art, music, etc. / Ozzy Osbourne
« on: February 05, 2025, 03:15:34 PM »
"ONE LAST TIME... THE FINAL SHOW..."

Yeah well... we've all heard that one before. It's always "the last tour"... until the next one happens.

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath announce final show

At this point, do we even accurately remember when the FIRST TIME that the LAST TIME was supposed to happen? I can't remember if after Randy Rhoads died there was any talk of Ozzy hanging it up. But I do definitely remember that after No More Tears came out in 1991, that tour afterwards was supposed to be his "farewell tour" (the tour itself was called "No More Tours"), which resulted in the 1993 live album Live & Loud, which I thought was a fantastic live album. It really showed just how great of a guitar player Zakk Wylde really was. On the Live & Loud version of Shot in the Dark (originally from The Ultimate Sin, 1986, guitar: Jake E Lee), Zakk played it a tad bit different from Jake E Lee's version, and I always thought Zakk's choice of notes flowed smoother and sounded better.

But then in 1995, he comes out with Ozzmosis. Then the tour after THAT was supposed to be the final tour. Then in 1998 he releases his greatest hits album, Ozzman Cometh, which featured the track that became a hit, Back on Earth. I remember the video got a good amount of play on MTV - the video was a spoof of the old 1922 silent vampire film Nosferatu. The song was actually an unreleased track from the Ozzmosis album, and at the time Ozzman Cometh came out, Zakk Wylde had started his own thing as Black Label Society, so thats when guitarist Joe Holmes joined. I remember seeing Joe Holmes in a live performance Ozzy did on MTV to promote the Ozzman Cometh Greatest Hits album. At that point, Ozzy's voice was GONE. He sounded awful. And I guess they hadn't quite gotten to the point where live digital pitch correction was possible like nowdays, because it sounded BAD. I remember thinking, "God damn, I wish he would've retired, I really don't like remembering him this way."

After that... the 90's were over and I kinda lost interest in Ozzy and lost track of what he was doing. I was a super-duper Ozzy fan in the 90's, collecting all of his albums, listening to them ALL THE TIME. I just looked in my mp3 collection, and I do have the 4 albums that came after Ozzman Cometh (Down to Earth - 2001, Under Cover - 2005, Black Rain - 2007, Scream - 2010), but I honestly couldn't name one single song from any of those albums because I've almost NEVER listened to them.

Part of me wishes he really would've retired for good back in the late 90's. I get why he hasn't. For a musician, music is always there in your head, in your blood, and you can't just turn it off. You can try, but it's still there.

Ozzy ain't getting any younger. He isn't in the best health anymore. Is this "THE LAST" tour, or is this just "the last one... until the next one"... again? I say he'll be back. And this thread is here so that when he does come back, I can point to it and say "Told ya so." ;)

Quake / Quake 2 needs a public square
« on: April 21, 2024, 01:51:14 PM »
It has come to my attention that Quake2 needs a public square. A place where anyone is allowed to come and post whatever message they like, even ones that might be critical of the administration, because freedom of speech is important. However, some of us recognize that not ALL speech should be free. Maybe the admins have committed the sin of banning someone because they were doxing people, giving out their home address, possibly being a physical threat to that person, their family, and their property. Is that so bad? Well, some of us appear to object to it. On the other hand, it should be noted that the admins have also intervened on behalf of certain aggrieved parties to limit the speech of others, which has been to their benefit. They didn't find that so objectionable.

Of course... I'm only talking about costigan.

We're all rational sensible people. We can see that this place is an open forum, as are any associated Discord channels. But there are definitely RULES. You can't post links to cheats. You can't encourage people to cheat. You can't dox people. You can't post uncensored porn directly to the messageboard. You can't tell someone they should kill themselves (a Discord authored platform rule), and You can't say egregiously racist shit. Other than that, no one gives a damn what you do.

So? What's the problem then? Is the problem that the admins have clear rules, or is the problem that the admins do no consult costigan for his approval each and every time they apply these rules?

I don't understand this "problem". This messageboard is pretty damn public. There are FAR more "random nobodies" and general public lurking in the tastyspleen discord than known community members. As far as I can tell, the problem is not that a public square does not exist - because it obviously does. I'm in it right now voicing my opinion. The problem is that costigan thinks beaver should be unbanned. And that's the great thing about this public square. You can come here and voice your opinion about wanting beaver unbanned. Tastyspleen values freedom of speech, and you are free to express that idea.

However... rules are fuckin' rules, he broke them a zillion times, and made it his mission in life to become a community problem rather than a community member. And the admins, just like everyone else on planet earth (well maybe not ALL of us), have lives and families and SHIT TO DO. They don't have time to have the same arguments with the same people for hours at a time every single day. It's the metaphor of the "noise to signal ratio" that Quadz used to talk about. Eventually, when it's just hours and hours of static and no signal... you have to turn the dial and move on.

Used to do some caving when I was a teen. The two I remember the most were the Lost Sea and Cumberland Caverns, both in Tennessee. I see videos on youtube and think about how much fun I had as a teen, but those were guided tours in tourist caves. These guys on youtube are pretty serious about it, going places where you need ropes, repelling gear, super-duper high power lamps, etc. I start thinking I'd like to do something like that... but then I see them swinging from ropes, climbing way up in these shafts where if they fall, they're gonna be hurt REALLY BAD. Nah. Think I'll just sit here watching the younger folks do it on Youtube.

Some really interesting videos I've seen lately...

A place to remember the good old days.

Like porn in the 1980's. Is that her boob? Is that her knee? It's whatever you want it to be!

poetry / essays / short stories? / Dr. Seuss
« on: July 23, 2023, 01:59:49 AM »
god vaevictis's stories couldn't make less sense if they were written by Dr. Suess.

it's like he lives in a different reality where he doesn't suck and doesn't throw 3 year old tantrums.   definitely not.

Hey now! Don't knock the Doc! Dr. Seuss is the shit! When tweedle beetles battle with their paddles on a poodle in a puddle, it's a tweedle beetle poodle puddle paddle battle.

Hehe, thought I had posted something about this around here before.

Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. One of my my favorite books when I was a kid... and still is today. The part about the Tweedle Beetles was my favorite.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S82jwZ0pD1k

Basically, there's this blue furry dog looking character (dunno really what he is, it's Dr. Seuss after all) named Mr Knox, and a crazy red fox wearing blue socks. The Fox tries to teach Mr. Knox tongue twisters. Mr. Knox sucks at it apparently. In the end, Mr Knox gets pissed off and shoves fox into the bottle with the Tweedle Beetles. Yeah, it's silly, that's why I love it. :D

Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss
-------------------------

Fox
Socks
Box
Knox

Knox in box.
Fox in socks.

Knox on fox in socks in box.

Socks on Knox and Knox in box.

Fox in socks on box on Knox.

Chicks with bricks come.
Chicks with blocks come.
Chicks with bricks and blocks and clocks come.

Look, sir.  Look, sir.  Mr. Knox, sir.
Let's do tricks with bricks and blocks, sir.
Let's do tricks with chicks and clocks, sir.

First, I'll make a quick trick brick stack.
Then I'll make a quick trick block stack.

You can make a quick trick chick stack.
You can make a quick trick clock stack.

And here's a new trick, Mr. Knox....
Socks on chicks and chicks on fox.
Fox on clocks on bricks and blocks.
Bricks and blocks on Knox on box.

Now we come to ticks and tocks, sir.
Try to say this Mr. Knox, sir....

Clocks on fox tick.
Clocks on Knox tock.
Six sick bricks tick.
Six sick chicks tock.

Please, sir.  I don't like this trick, sir.
My tongue isn't quick or slick, sir.
I get all those ticks and clocks, sir,
mixed up with the chicks and tocks, sir.
I can't do it, Mr. Fox, sir.

I'm so sorry, Mr. Knox, sir.

Here's an easy game to play.
Here's an easy thing to say....

New socks.
Two socks.
Whose socks?
Sue's socks.

Who sews whose socks?
Sue sews Sue's socks.

Who sees who sew whose new socks, sir?
You see Sue sew Sue's new socks, sir.

That's not easy, Mr. Fox, sir.

Who comes? ...
Crow comes.
Slow Joe Crow comes.

Who sews crow's clothes?
Sue sews crow's clothes.
Slow Joe Crow sews whose clothes?
Sue's clothes.

Sue sews socks of fox in socks now.

Slow Joe Crow sews Knox in box now.

Sue sews rose on Slow Joe Crow's clothes.
Fox sews hose on Slow Joe Crow's nose.

Hose goes.
Rose grows.
Nose hose goes some.
Crow's rose grows some.

Mr. Fox!
I hate this game, sir.
This game makes my tongue quite lame, sir.

Mr. Knox, sir, what a shame, sir.

We'll find something new to do now.
Here is lots of new blue goo now.
New goo.  Blue goo.
Gooey.  Gooey.
Blue goo.  New goo.
Gluey. Gluey.

Gooey goo for chewy chewing!
That's what that Goo-Goose is doing.
Do you choose to chew goo, too, sir?
If, sir, you, sir, choose to chew, sir,
with the Goo-Goose, chew, sir.
Do, sir.

Mr. Fox, sir,
I won't do it.
I can't say.
I won't chew it.

Very well, sir.
Step this way.
We'll find another game to play.

Bim comes.
Ben comes.
Bim brings Ben broom.
Ben brings Bim broom.

Ben bends Bim's broom.
Bim bends Ben's broom.
Bim's bends.
Ben's bends.
Ben's bent broom breaks.
Bim's bent broom breaks.

Ben's band.  Bim's band.
Big bands.  Pig bands.

Bim and Ben lead bands with brooms.
Ben's band bangs and Bim's band booms.

Pig band!  Boom band!
Big band!  Broom band!
My poor mouth can't say that.  No, sir.
My poor mouth is much too slow, sir.

Well then... bring your mouth this way.
I'll find it something it can say.

Luke Luck likes lakes.
Luke's duck likes lakes.
Luke Luck licks lakes.
Luck's duck licks lakes.

Duck takes licks in lakes Luke Luck likes.
Luke Luck takes licks in lakes duck likes.

I can't blab such blibber blubber!
My tongue isn't make of rubber.

Mr. Knox.  Now come now.  Come now.
You don't have to be so dumb now....

Try to say this, Mr. Knox, please....

Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew.
While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew.
Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze.
Freezy trees made these trees' cheese freeze.
That's what made these three free fleas sneeze.

Stop it!  Stop it!
That's enough, sir.
I can't say such silly stuff, sir.

Very well, then, Mr. Knox, sir.

Let's have a little talk about tweetle beetles....

What do you know about tweetle beetles?  Well...

When tweetle beetles fight,
it's called a tweetle beetle battle.

And when they battle in a puddle,
it's a tweetle beetle puddle battle.

AND when tweetle beetles battle with paddles in a puddle,
they call it a tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle.

AND...

When beetles battle beetles in a puddle paddle battle
and the beetle battle puddle is a puddle in a bottle...
...they call this a tweetle beetle bottle puddle paddle battle muddle.

AND...

When beetles fight these battles in a bottle with their paddles
and the bottle's on a poodle and the poodle's eating noodles...
...they call this a muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodle
bottle paddle battle.

AND...

Now wait a minute, Mr. Socks Fox!

When a fox is in the bottle where the tweetle beetles battle
with their paddles in a puddle on a noodle-eating poodle,
THIS is what they call...

...a tweetle beetle noodle poodle bottled paddled
muddled duddled fuddled wuddled fox in socks, sir!

Fox in socks, our game is done, sir.
Thank you for a lot of fun, sir.

In the tradition of old favorite threads like "IRC - Moments in time" and "funny shit you saw in TS-Live" (alas, IRC is no more :( )

Random shit from ChatGPT bot that strikes you as funny/interesting/etc...

The first question was something random. After I got the answer, I googled it and wiki said he actually had FOUR kids. So I ask again...
"You know he's got 4 kids?"
"Oh yeah yeah, sure! 4! Totally!"

 :erhmmm:

Methinks chatgpt might be a woman. (It's never wrong.) :dohdohdoh:

David Crosby, Folk-Rock Voice of the 1960s Whose Influence Spanned Decades, Dies at 81
He was an original member of the Byrds and a founder of Crosby, Stills & Nash. But he was almost as well known for his troubled personal life as for his music.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/11/entertainment/jeff-beck-death/index.html

Jeff Beck, dead at 78. Wikipedia is listing bacterial meningitis as the cause of death, but perhaps that is not official at this point as there is no formal section on the page about his death yet.

One of the most insanely talented guitar players on planet earth. This guy used a combination tremolo arm + volume control and picking technique to basically turn a stratocaster into what sounded like a completely different instrument. To my knowledge, not a single other person on the planet could ever replicate his style and sound. One of the all time greats.

Love this live performance he did of one of his best songs with Tal Wilkenfeld on bass.

Yeeeees! It's here! Finally, a reason to use your TV again for something other than being spoonfed wrong-headed opinionations from blatantly biased news sources. We can once again bask in the EnergyStar compliant energy-efficient warm glow of the light emitting diodes,... or perhaps the organic light emitting diodes of a fancy-ass Vizio OLED tv if you're one of those rich bitches.

Odds that Notre Dame will FINALLY beat Ohio State today. Anyone? I'm saying, oh... 500 to 1. By all means Notre Dame, prove me wrong and give me a reason to not believe you've been over-valued by all the polls.

One of my favorite actors. The first black oscar winner for Best Actor. He did the "Mr. Tibbs trilogy" before trilogies were even a thing, which are 3 of my favorite movies. I highly recommend them...

In The Heat of the Night (1967) - An excellent movie, perhaps one of the greatest films of all time.

They Call Me Mister Tibbs (1970)

The Organization (1971)

What are you thankful for? What did you eat? What did someone make that you REFUSE to eat? :D Talk about the Lions likely losing, as is the religious tradition in America. Make fun of the Dallas Cowboys. Talk about the crap you're gonna buy people during the black friday and cyber monday or whatever-the-hell-else-sales. Bitch about politics. Whine about gas prices. Recount the inappropriate racist jokes your relatives told at the dinner table. Or just post dumb Thanksgiving memes. Like this:

coop / New Co-op/Single Player models
« on: July 22, 2021, 12:22:03 AM »
In past paks that I made, I took some of the stock game models and re-did the texture mapping and textures to make them look a little more detailed.

For example:

I've decided to try re-doing a bunch of other models as well. It's probably a ways off before I actually release/post any new models or a new pak, but I thought others might be interested in seeing some of it in progress. It's still early into this and I haven't gotten far at all. Currently I'm working on the "Key" models. I've done the Data CD key, which was really simple and quick. Now I'm almost finished with the Blue Key which I've been puttering around with for the last 2 or 3 nights. I've decided this model is simple enough that I probably won't have to remap the texture to get a good result. I used a screenshot from Npherno's Skin Tool get an enlarged version of the original texture along with a bright green wireframe representation of the mapping to use as a template. So if you notice lime green lines on it, those will NOT appear in the finished version, it's just there temporarily as a guide.

I haven't don't the shading and highlighting of the sides yet either, but most of the details are done.

And the new Data CD.
