Pleasantly substantive political conversation between a sitting conservative senator, and someone nominally "on the other side of the aisle".

How much healthier might our democracy be (that is: democratic constitutional republic) if such conversations were anything like the norm, instead of utter rarities?

Some interesting territory covered.

A couple clarifications on terms used:

1. the "EGO" Eric refers to (which I anticipate he intended to explain but got sidetracked) is his notion of an "Embedded Growth Obligation" that became part of institutional culture during the post-WWII economic boom. Technology fueled, hugely expanding middle class, similarly-expanding percentage of citizens attending university; the expectation of continued exponential growth to fund all the pension plans, and which meant that a professor could have 20 PhD students, and they'd all go on to be professors each with 20 PhD students of their own…; etc. — And, after that extraordinary period of exponential growth hit a saturation point and slowed in the 1970s, the lies and shenanigans ratcheted up as institutions structured around the expectation that growth would continue, kept up that facade while engaging in machinations that produced the appearance of growth while really just siphoning or transferring wealth from one part of the system to another.

2. "rent-seeking" — Not literally charging rent, but rather an economic term describing siphoning wealth without creating value; "an individual or an entity seeks to increase their own wealth without creating any benefits or wealth to the society".

Community Events / PRE-CUP TS500!
Rock On Rock On
on August 06, 2020, 11:49:45 AM to Jehar

Wow, these are really speeding up, aren't they? :D

What's speeding towards us is Quakecon 2020, which is remaining indoors this year with a massive amount of community events flying the banner of QCON@HOME. Our part will be 3 TastyCups across Doom 2, Quakeworld, and Quake II. Details and signups for all these cups can be found here:

Special thanks to Sooint for his pre-tourney donation, bringing the current Q2 prize pool to 200 USD.

On top of that, we'll be running a TS500 before the cup on Sunday in order to get everyone's hyperblasters greased up. No signups here, just get on the ts500 server at the appointed time, and play until your eyes, fingers, or spleens bleed!

The map this time around: city64!
