I've been pleased to see that many of the TS players(in the tournaments) are still using the real game.... with very few enhancements.
(this next part is not aimed at Everkill, but just an observation...)
If there comes a time I have to use bright skins, white textures, modified pakfiles, timers, clients that modify fps caps, etc..., I will stop playing because the game is gone.  I'm interested in having fun everytime I play, not frags and my position on the scorescreen.

while youre at it, dont kill people who are typing, lagging, without a gun (or how bout with out a decent gun), and the disabled, also dont kill newbs, i can fill you in on many more ways to do the opposite of playing to win if it pleases you to play for fun, also known as losing
please youre only advocating a scrub mentality on a more competitive level, you got past the simple mental blocks that over comes to so many tasty spleen newbs, why are you going to get caught up by some enhancements that do not take that much away from the game anyway

OH NO instead of a semi camoflauged athena skin all i see is a bright white skin WHAT A CHEAT, bull shit, i dont think q2 is about blending in with the background, using a bright white skin is jus as bad as people using female/athena to get the advantage of the hard to see skin,and since when has timing items become the back bone of q2? youre making mountains of mounds, for the most part map control, movement, aiming, deducing enemy location ARE STILL THERE, a timer merely increases the accuracy with which you can take specific items, and imo it has improved my own sense of timing, alot of games ill get lazy and stop using my timers (you have to take into account it requires some skill to time accurately as well) and when i do i still manage to hit the items with a similar accuracy, because i have an improved sense of that amount of time due to hearing that timer so often

bottom line is timing items is NOT that big of a deal, nor is deleting your players folder so you dont have to look at some bull shit skins that are dark, the focus of tdm is not in timing items properly, it does give a good advantage, but assuming everyone began using timers it would not break the game, q2 is filled with all types of strategy skills and techniques, the need to use a sense of timing or to see athenas olive ass against the edges background is a very minimal aspect

yeah i agree. i mean, i been timing items myself depending on the mod used. now, the only diff is i dont have to do the math in my head in the middle of a game. not a huge diff really. and bright skins cant be argued. some peoples monitors/vid cards make it really hard to see certain skins. too me its more cheating by using a skin that is hard to than it is using one thats easy to see.  but when it comes down to it, timers really dont make a diff. at least the ones in q2a. they dont give u a description of each item. it wont tell u if its RA or YA for example. it only times armor and powerups as well. the only paks or anything i have is q2a, and bright skins. thats it. and thats only been recently, i used out of the box quake for over 7 years.

Since when is playing for fun mean losing???? I play for fun (drop ammo for people, dont shoot people w/ out a gun, flip people off, wave to people, take some time out to try a few jumps.  Still, i find that i WIN every now and then while having FUN.  Do i know what im talking aboot? Maybe not!  Do i have to get back to work? Maybe so!

well jq i didnt mean that, i was making that rhetorical statement, because people seem to have this notion that you cant have fun and play to win at the same time, so i used the inverse of the excuse that i cant play to win cause im trying to have fun, also known as losing because people who usually make up excuses for losing are losers

I'm actually going to have to agree with Banes on this one.  At least as far as timers go, and his argument about pak files.  Never his unkind way of putting things!!! 

You know... I was trying out a ton of pak files today looking for a HUD that I could cut and paste into Q2.  All of them were different.  Some had really heavy footsteps (your own steps start hurting your ears, so you turn the volume down, cancelling the benefit), distinctive armor sounds, no chat beep, bright skins, bright weapons, bright guns, crazy noises all around you.  Playing FFA was suddenly like playing a different game full of pandemonium. 

The paks look like they took a lot of time to make, and I doubt they're even worth the effort in terms of increased gaming ability.  Respectable players made these (purri, sean, well... scratch that last one... )  Purri still won qcon without it (I don't think they were allowed to use modified paks, correct me if I'm wrong). 

I think it's just fun to customize the game to your preference.  I have a zoom.  I'm currently trying to find a HUD that states what other weapons I have so my weapon dropping will be more efficient - it'll also help to know what weapon to switch to if I forget what I picked up.  Definitely an advantage.  Definitely gonna take some work to do.  Definitely gonna let everyone know how to do it if I (we, actually - there's a few of us hunting for this thing) figure it out.  I think most people in the team dm community are looking forward to having something like this.

If we all have equal access to the information then what's the harm?  I am always playing to win, but in losing I can enjoy that I did my part and passed information along and timed items correctly (even if I couldn't pick them up) and played a strategic, well thought-out game. 

For me these things increase the strategy and intensity of a game, and I fully expect and desire that my opponents have access to them as well.  It's a lot more fun that way!  Winning or losing

i totally agree with you crazed, sometimes i wish i could have as much tact in putting together my arguments, but unfortunately that wouldnt be me

and let me know if you find that hud with all the weapons displayed, i have a hard time remembering all the weapons ive picked up which prevents me from dropping good weapons i forgot i had, i wish the inventory key worked for osp
