How reasonable do you find it to say that "God" was "just there"?  How is that any different than the singularity being "just there"??????

i believe it's likely there is a god, i don't base this on cosmic background radiation.

i guess the question would be: how and why is the singularity always there?

No, what I mean is such an answer solves nothing. 

i'm good with that.  however i don't see another explanation that answers my original question.

bottom line: we have to accept what we see, no matter how improbable my birthdate/location was, it did indeed happen. and yes, in a sense by accident (i had no control over being born in Cairo, Egypt - Africa April 2nd, 992 BC).

you could put it on a graph, and universes that can't sustain life would be more likely to form.

how is your birthday location improbable - in what relation is it improbable.  you are nearly as likely to be born in new york as you are china.  in any event, i don't see your birthday being as improbable as the universe forming to sustain life.  the order of magnitude is relevant when you talk about things happening by chance.  also i would think different based on what happened as a result of chance.

i think you're finally seeing my point, we just need to put it into practice and apply it now. if indeed the universe's beginning had no set direction of where it's going during the big bang and it was in a sense 'random', then no one possible outcome is less likely than another. therefore it was not "very very unlikely". if indeed you think it was, then you cannot refute the argument i just put forth on the whole birthday analogy.

i agree with that.  but i haven't been saying this universe was more or less likely to form than another.

we are not here for a purpose. we are here by chance. the meaning of life is whatever you want to think it is because there is no set meaning.

The Universe didn't always exist--it had to be created by something!  It was created by God.  God didn't always exist--it too had to be created by something!  And... (drum roll...) I have the answer!!!

My Flying Spaghetti Monster created your God.  See now neatly that wraps everything up?  There can't possibly be any more unanswered questions.  (You're not going to ask who created my Flying Spaghetti Monster are you?)god could of always existed, and everything has to have a cause but god.  you don't infer

..except that we can observe the visible effects of (not-so-naked) singularities.
We literally cannot "see" a black hole in space, but we know they are there because we can make observations of the surrounding space and see all of the shit getting sucked into the invisible hole.
We also know that they are created at one point in their existence. We've recorded the many stages of this process through astronomy during years of looking at stars and their radiation.

Unfortunately, we can't point to a specific observation of the universe and reasonably contribute it solely to God existing,
unless of course, he has lots of gravity, is infinitely dense, and floats around in space attracting light and all other things that can be effected by gravitational force.

we know things about this universe. since i reason we don't know as much about god (and his workings), it is possible things for god act quite different.  since it's very reasonable to assume things would act different for god, why would you assume he needs a cause
