Gilmour and Mason minus Roger Waters and kinda definitely minus Richard Wright... becauuuuuuuuuse he's dead. Ugh, this is probably gonna suck. From the sound of it, it's gonna be nothing be rehashed unreleased crappy B-side junk from The Division Bell sessions, one of their albums that I already thought sounded like nothing but crappy B-sides. But who knows, maybe it'll surprise me and NOT suck. Not gonna hold my breath though.

Post Waters Pink Floyd Material has not been as good as they will still intact. As an avid Pink Floyd fan, I think these previously unreleased materials were not released before coz they didn't made the cut. So prolly its all garbage.

They do the same shit with Jimi Hendrix every 10 or 15 years now. They dig out some demo shit, sparkle it up with some effects, round it out with some added tracks, slap it on a record and put it out. And Hendrix is still so popular that people eat it up anyway. Personally I think Hendrix would've been pissed to see 98% of it being released. But on the other hand, Hendrix had so much ungodly talent that even his crap he never intended to master and release still sounds fucking great.

Then you've got a band like the original Lynyrd Skynyrd who had assloads of hits over a 5 year period (1973-1977) and 5 albums. Damn near everything they touched turned to gold too, at least up until '77 when half the band died in the plane crash. And over the years, MCA's remastered their stuff and rereleased it with bonus tracks, most of which were barebones demo versions of songs on the same album. But before they started remastering and rereleasing stuff with bonus tracks, MCA dug out pretty much ALL of Skynyrds old demos and tracks that got cut from albums, and in 1987 they released it all on one album called "Legend". And Skynyrd fans were all going apeshit over it thinking how great it would be to hear all these basically brand new tracks with the complete original lineup doing them. And then people got their hands on it.... Yeah, it sold pretty decently, made Gold I think, but it only had one single hit song on it, "Georgia Peaches". The rest of it was very very "meh", which is even my own official opinion of it and I'm the biggest damn Skynyrd fan you'll ever meet. And in my opinion, knowing what I know about how much of a perfectionist and control freak vocalist Ronnie Van Zant was, he DEFINITELY would've been pissed off to no end to see MCA release all that stuff.

Which is why I have the suspicion that you're exactly right. This album is gonna pretty much stink like shit,... but people are still such huge Floyd fans that they'll still buy it in large numbers and probably SAY they love it even if they really don't.

Floyd's been around and putting out albums longer than most of us have been fucking alive on this planet. And I absolutely LOVE their music... some of it. Plenty of it sucked too in my opinion, and I have no problem saying it. Dark Side of the Moon was a terrific album, but in my opinion that wasn't really their "best" work. In my opinion, they hit their sweet spot in the years between 1975 and 1979 with Animals, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. And then Roger Waters left and everything after that was pretty crappy again, partly because Gilmour just doesn't have the same hugely artistic vision that Waters always did, and partly because the 80's came to town and most EVERYTHING in the 80's became Mod-Pop garbage, which Pink Floyd apparently wasn't immune to.

Even if Roger Waters and David Gilmour had makeup buttseks and got back together again, I still don't think Pink Floyd would be able to put out the same kind of record anymore. Roger Waters is just too damn old to sound good singing anymore (even with studio trickery), same with Gilmour, and they'd just end up letting down any truly objective listener who anxiously awaited the new album.

But my low expectations is a great thing for them, in a way. Because if I'm right and this new album DOES suck balls, who cares. But if I'm wrong? That would be pretty fucking cool.
