Agreed -  :WTF: was that ref looking at.

UNC had just scored quickly and would have had the ball at the 50, with plenty of time and 3 timeouts.

I really don't know what can be done about a call like that, but UNC was not close to being offsides  :raincloud:

Didn't see the game live, but I did just google "UNC Clemson offside" like Haunted said, and... it wasn't offsides, but had they taken a 2nd look at it with a replay before advancing the game, UNC just might've gotten hit with a targeting penalty. God DAAAAAAMN, that hit was harsh, lol!

If it's the hit I think you're talking about its primarily on the shoulder and secondly on the side of the helmet. Borderline perhaps and a really hard hit, but below the borderline for what they usually call that I've seen.

The hit earlier that ejected green was very direct helmet to helmet despite how hard the hit is which is more what they're looking for I think.

Only link I could find.

I can't believe offsides isn't reviewable though, especially for a kick off with less than 2 minutes left. You either cross the line or you don't.

Nah, the play I'm talking about was the same offsides call play. Saw a Vine of a closeup of where the ball floppered (a word I just made up) into the line of Clemson players, and one of the very first UNC players that dives after it just clobbers the shit out of the Clemson player with his helmet whilst he's looking down and crouching down to scoop it up. Looked like as good of an example of "launching helmet-first" into someone as you can get. Dude's head bounces back like it's on a spring, lol! I'll try to find it again.

edit: Ah, here we go. Check the Vine clip. BOOM! HEADSHOT!

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25402957/review-of-accs-offsides-call-reveals-a-targeting-penalty-on-unc

Dunno if targeting penalties are "callable" during onside kicks, and it doesn't make 100% sense to me that they should be if they are. Onside kicks typically dribble along the ground like a shortened squib kick, which that one did, and naturally everyone's gonna be diving head-first at wherever the ball is. The likelihood of two opposing helmets colliding is ridiculously high in that situation.

Yeah I saw the play you're talking about and agree with it being less avoidable during an onside kick. Unless there was partial intent to ADD risk to going for an onside kick with targeting(there wasn't) then I could see them being a little lax per their own discretion.

This will get football related soon enough:

My son was just born yesterday December 11th so I type in his birthday to see what renowned or famous people share a birthday with him as well as any historical events. It turns out there's not much in the shares birthday category. The two most knowned people I can recall were John Kerry and George Mason. But I did notice that Germany and Italy declared war on the US and consequently vice versa on this day. And then I see this:

1789 - The University of North Carolina is chartered by the NC General Assembly.

Hahaha

Lol I may not even show him quake 2 or any games for that matter aside from Mario, Tetris, duck hunt, and stuff like that. He can go from there. I know a lot of dudes sons have played q2 alongside them in the same household but that ain't for me. Don't get me wrong, it'll truly tickle me to look up to and admire his dad for being good at something--which is why he'll watch me operate heavy equipment and boats opposed to play video games ;)

UNC Baylor. I think unc is going to completely blow their doors off y'all. 60ish to 14ish. You heard it here first.

http://pit.247sports.com/Bolt/SIcom-names-Ben-Roethlisberger-the-most-physically-gifted-QB-42080302

Lol

I think y'all know who I'd say.

I don't. :???:

I'd agree that Big Ben gets a little overlooked in the talk about the greatest current NFL QB's. Obviously he's pretty damn good or else a franchise like the Steelers wouldn't have kept him around as long as they have. He's crazy tall, which is a huge benefit to a QB that is passing the ball when he can always have a better view over the tops of the linemen. (That's one of the biggest reasons Atlanta drafted Matt Ryan as their QB despite his lack of lofty achievements in college football. He was 6'4", and a reasonably talented QB coming out of college, and they figured they could easily train and mold him into an elite NFL QB. Whereas Mike Vick was 5'11" or 6'.) His arm strength and throwing distance is probably second to NONE currently starting at the position. I dunno about his "precision accuracy". He USED to be better with his placement, although Pittsburgh's O-line used to probably better too, and that plays a factor in it. One thing I always thought was great about him was that despite his gargantuan size, he can still actually run pretty fast. He's no track star gazelle like a Colin Capernick or Cam Newton, but he used to be able to run a lot faster than most other quarterbacks. And when you couple his size with that extra speed, it makes him harder to tackle and gives him a better chance of picking up 1st downs running the ball himself.

As for who I think is currently the most "physically" gifted QB, I dunno. Big Ben's in the running though.

But as for who I think is actually the "best all around" QB in the NFL right now, obviously it's Cam Newton. I don't like the guy, hate the fact I have to call him the best, but his talent is undeniable. He's having tons of success with Carolina this year (I think they're still undefeated on the season), but this seasons success comes as no surprise at all to me. He could've been having this kind of success all along had he been surrounded with the same teammates in his rookie season. Carolina managed to take this fucking gift from God they were given in Cam Newton and build/train a good team around him. (Cleveland Browns, look and be envious :D) And I suspect they're gonna be dominating the NFC South (as well as the REST of the NFC conference) for a good while to come.

I got a hunch that Carolina is taking the Lombardi trophy this year. And as good as Peyton Manning's Broncos or Tom Brady's Patriots might be on any given day this year, I don't think either one has a chance in hell of stopping them or even slowing them down on their path to Superbowl victory.

Cam has been playing lights out this year, especially with the group of guys he has to throw it to.  Other than Olsen, Cam don't have much to throw to.
Carolina is a run first team, which works well especially late in the year.  Jonathan Stewart ranks 4th in rushing and Cam ranks 32nd.
Cam would be the leading rusher on some teams  :purpleshock:

Cam has been inconsistent in previous years, but has been really good this year.  The only things that I can see that would keep Carolina from playing in the SB would be injuries and if Cam has a bad game and throws 3 picks.

Will Grier is looking to transfer from the Florida Gators - http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14399127/will-grier-transfer-florida-gators-amid-one-year-suspension

Former Florida QB's Murphy, Brissett, and Driskel all were starting QB's for other FBS teams and did pretty well.  UF definitely could have used any of those guys this year.  Brissett probably did the best, he started for NC State and had 19 td's and only 4 int's.

Driskel played last night in the New Orleans Bowl.  Driskel went 26 of 38 for 458 yards and 3 TD's, no Int's.
Driskel finished this season with 4033 yds passing, 27 td's, 8 int's.  Driskel's 4 years at UF he had 2411 yds, 23 td's, 20 int's.
I know a big part is who he is playing against but still  :grrrr:

http://collegespun.com/independents/notre-dame/top-25-college-football-teams-ranked-by-academics

I guess they put nc last because they don't count the kids that graduated through with the assistance of stuff that was brought to light from the scandals. Aside Stanford, northwestern, and notre dame UNC is the best school academically on that list. And even with having on average a far more rigorous curriculum(no wonder the dumb jocks needed help), I still don't buy them being dead last in percentage graduated. Coincidentally the top 3 that are better scholastically ARE the top 3 on this list above too, only UNC is last. Anyway this is a meaningless topic other than me disgruntled with the constant hate dished out to unc in many different forms over the past few years.

In my previous post I was thinking cam over Ben.

Baylor is showing as a -2.0 favorite and 4 starters were announced to be out of their bowl game with unc yesterday. I've already said this, but I think unc is going to blow them out ridiculously.

http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-16/2016-north-carolina-tar-heels-football-schedule.php

It looks like unc has the same schedule as last year, but minus South Carolina, wake forest; add Georgia, Florida state......... But we ALREADY have two d2 games scheduled?!?! WTF. James Madison dukes and the citadel??? Great. Nevertheless with Miami possibly being in the mix now with a decent coach, nc's strength of schedule will be far better than last year.

HOLY SHIT @ cam plowing through half of Atlanta's D then stretching out for the 1st down late in the 2nd quarter. I just got back from fishing and that was the first thing I saw. Close game though.
