Tropic Thunder - Ben Stiller is class

You probably either love or hate this film - for me there were about 3 or 4 pure class comedy moments that made it all worthwhile.  I think Stiller is a seriously funny dude.
The film was an off-beat comedy along the same sort of humour as Zoolander was.  If you liked Zoolander then this is a must.

In all honesty it was a 3/10, but this morning I couldn't get all of the horribly offensive content out of my head. It's all about the terrible after taste. Guaranteed to offend everyone! Go see it today!

Sunshine: -  I watched it on the big screen last year and just bought the dvd. One of the better sci-fi movies I've seen in a long time and the visuals and dramatic soundtrack are fantastic. Personally I belief that human beings have absolutely no long-term business out there in space and this movie seems to confirm that thought, it's too fucking hostile. I don't know for some reason it was one of those movies that made an impression and stayed in my mind and not many movies do that so I give this one a [9/10.]

The RWS mailing lists were spammed with newsletters announcing it's release on DVD a few weeks ago. Hollywood video didn't have it at first, I think they refused to carry it. But just in the past week or so they got a copy.

The Devil's Chair 1/10

This movie is absolutely amazing for about 85 minutes. Then on minute 86 they decide to F up the entire plot, set up, and character by turning the entire movie into a single scene from the Night Flier. I mean this movie is a better version of that single scene. But it's still a pretty sh##ty kind of a move to rip off a single scene from a Stephen King movie and try to pass it off as your own. As well as expect an audience to accept 1/32nd of a movie as your whole movie.

So I just finished watching Panj's recommendation of Sunshine...


This movie was breathtaking. I can't say I can name the specific FOX SEARCHLIGHT films that I have watched, yet every one has been either a jaw dropper or an eye open'er.

Sunshine: 9/10


*on a tangent: purchase a bluray player and a 1080p capable screen. The definition of this technology is amazing. Better than theater quality for those who aren't the best "optically".

I just saw "The Day of the Jackal" - the 1973 film. 

They made a more recent remake of it called Jackal with Bruce Willis not that long ago.  Well, after searching for a good movie and checking all the ratings this movie consistently came up as one of the top of all time!  Thus the remake...

It did not live up to its reputation.  Certainly because it is dated.  But man, how dated.

The story is this: a hit man is hired to kill Charles de Gaulle, the French President, because he decided to allow Algeria its independence.  This enrages some segments of the French population and they decide to assassinate de Gaulle. 

When they first meet with the hitman.  He comes in, tells them it will cost $500,000.  He'll need half now, half after it's finished.  They reluctantly but quickly agree.  He then tells them to wire the money to a certain bank account and that effectively he will disappear and not be able to be contacted by them...  They take it in stride and out he goes essentially with $250,000 and no way to be contacted.  There are these sort of story problems throughout the movie.

Of course, you have to take the movie with a grain of salt.  It's old, and it's interesting more for what they can get away with in the story than the story itself, which ploddingly moves slowly, slowly along.  It was 2.5 hours and really boring.

Interesting to see what the ancestor of the spy/action type flick was though!
