Yep. If there's one thing sports teams in Georgia are good at, it's getting your hopes up and then blowing it.

And if there's another thing Atlanta Braves are good at, it's tearing down perfectly good stadiums.

MOTHER... FUCK... THE GOD DAMN... BRAVES.

What the fuck ever happened to giving a shit about history and the historical value of things and the pride that goes along with it? You think the Red Sox would ever dream of tearing down Fenway Park? HELL NO! That stadiums been there for over 100 years. They have tons of history there. They have pride in that history.

The old Fulton County stadium where Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record is long gone. They tore it down after the 1996 Olympics. Now they wanna tear down Turner Field and move the Braves out of Atlanta and up to Smyrna. That fuckin' place has only been there for like 15 years!!! Are you shitting me!?! Most people take out 30 yr mortgages and can manage to keep their house habitable in that time. These fuckin' pricks stay somewhere 15 years and can't manage to take care of it any better than that? They talk about how much money "upgrades" and renovations cost, and somehow convince people that it would be cheaper to buy new land and build a whole new place. I don't know who is believing this bullshit, but I know for a fact how expensive a project like that would be, and sorry, RENOVATIONS ARE CHEAPER, PERIOD. Someone is full of shit.

This kinda shit is the reason why the local economy is still struggling. These assholes are so short-sighted, greedy, stupid and careless about every last thing they do.

I love the city, HATE the fuckin' people who run it.

I saw that story and  :ohlord:

After they tore down Fulton County Stadium and built Turner Field they lost a lot of MLB history.  They did mark where Hank Aaron's record breaking home run landed (out in the parking lot)  :raincloud:
Once they move to a new stadium in 2017 what little bit of history remains will soon be gone.  Maybe they will build a strip mall over the site of his record breaking home run. :grrrr:

Yeah, they still have part of the outfield foundation wall of the old Fulton County Stadium standing in what is now the main parking lot for Turner Field, along with the original outfield wall that Hank Aaron's homerun went over. But also Turner Field was where the 1996 Olympic ceremonies took place. Muhammad Ali who had Parkinsons and could barely fucking walk ran the Olympic flame into the stadium and lit the main torch. Maybe I'm being a sappy sentimental sucker, but that kinda shit MEANS something to me. How many times does the Olympic games ever come to Atlanta? ONCE. Probably one of the greatest moments in the cities history. And we're gonna dynamite the shit because it ain't brand new and shiny? :raincloud:

Report says McCann going to the Yankees for a 5yr, 85 Mil contract.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/10026267/brian-mccann-agrees-five-year-85-million-deal-new-york-yankees

This is just one more to add to the many reasons I hate the Yankees.  :grrrr:

Yep. Baseball ain't like the other sports. Instant replay? Maybe in another 10 or 20 years. Any resemblance of fair recruiting and contracting practices like the NFL has? Nope. He who has the most money lands all the best players. Can't be mad at McCann. I mean when someone offers you more money, you take it. There's no guarantee you'll have a long career. Shit happens, people get injured and forced to retire.

It doesn't matter much as far as Atlanta's chances for winning titles and World Series. Last season, I don't think he made All-Star. So New York might be paying for something that ain't worth the price tag. Sure he's a great catcher, but his batting stats took a drop this past year as far as I know.

Yea, his best years might be behind him now.  I like McCann and I'm glad to see him get a big payday.

I hope his contract is guaranteed so he will get his money no matter how good he plays.
If his contract is guaranteed, I hope he goes there and his play drops to a low level.
I would love to see the Yankees pay the big bucks and still not win.

The Yankees are once again trying to buy themselves a championship.  :raincloud:
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/10331816/masahiro-tanaka-new-york-yankees-agree-seven-year-155-million-deal

"We're going to do what we've got to do to win," Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

I hope this guy looks great for the first couple of games and gets the Yankees organization all giddy and then is lost for the year due to shoulder surgery.

Think I read something recently about MLB FINALLY pulling their heads out of their asses and utilizing video instant replay, although it's use is gonna be pretty limited. I didn't spend much time reading it really, but from what I gathered, umpires were NOT gonna be using it themselves on an as-needed basis to make sure plays were called correctly, but rather teams managers would have only one opportunity per game to challenge any call using instant replay to review it. It ain't "right", but at least it's a step in the right direction.

I don't see any reason at all NOT to utilize instant replay in baseball. You could make the argument that baseball is a game steeped in over 100 years of tradition and to preserve that tradition, modern modifications to protocol should be shunned... but then again... Ty Cobb never injected HGH into his butt cheeks to be able to steal more bases or hit more pitches like most of these assholes are doing today. So if anyone really gave a shit about "tradition", you'd still see fat guys pitching like Terry Forster.

I think part of the reason why instant replay has taken so long to institute and why teams don't have salary caps and restrictions is due to how the fan base has shrunk over the past 20 years. While a few teams like the Marlins have been suffering immensely, the rest are actually seeing slightly larger turnouts than in years passed. But they still aren't making the kind of money league-wide that the NFL does. And if I had to guess what that means... it translates to the owners not caring as much about fan feedback because they have no real incentive to do so.

Braves sign Freeman and Heyward to new deals.  Freeman got a 8 year deal, Heyward got a 2 year deal.  Atlanta still needs to sign Kimbrel, but I'm sure they are working on it.

Freddy Freeman, you damn right they better hold onto. He's been an excellent 1st baseman and a real power hitter, might have the best batting average on the team, I dunno. Heyward... maybe his batting ain't spectacular, but he plays outfield really well. Craig Kimbrell... I'd say they'd be insane for not signing him on since he's got one of the best straight up fastballs (99mph or better) for any closer currently in MLB, but they've had some really bad luck with pitchers the last several years. They'll bring someone up, they'll start doing great for half a season or more, and then for some reason they lose all their control and confidence and they get sent back down to the minors for rehab and more intense hands-on training that they just don't have time for in the majors. And usually once they take a step back like that, most of them never recover their magic touch. So if they lose Kimbrell... it'll suck, but probably not the end of the world.

Braves ain't got a chance this year. Never say never, but... I'm saying never.

Turned on the news the other day and what do I spy with my little eye during the sports portion of the broadcast? None other than (former) Braves all-star catcher and power hitter Brian McCann wearing a god damn fuckin' New York Yankees uniform and hitting a homerun.

Fuck baseball. :ohlord:
