Alice's Restaurant.
It's a Thanksgiving cult classic. Either you hate it and would never watch it, or you don't hate it and maybe would. I've never met anyone who really LOVED it though. I like the song a lot better than the movie. I like listening to it on Thanksgiving in the car on the way to family's house to eat Thanksgiving dinner. It's kind of a tradition. Some stations play it on the radio every Thanksgiving. The old classic rock station in Atlanta used to play it a few times throughout the day on Thanksgiving, but that station closed many years ago. The movie... I'll watch it every few years maybe - definitely not EVERY year. Might watch it this year.
It's kinda weird. An interesting snapshot of life in the 60's and hippie culture. The message in it? I don't really know. That family isn't just blood, it's everyone. The ending feels kinda sad, with Alice left standing on the steps of the church as Arlo drives away - and who knows when or if they'll ever meet again. Something about families can't stay together forever, or learning to let go maybe? I guess you can find whatever meaning you need to find in it.
Watched it last night. Yeah... so... it's a dramatization of Oppenheimer's life and story. Nothing really more to say than that. It is what it is. Pretty long though, 3 hours total. I fell asleep somewhere after hour 2 and woke up about 15 minutes before it ended. Didn't miss a damn thing that I could tell.
The explosion of the first test... seems like they didn't want to use any real footage of a real nuclear test. Did they maybe feel like the difference in the look of the shots would disrupt the flow of the movie somehow? I don't know. What they did end up creating in it's place looked FAR smaller than any kind of nuclear explosion. It was very underwhelming, and I think this movie had a moral duty to really demonstrate and relate just how unfathomably vast and powerful a nuclear weapon is. The real Oppenheimer was horrified by what he had created. And the movie showed that, but the explosion they showed looked more like a regular old fireball from a gasoline explosion. In my opinion, the bullshit explosion they used did more to disrupt the movie than using stock footage of the trinity test would've.
Tried watching it tonight. Got about 30 minutes into it before I had to cut it off. There's so much Italian being spoken in the movie, and when I converted it to MP4 from the MKV I downloaded, I didn't burn in the subtitles. So I had to re-convert it a couple times trying different subtitle tracks before I got the one that added all the Italian parts. Will watch it tomorrow night I guess.

The Killer (2023) starring Michael Fassbender.
The previews I saw for it on Youtube made it look like it was going to be some kind of start-to-finish high impact action marathon like a Jason Bourne movie or something, but... it really wasn't. It was okay. The flow was a bit weird the way it did "chapters" for each target he identifies. But the whole "he's a hitman who obsesses over details and methods" thing has kinda been done before, ya know?
Was searching for images of black granite textures and came across this site advertising massage spas.
No, I'm not looking for a massage with a happy ending from some poor chinese girl who's probably a product of human trafficking. Even if I wanted to (which I don't) who could afford it anymore with 300-400 dollar grocery bills every week.
Like I said, I was looking for a black granite texture, and this page was listed because of the background.
I dunno if these are places where you tip extra and they give you a "hand-J", or if they are legit non-sexual massage places. But as I scrolled down the page, I started looking at the pictures of the girls. Is it just me, or in recent times are asian girls starting to look weirder and weirder? Some of them are getting their eyes widened by surgery or something. It's like they're intentionally trying to look like pictures of those weirdo high-end rubber sex dolls. It's just creepy looking.
ps. another trend I've noticed lately is Thai girls using bright blue colored contacts. See picture on top left. Doesn't looks quite so disturbing on her because she barely looks Thai at all, but on girls that DO look stereotypically Thai, it's super creepy looking.

Had two trick-or-treaters come up a while ago. One was dressed as the Kool-Aid Man, the other was dressed as the State Farm guy. Kool-Aid Man said, "Don't worry, I won't break through your walls, I don't do that anymore." State Farm guy says, "But if he does, I have you covered."
Ingles had pumpkins 2 for $10, so I did 2 pumpkins this year. Note, these are not the finished product. Since I took the pics, I noticed places that needed further cutting and carving. Will probably continue cutting more shit off inside the holes every time I walk through the kitchen and notice something, up until tomorrow night when I set em out on the front porch.
Well Quake2 Enhanced brought the fever back. I have not played the regular q2 in 10-15 years. What client is used now to play online? Is it still r1q2 with anticheat? If so where can I find them?
Welcome back. I certainly remember you, we used to play on railz and vanilla back in the day. I forget which aliases you used to use though.
Very few of us are still using r1q2 anymore (I still do - although I almost never play anymore). Most folks are using q2pro, I guess because maybe it's a little more tweakable and has a few extra features.
Anybody seen the 2022 Rob Zombie Munsters movie yet?
I downloaded it several weeks ago thinking I'd watch it. I've heard nothing but bad reviews about it. The longer I sat there looking at the file in the folder, the more skeptical of it I became. I did a brief skim through of a few scenes and from what I saw... it looked to be just like everyone's been saying: a pile of pointlessness. Think I'll probably skip this one and just delete it... which is sad, because I've seen some truly awful garbage this year that I didn't skip/delete and should've!
Just wondering if anyone's seen it all the way through. Opinions and critiques? Recommend, yea or nay?
Watched Poltergeist 1 and 2 earlier this week. Didn't watch the 3rd one. I don't really like the 3rd one - the plot and premise doesn't fit as well with the other 2.
Poltergeist 2 is one of my favorite horror movies. It was rated PG-13, so I got to watch it on HBO a lot during the day in the late 80's and early 90's (HBO kept their family appeal because they wouldn't start playing any rated R movies until after 8pm or 9pm). It used to scare the crap out of me when I was 7 or 8 though. The scene where the sons braces start growing out of his face and suspends him from the ceiling. The part where the dad swallows the agave worm in the tequila bottle, then throws it up as a giant pulsating boogary looking demon worm with Reverend Kane's face.
And then there's Reverend Kane himself, played by the late Julian Beck. Dude was creepy as hell looking. Turns out part of what made him look so creepy and skeleton like was the fact that he was literally sickly when they were filming. He was suffering from late stage stomach cancer as they were filming in May of 1985. He ended up dying of cancer 4 months later in September 1985, before the movie was even released in May of 1986.
My favorite scene from the movie, Reverend Kane appears at the front door of grandma Freeling's house.

Thought it was another one of those family slang things. For instance my mom still refers to cows as "moo-sheepers" because my sister called them that when she was little.
Christmas time many years ago. My folks came up early to stay the week before Christmas. We're in my girlfriends car, she was in the back seat, my mom in the front, me driving, we were heading off to do some gift shopping. We passed a pasture of cows near my house, my mom hollers out "LOOK AT THE MOO-SHEEPERS!" like a kid ...or someone with brain damage. Of course I get the reference, but my old lady has no idea what she means. I look up in the mirror and my old lady is looking back at me as if to say, "What in the holy hell is wrong with your mother?"
First heard of Dream Theater back in middle school when another dude in my class brought an album to class. Was starting to get into death metal at the time, so it sounded like more mainstream hair metal bullshit to me at the time. Never gave it a chance.
Heard people talk about it over the years, how great they are, how great John Petrucci is. They were one of those bands that had a new album every 10 to 12 months, it was just too much to keep up with.
Anyway, fast forward to today. Was bouncing around youtube, came across this, didn't immediately skip it... eh, I Kinda like it. This song in particular is really good. Might have to listen to them a little more, not too bad.
Curse of Frankenstein (1957) starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee
Was watching this earlier tonight. I'm perplexed as to how in the hell they managed to shoot this particular scene where Baron Frankenstein murders his houseguest by pushing him through a broken rail. I can't tell if it's a stand-in stuntman who lands on the floor below, but it shows most of his face. Regardless, the guy falls in a dive pretty much directly onto the TOP OF HIS HEAD, which would've turned his head sideways very sharply risking breaking his neck. This was 1957, there was no CGI or wires, some guy actually took the fall. Dunno how they did it, but damn, it's pretty brutal. Certainly makes the scene more shocking.
The stunt double for Professor Bernstein was mildly injured during the scene in which Frankenstein pushes him over the balcony so that he can kill him and steal his brain. The stunt was rigged so that the stunt double would land on a padded area, which he did… except for his head, which hit the floor.
Now that I watch it again, I notice the floor warping from the padding underneath the covering when he hits.
