As a follow-up to the Chernobyl HBO series you should consider reading Midnight in Chernobyl.

Finally saw the latest Quentin Tarantino movie,
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
.
I don't wanna spoil it, but it's impossible to talk about it
AT ALL
without somewhat spoiling it. So... I hereby notify you of this...
SPOILER ALERT. If you haven't seen the movie and are planning to at some point, READ NO FURTHER.
Otherwise, keep scrolling and read on.
It's kinda the same M.O. as Inglorious Basterds, a blatant retelling and rewriting of history. And honestly, I found the somewhat irreverent rewriting of WW2 history somewhat less offensive than this. It's basically a rewriting of the Manson family murders. In the movie, the Manson family hippies go to the wrong house and get killed deader than hell in over-the-top gory Tarantino fashion.
Tarantino's a well known director in Hollywood. I gotta imagine he's certainly met Roman Polanski at some point. And yet he still had the balls to make this fucking odd-as-hell movie. If I was Polanski or any of the family members of the people murdered by the Manson family, I'd be pretty upset about this movie using them as "characters" like this.
Other than that.... It's basically a 2.5 hour elaborate depiction of LA in 1969 complete with hundreds of classic cars, period costumed extras, and restored building fronts to look like they did in the 70's. Basically it's him reliving his favorite period in movies. And then you've got the couple of scenes with Margot Robie and some other chick where their goddamned FEET get propped up in close-up shots, because obviously, Tarantino is one of those fucking foot fetish weirdos. It's fucking gross.
Despite the fact that I liked the actors in the movie and the performances they gave, the movie itself was not good in my opinion. I like rewatching all his movies once every year or three. Kill Bill, Hateful Eight, Jackie Brown, etc. This one I don't think I'm gonna bother seeing twice. I couldn't even sit through the movie all at once like I normally do. I had to watch it in pieces on 3 different occasions because it was kinda boring and pointless. Rating it 1 to 10, I'd give it a 5. Without the big name big budget actors giving great performances, this movie would COMPLETELY SUCK and would barely get a 1.

Watch watching the last Marc Maron stand-up special on Netflix yesterday, End Times Fun. It was pretty meh. He was quite a different comic back in the 90's from what I remember. Now he's like a more-neurotic-than-usual type of jew comic. Not constantly side-splitting, but occasionally says something funny. I stress the "occasionally" part.
But at the end, it recommended watching his other Netflix series "GLOW", which I had seen in the list on there before, but wasn't interested in watching it before. On accident, I hit play and then got too lazy to turn it off. And by the end of the first show, I was hooked, hehe.
Only on episode 5 of season 1 so far (theres 3 total seasons posted on Netflix currently). GLOW. I guess it's about the old all-female wrestling organization from the early 80's, Georgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It's pretty funny. Would recommend. 8/10.

Back in January, Netflix came out with this 3-part Dracula series that looked interesting, so I added it to my list. Been watching it the past few days.
Here's the most accurate synopsis of it you'll ever read:
Episode 1: "Not completely terrible. Certainly not terrific. Maybe it gets better."
Epsiode 2: "UM........ WHAT THE HELL?"
Episode 3: "WHAT THE SHIT IS THIS!?! This is so retarded. I want my money back."
If it would've been a classic typical Dracula retelling, that would've been just fine. But no, they had to be "original" and jazz it up and bring it into the modern era with Dracula
using a fucking smart phone
and
contacting his lawyer Renfield by email
.
Kill me now.
If you get a chance to see this... yeah, I'd suggest ya don't.

1917
(2019 - rated R)
- starring Dean-Charles Chapman (played Joffrey's little brother in Game of Thrones), George MacKay, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Watched it earlier this week, but watched it a 2nd time last night with my old lady because it was
that
good. Been wanting to see this one since it came out, but I never made it out to a theater. It's a movie about two soldiers in British Rifle Corps in WW1 tasked with delivering a message to another Major who is set to lead 1600 men into a trap the Germans have set for them. I noticed about 3/4 of the way into it that they shot the whole movie too look like it's been shot from one single camera in one continuous scene, which makes it feel more real I guess. It's vivid, intense, and suspenseful. The whole thing is beautifully done, even the music choice for key scenes. I even got a little misty eyed towards the end of it, it's pretty emotional. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
I'd give it a 9.9/10. See this movie.

So.... Sean Connery died.
Unfortunately he died about 3 or 4 days before the most heated presidential election in living memory. So no one's really talking about it much.

I dunno, I saw a few Mel Gibson movies on Netflix (back when I still had it) and Tubi (which is free but w/ ads) and they weren't too bad.
1. Blood Father - an action kind of movie about an old guy that tries to reconnect with his drug-addicted teen daughter and has to fight off angry drug dealers trying to kill her.
2. Get the Gringo - another action kinda thing about a guy gets tossed in a rough mexican prison where no one wants to help him because he's the only white guy, and he ends up teaming up with a little kid... why theres a little kid there, I dunno, I guess they do that in Mexican prisons??? Probably not, but whatever, it's just a movie.
3. Dragged Across Concrete - w/ Vince Vaughan. Pretty good. Another shoot-em-up kinda thing.
All three were pretty decent. #3 was probably my favorite.
Was looking at Mel Gibson's page on IMDB. Another one he did sort of recently (2010) was Edge of Darkness, also kinda liked that one. Sort of a mystery-thriller-action kinda thing.
I'll probably watch Hot Seat at some point if it's on Netflix or something... if I ever bother paying for another couple of months again. Dunno that I'll do it anytime soon. My Netflix expired just after Covid hit in March 2020 and had seen just about everything on there that I cared the least little bit about. Fast-forward to about 2 or 3 months ago, I splurged for another 2 or 3 month subscription out of extreme boredom and poor judgement one night. Was surprised to find that it was pretty much ALL the same shit on there from 2 or 3 years ago.
I'd consider torrenting it but my ISP hit me with a DMCA strike (copyright shit- just a warning), probably for when I either downloaded a copy of Photoshop or, more likely, because I downloaded the brand new Sony movie Morbius. (Was a pretty shitty movie, too. I like Jared Leto as an actor, and he does a good job in the movie, but the whole premise of the movie is just... not very original - pretty formulaic for Marvel comic movies.) Sony is kinda known for tracking torrents. But I can't be absolutely sure which one it was or that they aren't monitoring me and LOOKING for me to keep doing it. So until I can figure out a decent and preferably FREE VPN service to use while torrenting, I'm gonna try not to torrent or download any more shit that I think might be monitored. If anybodys got a suggestion for a free VPN that doesn't snitch on you (or a paid one that is very cheap), I'm all ears.

Yeah, I've seen that he's obviously been working steadily lately. Who keeps giving him roles, and WHY they keep giving him roles,... I'm sure I don't know. He's not the worlds worst actor, but he's nothing special either. Die Hard 1 is like a cult classic at this point (I like watching it Xmas night every couple of years - I wish FX would reinstate their 24hrs of Die Hard on Christmas Day like they did a few years back, as sort of copy of what TBS does with 24hrs of Christmas Story), and obviously his part in Pulp Fiction was pretty good. But then again, Pulp Fiction was more about Tarantino's dialogue writing and the OTHER actors in it moreso than Willis. And kinda similar with Die Hard, that one was carried
ALL DAMN DAY
by Alan Rickman as the villain.
Long story short though, I'm not one who seeks out Bruce Willis movies to watch. One in particular that he did in 2012 that I really liked was Looper. I've actually seen it more than once because I "wanted" to, as well, so it was obviously pretty good. Definitely would recommend that one.
Only others I can really recall at the moment that I kinda liked was...
maybe
... Surrogates. I say "maybe" because I only saw it once, however, I'd kinda like to see it again. Can't really remember everything about it (which is why I'd like to see it again), but I remember enough to know I didn't hate it and kinda liked it.
And then he also did a remake and re-worked version of the old Charles Bronson classic, Death Wish, which was a pretty average movie, but worth watching at least once.

Yeah, and I doubt he's getting paid anywhere near what he used to, either. I imagine studios have found more and more creative ways to screw actors and other film employees out of any residuals, royalties, or whatever they call it. Kinda the same deal with Jean Claude Van Damme, probably Steven Seagal too. They've got DOZENS AND DOZENS of movies to their credit since their 90's popularity peak, and the only people who watch them tend to be long-time real fans of the action genre.
