WC2 was the longest MP match I've every played.  We played ~6 hours over dialup total (we'd save & played over a couple nights), then at a LAN at a friends house we decided to finish the match.  Went another 6 hours.  All the trees were gone, all the gold was gone, it was a cold war.  I ended up winning because I invested almost all my $$ in wizards with blizzard spells.  I had enough of those guys and was right behind an obstacle so he couldn't directly attack me, I leveled his entire city and most of his army.  Best RTS MP ever.  CnC:RA right behind it, I was the battleships & yaks.

The secret to WC2 is to get an ogre army with blood lust. They can take out any defense. It's an unbeatable strategy except for water can hinder the delivery. Dragons/gryphons simply have to be defended against. The dragons/gryphons don't play defense well as they just do damage to the defender's own buildings.

Red Alert was quite awesome, although I always preferred the SP and cooperative styles of play.

If you want a LOOOOOOOOONG game, play age of empires 2. It's made to be nothing but siege warfare but there are all kinds of game design flaws that make every strategy basically fail. So every match goes until someone gets bored and uninstalls the game... or shoots themselves. Depending on how long they subjected themselves to that pile of crap.

Deadly thorns/touch of death is a really useful spell for that. I can't remember how it works exactly but it's something like a 1 in 4 chance of instant kill. If you have 5 bloodlusted foes heading toward your army and your deathknights are behind cover, you can put a very easy dent in their assault and still have plenty of mana left to blast away with death & decay.

However the amount of micro-managment used in this is risky.

I was playing Diablo 3 for a bit but it's kind of getting boring. I think I'll quit it once I beat the game a few times with a couple of the classes and with friends. The end game has a quite a lot of grinding which I'm not really down for, so I'll stop once I'm there.

should be 30-33 at end of normal, 50-52 end of nightmare, 60 in hell, and then inferno is just crazy difficult and lets ya focus mroe on gear cause you are maxed

play with some different builds and classes, they will also be adding pvp at SOME point... a tdm style arena

yeah its gonna die out for a lot of players who dont want to pvp once they go in and max out the characters they wanted to and got some decent gear... inferno is quite a challenge, but was beat 4 days after release by some insane wizard

having coop does help though

but you can put quite a lot of time into a few different characters, like 60+ hours into each class easy if ya dont purposefully cut corners to finish the game faster

ill probably have everything but witchdoctor eventually, the class just doesnt interest me... probably a demon hunter or barbarian after my wizard gets a ways into inferno

the difficulty does seem to scale great which makes it enjoyable to play through a few times on one character doesnt feel too tedious

Yeah, I've played through single player a couple of times. I actually like it better than any of the GTA games. I haven't played multiplayer because my copy of the game was torrented, but single player alone is worth the price of the game. Only complaint I have about the game is that you can't import your own mp3's into the games in-vehicle radio station selection. The game is a little different from GTA from what I remember. The whole game you're trying to increase your ranking in order to earn more upgrades and privileges. You can upgrade weapons to do more damage, be more accurate with laser sights, even use incendiary rounds that set enemys on fire when you shoot them. The idea is to complete all the tasks and buy up all the properties and squash all the enemy gang operations by the final chapters of the game in order to gain the highest rank you can. By the end of the game, you earn the privilege to be basically invincible and have all the special vehicles like the hover jets and jetbikes. There are a few different ways to end the game, you have 2 options that end the game two different ways. I saved the game at that point and played through both options just to see how it would end. Anyway, even after you play through the entire single player campaign and own the whole city and earn invincibility, it's still fun to go on rampages. You can drive one of the tanks all around the city blowing up shit and flattening cars. I've spent hours just doing that, it's a blast. Even before you rank up really high, you can do that in order to slowly increase you rank points. Stand outside one of your headquarters and pick off cops and pedestrians. When the start sending in too many tanks and officers for you to kill, just jump into the elevator and enter your HQ penthouse and the wanted level goes away. Then go back out, reup your ammo at a gun shop, go back to your HQ building and start the carnage again.

At the beginning of the game, you can customize your player character to be either male or female. You can change every detail of their appearance. Change clothes, customize the face to look just like you or like anyone else you've ever seen before if you figure out how to tweak the face settings. I made my character a female with a nice rack and long dark hair. You can even make your character remove all of it's clothes and go on a streaking mission through the city where the goal is to run up to as many people as possible and expose yourself to them. BUT... because the game is rated M and not AO, the game puts pixelated boxes over the ass, crotch and tits of your character. HOWEVER... ... there are downloadable modifications out there to change the skins to no longer use the pixelated boxes. I've used a couple of them, and some of them suck. One of them was just a male skin that someone changed to be used for the female models and it looked like total dogshit. One of the nipples was not centered well and you could see a bit of 5 o'clock shadow stubble on the girls chin when you got up close enough to the face. Anyway, I think I still have the best looking one out there, if you ever get the game and want a copy of the mod, gimme a holler and I'll pass it along to you.

But long story short, DEFINITELY give that game a whirl. In my opinion, it kicks the shit out of GTA. It feels a little hokey and stupid at first, but as you play the game it grows on you.

Speaking of dildo bat... the dildo bat is pretty boring. There other even weirder weapons. There's a huge fist glove you can wear that turns people in a splash of blood and guts in one single punch. There some kinda weird octopus launching cannon that shoots little octopuses that attach to peoples skulls and makes them act retarded. I can't remember if it makes them attack other enemies or if it just makes them stop attacking you until you can kill them. There's some kinda fish guts launcher that coats enemies in fish guts. A few seconds later a shark will jump out of the underground sewer and eat whoever is covered with the guts.

Steam is having a Ballswacky Sale of games,and bargains can be had. Picked up a bunch of things so far: Rage for about 10 bucks. Serious Sam 1 2 and three for 12,and Amnesia the Dark Descent for about 6. If you want it you'll see it at 60-75% off eventually,or that'll be enough to want it. Wasn't going to buy Rage at all,but it's the right price. After Fallout New Vegas and Borderlands,I was Apockolipticed out so I passed. id doesn't excite me anymore. I'm sure those games are good,but not what I long for from them. Quake 1 is hard to beat on atmosphere,and enough graphic enhancements out there to make the experience refreshing. But I want one done with Today's engines.Nothing too Poly Heavy,since co op and deathmatching are part of the experience.fast movingas q1 was,now with cable modems . Lightning fast and furious. And the single player...I would LOVE to design Unsettling minions of strange dimensions! You've seen my work around...I just stumbled across this one rooting around in a pile of old sketchbooks ...imagine turning the corner and seeing this:



Stuff like that...Eye Beests balls of tearing mouths coalescing around you,and the only thing between you and a bloody disturbing end is the burning spikes flying out of your nailgun. And instead of a standard health system you have a Sanity Bar,and if that drops below 0,you don't die but Fucking Lose It,becoming invulnerable and hasted and forced to empty your ammo for every weapon.Then you are reset to a minimal amount again once you are down to your hand to hand weaponry,and if you don't escape trouble by then,you're screwed. And I suppose what would act as Armour in these equations would be Resolve. Maybe a Roleplaying game style of managing effects and defenses for odd enviormental attacks. A scene assails the player with Dispair,and this eats away at Sanity unless a player is equipped with a high Determination,something that would reflect a change of stats unless defended against,or a boost to other stats from having one so high...something. I will eventually arrange a Flash enviorment of walking through  a valliy of eyes like in the Welcome to Weirdness drawing I've done for the comic strip website I'm making.Randomly generated,with occasional mini events one can stumble across in your wanderings...maybe changes of elevation too..

Lots of ideas...no time to write them...gotta go to bed. Ponder these.
