Will the Braves make the playoffs this year.  They are 4 games behind Washington in the NL East and 1.5 games behind SF in the wildcard.

If Washington sticks to their word about limiting the innings for Strasburg they need to have him skip some starts or shut him down completely late in the season.
I think with a 4 game lead, they should have him skip a start now.  I think if it is tight down the stretch he will be pitching every time he is due.

At this point I don't see Atlanta making it, but I don't get to see them that much.  I figure Foc can give me the low down.

Well I ain't really had much time to sit on my ass and watch games lately, not that I've really wanted to. Seems like whenever I start watching and they start playing well, I get all excited, and then that's when they decide to quit getting any runs. I figure me watching them is bad luck for them or something. I started off the year being pretty interested in them, and they started off the season great, I started to get hopeful that they'd continue to kick ass all year long... and then they lose a few people to injuries and the hitting goes into a crappy slump. They started the season off great and gained a nice lead, something like 8 or 10 games ahead of 2nd in the NL east division, and then they pissed it away in a matter of 2 weeks. I guess they were 4 games behind Washington in June when you wrote that, and according to what I saw watching part of a game the other day, they were still about 4.5 games behind the Nationals. I still haven't gotten to go see a game a Turner Field this year yet. I'm hoping to be able to see at least one and see Chipper Jones play one last time before he retires. It's a longshot, but I'm also hoping I can catch him by the dugout a few hours before the game. I was looking through my old baseball cards I collected as a kid and I've got a Chipper Jones rookie card in pretty decent shape that I'd love to have him autograph so I can frame it and display it in my man cave. ;D

If the Braves have any chance of catching the Nationals and winning the division, they need to come up big in the series with the Nationals that started today.  Right now they are losing 4-2.  :raincloud:

Statistically speaking, there's a greater chance of Quadz getting a swastika tattooed on his forehead than the Braves winning a pennant.

I think at some point during this homestand against Washington they were supposed to do some kinda big Chipper Jones tribute thing, and I was kinda wanting to get tickets to go see the old man play one last time in person, but I think I'll wait until whenever they play some more home games next month against ANYBODY BUT the Nats. Seems like they have some kinda stupid fuckin gypsy curse on them whenever it comes time to play Washington lately. They'll start doing fairly well, then the Nats come up on the schedule, and they can't string any hits together enough to get any runs to save their fucking lives. Don't want my last game seeing Chipper play to be a pathetic ass-whooping of a loss.

This seasons been pretty crazy for Atlanta anyway. They've traded out the shortstop position like crazy, as well as the pitching bullpen. Sending people down, bringing people up, trading people. Shit, unless I'm mistaken, the only starting pitchers they still have on the roster now who were pitchers last year are Brandon Beachy and the old vet Tim Hudson. Of course they still have their closer Craig Kimbrel, and he's pretty good, the dudes got a wicked 4-seam fastball (sometimes 99mph or better if he really lets loose) as well as decent speedy slider (around 94mph), but he's still got occasional nights when he just can't locate his shit where he needs it and the batters rape him out of a save.

Recently Atlanta had a Chipper bobble head night and Chipper had one of his best games of the season (2 Homeruns)

I think Atlanta can give up on the division title and just hope for a wildcard slot.

I haven't checked the standings in a month or so, nor have I watched many games lately, but I'm gonna assume that unless God himself comes down and puts on a Braves uniform, they don't have a chance of making the playoffs, much less making it to the World Series, and even less than that of actually winning the World Series.

I don't think they will get to far, but it is nice to see them rebound from the total collapse they had last year.

I haven't watched a Braves game in months, but I had heard that they were back in the hunt for the wildcard berth. Seems like every time I start watching games, they start losing, and when I stop watching, they start doing well again. So maybe Quadz will be getting that swastika tattooed on his forehead afterall. Just hit me up Dr. Q, I can recommend a few decent ink slingers. :D

BULLSHIT!

Infield fly? INFIELD FLY!?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!?!?! That is the biggest blown bullshit call I've ever seen in my fucking life, and I've seen some pretty bad fucking calls, but that one takes the fucking bullshit cake along with the bullshit platter it's served on as well as the bullshit table that the bullshit platter is sitting on with the bullshit cake on it. Just BULLSHIT! It's called the "infield fly rule" when the ball is popped up... IN THE FUCKING INFIELD!!! That shit was popped up in the dead center of left field, nowhere NEAR the infield. None of the umpires pointed up to indicate that the infield fly rule was in effect until the ball hit the ground, and even when it DID hit the ground, only ONE of the umpires was signalling for it. They had a chance to have the bases loaded with only one out possibly get a sac fly to drive in 2 to make it a 6-5 game with one out left, but the umps made sure they fucked up the entire game!

Fucking bullshit.

After that, I had a pretty good feeling that Chipper Jones would be at bat in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs already, and of course... YES. I figured he'd end up grounding straight to the second baseman for a groundout... like ALWAYS. But alas, the final at bat of his career was actually a base hit when the first baseman slipped off the bag. Which actually helped set Atlanta up to possibly tie it up and send it to extra innings if Dan Uggla could've come up with a homer. But nope. Wasn't gonna happen. Thrown out at first.

But who the hell even knows what could've been if the umps didn't decide to wreck the fucking game with the worst bullshit call ever. The guys calling the game on the TV were talking about how shameful it was that Atlanta fans were tossing trash on the field after that bad call, and maybe it was a little uncivilized, but come the fuck on! A call like THAT!?! Fuck it, it's bottle tossing time, assholes.

When the fuck is MLB gonna move into the 21st century and start using instant replay to prevent blown calls? This shit has happened far too many times. No wonder game attendance is down across the entire MLB while NFL attendance keeps going UP. Because the NFL has fair games with instant replay, and they don't piss their ticket purchasing fans off with things like complete bullshit calls... notwithstanding the whole replacement ref and Green Bay Packers thing. And you see what happened after that, they finally get the PRO refs back after that debacle.

Might've stayed at the bar to watch the Texas and Baltimore game, but I was just too fucking disgusted and pissed off to watch anymore baseball tonight.

I hope Baltimore wins. Nothing against Texas, but it's nice to see the Orioles in postseason play for the first time in a long time. I think the last time they made it to postseason play was 1996 or 1997.
