Just got home from the game. A friend had a group with a couple of no-shows so he passed the tix to me for FREE. These tix were worth a grand or two or more, but I figured for once I'd actually endure a ridiculous crowd at a BIG game (usually I go to the smaller non-conference ones or the Georgia vs Georgia Tech games after Thanksgiving). HOLY FUCKING MOLY, Athens was packed full of assholes.

Anybody catch those two COMPLETELY bullshit injury flops that Notre Dame players kept pulling whenever Georgia was gaining momentum on drives in the 2nd half? There had to be close to 100 thousand people there, and 95% of them were rabid Bulldogs fans that were cussing them a blue streak each time they did that shit. Fucking TWICE they did it! Both times, it was bullshit. They should seriously do something about that shit, it's CLEARLY cheating. They should charge these fagolas a timeout or 10 yards or something. If they can suspend Todd Gurley for 4 or 6 games for taking 100 bucks to sign a couple jerseys like he did that year when he was pretty much GUARANTEED to win the Heisman... then they should make rules against frivolous injury "flops" too. It's basically a free timeout without taking a timeout. But I guess Notre Dame is about playing BITCH football.

It should not have been that close. Without that fumbled punt reception Georgia gifted them at the 15ish yd line, Notre Dame wouldn't have had a prayer.

I'm assuming someone else connected at the time started spamming hyperblaster weapon drops or something. I seem to remember an occasion years ago where krenz did something similar spamming drops for the hyperblaster or cells ammo or something.

(Speaking in regards to Varg Vikernes and YouTube...)
It was hard to tell just by his ThuleanPerspective videos on YouTube alone that he was someone who would be categorized as an anti-semitic "nazi". I'm not sure if he'd qualify 100% as a neo-nazi, mostly because he omitted explicit discussion about that in his videos, probably because he wanted to AVOID giving YouTube an excuse to remove his content. And that's precisely why I found some of his videos to be interesting enough to watch, because he DID omit the overtly racist bullshit and he discussed topics intelligently. If the videos had been an assorted collection of nothing but rants about "jews and arabs are inferior, they run the world banks, blah blah", then I would've never wasted any time watching them. The vast majority of the time, his videos were only ever about 2 things: off-grid independent survivalist style living, and northern european religion and history. And even though he COULD'VE steered his narrative towards frothing hate speech when discussing religion and history, it was almost always a factual presentation aside from his opinion. And sometimes he would give a slight opinion on something in that area, but he was smart enough to know not to let it become anything that could be called "hate speech".

And we call companies like Facebook "private" companies who have the constitutional right to deny service to anyone they want because they own the service. But do they really? When it is something so widely used by society, it kinda becomes "society" in a way (or at least a representation of it), and that company then gains the powerful ability to silence anyone they want and give an inaccurate representation of what society really IS.

Think back to how DUMBFOUNDED all the analysts and experts on ABC were on election night when Trump took the vote. They had carried on with the narrative that "There's no way Trump will win. No one would vote for Trump unless they're racist." for so long that they convinced themselves... and many of US TOO,... that they were right. Some people are still convinced that Trump never actually fairly and legally won the election, and mostly because they are still bought into the narrative that there's no way someone like him could win.

YouTube has become so central to our society now that it's become a major vein FOR free speech. It's how normal everyday people communicate with others, kinda like a telephone in a way. Freedom of speech belongs TO THE PEOPLE, not the corporations who make their decisions based on money and self interest. If YouTube can deny a voice to someone, that sets a precedent for the phone company to deny service to individuals as well. Maybe one day the phone company starts investigating your Facebook page or your online blog, and they see where you posted something that was critical of the MeToo movement in some way, or maybe hinted at the idea that 9/11 wasn't everything it appeared to be. Well people like you are obviously "toxic" and must be rooted out. So they cut off your cell phone service. They cut off your home phone. They cut off service to the business you work at until that business fires you and you no longer use their phones anymore.

Can the United Postal Service refuse to deliver your mail because they didn't like a comment you left on a messageboard about something?

Can a hospital refuse to treat you because you called someone a n*gger on Twitter once, and they don't want to perpetuate your racism by helping you stay alive to populate the world with that toxic opinion?

Sounds farfetched an impossible (and hopefully it is)... but I also thought it was impossible for the left to censor things MORE than the conservative right-wing christian kooks tried to back in the 80's.

Amazing they were able to clean up 100-year-old footage to such a level of fidelity

(I've only seen the trailer so far, not the whole documentary.)

They Shall Not Grow Old

Saw this last night. Looks like they did quite a bit of frame by frame digital editing to colorize things. There's some weird things going on with faces in some scenes, makes me think perhaps in spots they layered modern live action images and then layered the faces on that.

It's not a complete accounting of the major events that caused and swayed WW1, but it's a very accurate accounting of what life was like for any random British soldier in the trenches. Some of the shit that happened in WW2 was positively horrible, particularly for anyone in the Battle of the Bulge or the seige on Stalingrad. But I think WW1 might've been worse simply because the main battle front stayed stagnant for about 3 or 4 years. I dunno if all the overdubbed narrative is original audio recordings of people who served in WW1, but all of them have heavy british accents, and I couldn't quite understand parts of it... but at one point it sounded like one of them was describing people getting sucked into mud puddles and actually DROWNING beneath the mud around the trenches. I can't imagine how any of them got out of it alive and then went back to normal life without being totally fucking insane from the experience.

Not a kids movie at all. Probably not a good date movie, although I would urge ANYONE 14 and up to watch it just for the educational value, especially younger teens who might think of joining the military. WW1 is kinda the forgotten war that often gets buried under the Hollywood celebrity bullshit that makes WW2 history so attractive to "edu-tainment" consumers.

Some others I saw lately...

John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum

The story kinda sucks. In the first two it doesn't feel so hokey, but in this 3rd one, the whole premise of the "organization" behind the movies plot is just ridiculous. But the action is pretty fucking insane-o. Particularly the knife fight in the gun and weapons store scene towards the beginning of the movie. That was probably THE craziest fucking hand-to-hand action sequence I've ever seen in my life. INCREDIBLE!

Lords of Chaos

It's about the whole mid-90's black metal church burning thing in Norway and how Varg Vikernes killed Mayhem guitarist Euronymous. It's kinda shitty how they Hollywood-ize that whole situation. The movie makes them all look like a bunch of fucking idiots, and they were... but it also kinda glamorizes them in a way. And the movie favors the narrative that Euronymous never actually intended to kill Varg... and maybe that's true... but he DID say he wanted to drag him to the woods and make a snuff film. Them's serious words, and you can't entirely blame someone if they choose to take that threat seriously. On the other hand, evidence shows he just showed up and started knifing the shit out of him and he never really fought back, which I think says something too, like maybe the film got that part right.

Varg has since been released from prison and he's a free man now. Occasionally I'll watch his YouTube videos where he discusses different things. And sometimes I find myself agreeing with him about certain things and thinking, "Hmm, this guys pretty cool." But then I remember what he did to his FRIEND. And I also remember that he's a fucking hardcore NAZI who seems to intentionally not mention that aspect about himself in order to appear more rational and reasonable. It's "interesting" how certain people can be like that.

edit: Hmmm. Was not aware of it until just now when out of curiosity I went googling, but apparently YouTube has banned Varg from their platform because they don't want to promote "hate speech". If he had any videos promoting hate speech, that would be fine. But MOST of his videos did NOT, and in the interest of GOD DAMNED AMERICAN FREE SPEECH... I personally think they should've been left the hell alone. Free speech gets eroded a millimeter at a time. This only gets worse.

If you right click and "view image", you'll see the full size pic, and the warning in the upper right corner says:

They don't need him at all. But if they have him, no one else does. That's a really really stupid reason to pay him, but it sounds just like something they'd do, doesn't it?

Did you write this foc? ;)

No, but I did say...

Surely I can't be the only one noticing how this guy seems to be flying by the seat of his pants,...

I didn't see any NFL preseason games, mostly because these days you can't tell jack shit from preseason games anyway, nobody except the guys fighting for starting positions try all that hard during preseason anymore.

Either the Vikings are pretty good, or the Falcons are really bad. Likely BOTH are true. My god, they looked fucking HELPLESS. Halfway into the 2nd quarter, I said "Fuck it, it's over already.", flipped the Xbox on and started playing some GTA Online instead.

Cowboys might finally be some serious competition for someone this year.

...is what I thought until I saw New England play in the Sunday Night game. I'm calling it now, unless something major happens like Tom Brady breaks his arm or half the team dies from untreated foot fungus, the Patriots are gonna win the Superbowl again this year.
