They weren't post season eligible for 3 years straight as different levels of the "academic scandal" came to light. They are this year, but still feeling ncaa restrictions on the amount of scholarshipped players they have and were allowed the past few years. It's hilarious that's nc is in the conversation, but they are. If they win a few more I'll dig up my old post months ago about them making the playoffs

And I agree with Sgt. Dick's play-off predictions.. it's clear in the ACC and SEC

ACC 1. Clemson 2. UNC
SEC 1. Alabama 2. Florida

Those 4 are the only teams with a chance. The PAC doesn't have a chance, although I guess if the big 12 and big 10 truly implode and all beat each other, and if stanford beats notre dame, then stanford has a long shot.

Big 12 Okie state, Oklahoma, TCU, Baylor all have a chance

Big 10 Ohio state, Michigan state, Michigan, and Iowa. You can basically not even count the last 2.

Then there's notre dame.

So I guess 13 teams are left in the play-off run.. it'll probably be 9-10 by next week.

I didn't count stanford, houston, or wisconsin even though technically they're not out of the question.

...but the committee also has a habit of allowing performance over the past several years to influence their ranking. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame have done pretty well over the past few years, and it seems obvious to me that they are letting that be a big factor in who they select. I don't disagree as much with Clemson, Alabama, or Ohio State being in the running, but putting Notre Dame in there above Stanford was just REE-TAR-TID.

And I think they'll continue to use that mentality. And I hate to be negative and rain on your party, but I think even if North Carolina managed to upset Clemson in the ACC Championship, they still wouldn't make the cut, because the committee is just that personally opposed to seeing North Carolina in the playoffs.

And if that happens, I cannot fucking wait to hear what kind of bullshit fucking excuses they have. Because traditionally, the #1 ACC team always goes to the Orange Bowl, which is gonna be one of the 2 playoff games this year. An Orange Bowl with no ACC!?! No no, lemme sit down and get comfortable before someone gives me a total mind bending explanation of that one. Cuz if I'm standing, I'm liable to fall over laughing and hit my head on something.

Nah you're not raining on my parade because I agree completely. The right teams are losing though to combat even the biased discretion of the stupid fucking committee which will have to continue. They needed Oregon to beat stanford, and if stanford beats notre dame then there just needs to be chaos in either the big 12 or big 10(already has started in the big 12). Then there's always this: like Sarge said, would the committee view NC's ability to beat clemson over notre dame's? They should, but, the question is more like.. What's greater?: They're hate for UNC/ACC coastal/over-all not wanting nc in the play-offs, or their love for notre dame? I'd lean on the first unfortunately, and that's why NC has to shut out va tech and nc state.

I think if 2 out of 3 of those situations happen (chaos in big 12, big 10, and stanford>notre dame), and UNC dominates va tech and nc state like they have other teams recently including clemson in a championship game then they have a legitimate shot. But, in the long run when the rankings come out, they'll have NC at like 19th or some stupid shit tonight. The chair will give his usual shady logic that he applied to alabama, oklahoma, ohio state, big 10 teams that blow/have played no one or they have a good qb but still suck, and notre dame but no one else.

Also, I'm selling my tickets to UNC/ncstate that I said I had at the beginning of the season. My wife is due less than 2 weeks after the game so... Yeah. At least i'll have 2.5 months off from work starting in a few days.

OH YEAH, another thing. The odds hate North carolina. Everyone fucking hates NC. Vegas hates nc. The spread hates nc. So make money off of it. I put $200 on UNC covering the spread against miami(13 points I think?) and parlayed it with it being a high scoring game (over 66). I won 512$, 712 with my money back. The spread is 7.5 against va tech, it's in blacksburgh and it's frank beamer's last home game before retirement. I don't give a fuck. I'm putting $500 on it this time, covering spread and i'll pick an over or under, not sure because I haven't seen it yet. Probably over because they'll hype va tech and bud foster's defense at their last home game blah blah blah and give me a nice number to pick over. NC is going to mop the floor with the hokies. I started out with $250 this season in my sports betting balance, I now have 1607. I'm putting 1k away for diapers then going all in on UNC, EVERY GAME, for the rest of the year.

But really, I could be wrong. So don't take my advice. But I'm dropping $500 on it.

Eeeeeeeeeh, you might get "Rousey'd", haha.

In another couple of years, people are gonna see this post and wonder what the fuck "Rousey'd" means. Basically, Rousey was the 14 to 1 favorite over Holly Holm in UFC 193 and then THIS happened. People who dumped huge amounts of money on Rousey to win, thinking she would be a sure thing, got taken to the motherfucking cleaners.

All of sports media are projecting NC to be 12th in the play-off rankings, just like the AP and coaches poll. I really, really doubt this. Just because literally everyone else is coming around and seeing how well nc is playing doesn't mean the committee will. We'll see in 30 minutes on ESPN.

A big  at the handful of teams they put before unc and TCU (2 loss teams + the qb from navy they like to pretend is a heisman candidate)... It's hilarious. I'm putting everything on nc covering the spread against va tech(6.5 now, joke).

I can't believe that they put UNC ahead of a undefeated Houston 

UNC is not getting the respect they should be getting.  I see the UNC loss to SC a lot like the ALA loss to Ole Miss.

UNC turned the ball over 3 times in the SC redzone (2 in the SC endzone) and lost 17-13.  If UNC scores 1 TD or kicks 2 FG's out of those possessions, they win the game.

ALA turned the ball over 5 times against Ole Miss, 3 of those turnovers gave Ole Miss a short field and they scored TD's.
Even with those turnovers, it still took a fluke play TD for Ole Miss to pull out the 43-37 win.

Both ALA and UNC are 9-1 but ALA is ranked #2 and UNC is #17.  Do I think ALA should be ranked higher than UNC (Yes), but UNC should be a lot closer than #17.

Random, but I just thought of something I feel is exploited by the committee(among several other stupid things they do). Notre Dame, like other teams are said to have a very strong SOS(strength of schedule). But, since they haven't played stanford yet, should stanford count towards their SOS value yet? It does and it definitely contributed to their ranking. Also, shouldn't SOS really matter if you WIN tough games?? The lion share of notre dame's SOS value comes from LOSING to clemson, who is the main contributor, and secondly stanford whom they have not played....

So I'm going to compare North Carolina and Florida State. First are their similar opponents:

Miami (FSU won 29-24, UNC won 59-21)
Georgia Tech (FSU lost 16-22, UNC won 38-31)
Wake Forest ( FSU won 24-16, UNC won 50-14)
NC State (FSU won 37-14, UNC plays them in 2 weeks)

FSU's other opponents: Texas State, Southern Florida, Louisville, Syracuse, Clemson, Boston College, Chattanooga, Florida

UNC's other opponents: Pittsburgh, Duke, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Delaware, South Carolina, NC AT, Illinois

FSU is considered to have a way tougher schedule for LOSING to clemson, and for simply having the gators on their schedule but not playing them yet despite UNC beating similar opponents by greater margin not to mention FSU lost to ga tech.

It's just kind of funny how much they emphasis SOS and even put a value on it as if they're objectifying the matter when really it's not objective nor accurate at all.
