Great weekend of fights.

UFC ppv on Saturday night, then The Ultimate Fighter finales on Sunday night.

It's almost getting kinda boring watching Rhonda Rousey fights. Nothing to get excited about. She's done rolled over everyone in her weight class up and down the rankings list. She completely wrecked Alexis Davis in less than 20 seconds. Blinked twice and it was over.

They're talking about maybe Cris Cyborg challenging next. And Cyborg's probably one of only two women in the world that might last longer than a round with Rousey. But since Rousey's been working on her punching a shitload, I dunno that that's true anymore.

Was really cool seeing Lyoto Machida finally getting his shit pushed in. I usually absolutely HATE watching him fight. He scoots in, stabs and jabs, then scoots out. Never initiates ANY exchanges, he just waits on the other guy to initiate, then sneaks in shots after the other guy fires. But Weidman was up in his shit pretty much the whole time never giving him a chance to get comfortable. Wasn't until about the 3rd round that Machida figured out that his usual bitch-boy tactics weren't gonna work and then he started getting more aggressive and initiating contact. And that was when it actually started getting interesting to watch. Before that, it was just Weidman laying a gradual continuous beating on Machida. All in all, a great main event, especially considering a lot of the main events lately haven't really lived up to the hype and have been kinda one-sided.

Sunday night wasn't as good though. For fuck's sake, WHY did BJ Penn get it into his head to try a comeback starting with Frankie Edgar? He looked like he just completely forgot how to fight. He was standing straight up, shoulders back, tip toeing around like a sissy-boy. Just awful. He never had a chance. BJ Penn's heroic inspirational comeback? Pfft. Should've stayed gone.

yeah, miesha tate and cyborg are probably the only two that can hang with rhonda. maybe that cat zingano chick that KO'd miesha. She was supposed to fight rhonda a few months back but was injured.

And, weidman is the man. hilarious how the UFC fanbase(a lot of brazillian and brazillian fanboys) STILL don't give him credit. The top rated comments post-fight were "Still not impressed with weidman" "He barely beat the dragon, barely winning 3 of 5 rounds" and stuff. Haters.

Yeah. He got in plenty of trouble though. Towards the end, Machida actually had opportunities to win, which is why I say it turned out to be an interesting fight. Problem is Machida always plays too cautious when it would be to his advantage to rush his opponent and start overwhelming them with strikes. That's precisely why the last two TUF fighters who won last night won their fights. They pounced on their opponent and smothered them with furious strikes when they saw that they had them rocked.

Weidman's pretty good, but this last fight kinda shows that he ain't invincible. Someone with a solid enough chin to eat a few shots and balls big enough to get in tight with him and start swinging could bring him down.

One fight I'm looking forward to is the TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao rematch. I don't think I had ever seen TJ Dillashaw fight until he took the title from Barao. But HOLY SHIT, that kids got the speed and endurance of Mighty Mouse Johnson. He made Barao look like an amateur.

It probably WILL be her and rhonda next. Dana white has been obviously avoiding the rhonda v. cyborg match for whatever reason($ related i'm sure), although it's inevitable.

The fight I've been looking forward to most, is the rematch between champ Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. I really started liking him as a fighter with some of the changes he made. It's obvious if you've followed him, and it's represented in his record(following his only loss/getting KO'd by Aldo):

I missed his most recent fight, but saw all the rest up until then. Not only did he destroy clay guida, but also his aspirations of competing at featherweight, haha. Haven't heard from him since and they were hyping his move from 155 to 145.

pfft, she'd never in a million years get in the right position to do some shit like that to Rousey. I didn't used to give too much of a shit about Rhonda Rousey until the last two fights. Now that she's made it abundantly clear to all her challengers that she can beat them to death with her fists too, she's become a lot more exciting to watch. Dunno about anyone else, but I don't find submission wins to be as entertaining as KO's. And in HER case, it was always, "Gee... I wonder how this one's gonna end. Arm bar... for the 40 millionth time?"

Another thing I think I noticed from either last Saturday nights PPV or TUF finale on Sunday night was one guy attempting some kinda axe kick to a downed opponent, might've been when BJ Penn was on his back against Frankie Edgar (like he was MOST of the time). Don't make much sense how they ban kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent (with at least one hand on the mat), yet they say nothing about that technique. Sure, it's aimed "down" like a punch would be, but it's still a strike with the leg which is gonna have more power than a punch and could easily crush someones windpipe and kill them.
