Finally... Max Payne 3!

Can't wait for this one to be released for PC in late May. Always been a fan of the series. From the looks of all the videos I've seen, should be pretty cool. However... with Rockstar doing it, not sure how well it's gonna perform on my system. GTA4 is actually pretty old now, and it didn't seem to run too smooth on this system.

Banjo-Tooie. I can't say it's my second favorite game behind Quake II, because then I'd be too torn between two excellent games.

Getting ready for Diablo 3 by playing a really good mod for Diablo 2,Eastern Sun.

So much stuff to do in it...same basic game but it has tons of new creatures and options for building a character. Check out the convenient wiki here and all the tweaks to crafting and cubing recepie stuff you can do. And they have Diablo 1 monsters in here as well,and areas where the critters are extra powerful and the loot equally better,and you can reassign character skill points whenever you want so you can explore different builds of the prototypes without hours invested into alternate builds.

Too Much Fun,and it'll make the week go fast until D3 day

3:30 AM and I doubt I'll get access to a server tonight. Not even sure if I am supposed to join with my Battle NET account,or my Battle TAG,but I managed to see the 3 or 4 EULA using the Net account name. Oh well...busy today and tomorrow anyway. Tell me how it is.

I managed to get on for about a half hour or so...enough to try the Demon Hunter,so here are a few impressions...

Its very atmospheric,a sweet somber playground for hell's nasties. Things collapse and although its sometimes hard to find a lootable container in the midst of all the flotsam,it can be managed. I wonder if the fixed perspective is truely that fixed: I would have liked to zoom in a bit to see the action beter at times,especially when in close quarter combat.A little too linier,but possibly that is just the beginning of it.

What happened to CHOICE in the way of character building? No branching skill trees(so far),just a series of unlockable skills that suggest "You should Use Your New Skill Here". Part of the long lasting appeal of Diablo 2 wasthe deep schools of thought on what to make of those skill points that suits effectiveness and one's playing style. You can't even boost up an already unlocked skill apparently. Having played the D2 mod Eastern Sun,where you can rejuggle skil points at any time with no penalty,it seems madness to wipe out such a compelling feature of the series.

They cheapened out on the cutscenes...hopefully at key points one gets the standard CGI stuff good enough to sell seperately on DVDs. The minor ones,employing enhanced line drawings,are nice...but disappointing if that's all they amount to.

More later...when I get near the computer Wednesday night !

can still make builds, they just arent going to very quite as much as diablo 2

still havent gotten my hands on it... but i know that the max level is only 60 so thats kinda sad

i personally am looking forward to torchlight 2 muuuuuuch more because its by a lot of the diablo 2 devs and although its got kind of a cartoony art style it should actually be much more fun for a third of the price

with lan option!

Managed a bit more playing of Diablo 3...and more observations...

I managed to finish Act 1 with the Demon Hunter,and was rewarded with a proper full CGI cutscene. And the only real "choice" one gets is to stay with the new unlocked powers or the older abilities with nwer upgrade runes. Its all situational on what you should use,and switching between them on the fly is not possible in mid battle(again I may be mistaken). The Loot you get I find a bit disappointing,since it all draws from 6 or so Prefexes and Suffuxes,not the twenty or more from the first two Diablo games...but that may improve with time and when new areas are accesed. Cash is far more important in this version,since you pay money to train your blacksmith and other select craftsmen who provide you with better goods than found at the average merchants. And since they pay crap for your loot anyway,its best just to trash your magic items for components instead of the few sheckles the merchants offer. The items created have random stats but generally far better than standrd merchants,and they can do rare items as well.

I tried some other classes at this point:the Monk is interesting,and the shaman downright confusing. His standard ability is a Missle weapon,but he's armed with a Knife! And the Poison dart improves when you equipe it with a better melee weapon which makes little sense. I saw him take a swing with the melee weapon once,but have no idea why or how to recreate it. No longer can you utilize a non standard weapon when you stumble across one when you have crap stuff for your class,the abilites won't work for them. The Demon Hunter can't use a melee weapon effectively since all her skills revolve around missle fire,but she could use a standard bow with them as well as two handed crossbows,or one with a quiver. In fact stats are the one thing that increses damage dealt,and only one stat per class works in that regard. Its Dex for a Demon Hunter,Intelligence for a Shaman ,so choosing equipment revolves around that.

Speaking of equipment,when I started to run the Shaman,I noticed the Blacksmith had many abilities already,even though he isn't officially "in" the shop until a few quests into the first act,and he was trained up from my Demon Hunter's investments. The Shaman also had 12000 gold from the DH too,so are these thing supposed to pool together between characters? Haven't used the stash much since one recycles all the loot you get,but will items not for one character be accessed by any you create? Or is it a flaw a patch will correct?

At least it entertains as it confuses. I see the subtle approach to the Randomness that made the first two games so replayable: random small set pieces and dungeons pop up here and there for variety's sake. And when you slaughter a high number of critters at once,or with one attack,you are given a small experience point bonus,making it worthwhile to reconquer earlier areas with a character more powerful now than when you first cleared the map originally. I am entertained...and it'll be a game to be played for another decade.

just get through a good chunk into act II before ya really critique it...

really the BIGGEST pain in the ass is the server connectivity

high latency even when doing solo runs is terrible, and then dropping for server maint when its not an mmo is kinda fucked up.... feels like im playing WOW some times with stupid shit like that

nope even the single player requires connection to battle.net

and ya have latency...

so irritating when you will be playing a game that should be as snappy as possible in single player and you get the occasional internet lag glitchy jumpy movement

played torchlight a few minutes during server maint yesterday, when i hopped back on diablo 3, the latency issues were very noticeable after playing a local game

I don't mind the connection being required for sp. It really cuts down on cheating by handling all the entity calls and modifications serverside.

its a total pain in the ass considering latency can vary between 200 and 450ms

died a couple times in the last boss fight due to lag jumping me back when i moved out of the way of an attack

servers arent capable of smoothly handling all the players they have, ya can tell when people are all playing cause the lag is a lot worse... EVEN IN SINGLE PLAYER -.-

wayyyyyyyyy fun though

good game, just wish they could do somethin about the lag
