i'm not a religious person, i dont go to church. i'm not an athiest i do believe there is a god because the world cannot have been created from specs of space dust and form in to this amassed existence we call earth.  if anyone says we are modified spawns of aliens i dont belive that either because we have no real evidence of aliens except for a few movie clips the movie fire i nthe sky and a 1950's snuff film of the  area 51 crap.  i can't stand fanatics that limit themselves solely o nthe assumption of a crusty old anceint book that speaks in riddles and has been modified by people of our time and past time to suit their own ideological needs. the bible is not 100 percent pure fro mthe time it was writte nthats a guarantee so believing everything that lies therein is foolishness. sure there may be some stories that pertain to modern culture but you would have to pick and choose but either way it will cause some controvery against people who think differently. so i guess the only thing to say is to follow the rule what goes around comes around and hopefully you'll be standing at whites gates or just maybe you'll be breaking a sweat with richard simmons evil twin i nthe hell's pit.  and before anyone says anything about me believing in heaven or hell  my answer is i dont know if it exists i just assume it might.

i completely agree, dust cannot form earth. luckily, there is a more accurate (yet still atheistic) explanation.

well for one we don't have all the "evidence"  these are just thiories.  nobody existed a million years a go that can" verify" these things. so of course nobody can tell you either way if it was a big bang or god created humanity. although like i said im not religious but the god theory sounds more comfortable with me than some big bang. nobody know's the full truth of the world and we will never know until the wrold ends where hopefully we wil find out the when and why. for the origins of existance is out of our understanding and to say that we have the answer is to say how pompous man is to think that we have or can get all the answers in this lifetime regardless of technological advance. thats just my opinion and i assume a large majority agree.

ok here's my opinion.

God exists, and God created everything that exists as both humanly tangible and intangible entities today. this been said, i believe this is man's world, not God's.  This world would not be so fucked up if God was regulating everything that occurs.  We have freedom of thought, and therefore choice in our actions.  If you are kind to others, and a good person, I believe good things will eventually come your way.  the ten commandments, to me, is not a set of rules one must follow (especially not something you must do, otherwise your ass is going to hell (ignorant statement)). it is a recipe by which its followers will undoubtedly find happiness and/or success within their lives, in one way or another.  Athiests, to me, have no arguments that hold any water whatsoever.  this does not at all sum up my beliefs, but lets hear it, what does everyone else have to say?

Heh, well, you're straining the limits of my infinitesimal knowledge of cosmology and astrophysics, but...

I suspect the current situation is, that based on our knowledge of fundamental particles, we can predict how planets *should* form, and what we are seeing through telescopes is confirming these predictions.

I suspect the current situation is, that based on our knowledge of fundamental particles, we can predict how planets *should* form, and what we are seeing through telescopes is confirming these predictions.  I don't have time to do the research now to confirm that, but I am willing to bet that is the current state of affairs.

this was the post i was responding to.  there is no explanation with evidence (in my opinion) as to how and why the big bang started. that is a fundamental gap in any current  scientific explanation as to why & how the earth was formed.  i guess some people look at that gap and say, well i think things happened because of this, and this way.  to me this is like religion; however it's stranger than religion to me, because it implies shit just happened without thinking behind things.
