, one side of the yellow armor boxes has an anomaly that causes players to lag a bit in midair and can drop the second jump command making the double jump difficult. This anomaly is consistent and is always in the same place.

I decompiled this map and another xatrix map that had the problem a while ago. Every spot contains a sound entity. BUT not every spot containing a sound entity causes the problem. So something about those sound entities is causing the problem. I think that it may have something to do with overrides. I was never able to reproduce the problem when I would play the maps locally. So it's a mystery what causes it. I also don't know if it only affects certain clients or all clients.

I'm sure that we can debug this thing fairly quickly with everyone's input.

a hickup in a players sound output while walking around with rail..  sticks the rail sound in one spot and keeps it there.

Could check where people are bumping into them to see if these "random" ones are also tied to something.
 Went to record a demo of one and the fraglimit was hit at the very moment I got over to it.

Interesting idea being an entity prob,  like a tiny box the size of a light entity, world solid but not rendered.

Could expeiment.   I made a small map,  kinda in a v shape.
 In each hall there is the tiniest block I could make,  (started with light entity block size,  that you walk dead into)
 turned 45 degrees on the right hall.

It doesnt seem to have the same effect.  Sometimes you skim it, and others you walk dead against it.

I'm understanding the server correction angle now,
 like you skim or hit something like this,  and the server corrects it.


anyhooo,  Going outside.

Be neat to have this answered,  but I like glitches.
 I miss the totally once in awhile, random,  one map only, till you die AT ALL invisibility glitch. 
Would be kewl to have that recoded into the server

Someone else taught me (I think it was Rigg5) how to duplicate this bug.  It only worked on servers running Quake 3.19, but I was able to duplicate it every time.  I loved going invis on dm6, and standing right where the railgun is, and have people try to jump for the rail (coming from the RL area) and bump into me over and over and fall into the lava.  They were always like "WTF??", haha =)  That's been AGES ago... was a HPB back then.
