  I've always been a fan of the-underdogs too. It's where I found Amulets and Armor. One of the greatest doom clones ever!

A silly little android app named Gurk. It's got the best elements of Ultima 1-4 mixed in with a little Dragonwarrior. It's somewhat lacking in depth, but it solves all of my needs in a game:

#1 doesn't require a 2 hour time investment per sitting
#2 simple enough to pick up in 5 minutes
#3 save anywhere
#4 standard leveling system
#5 no freaking cutscenes exposing the player to writing so bad that it will make their eyes bleed
#6 the fighter class kicks ass, as Gygax intended... not blurred into endless obscurity via useless buff skils and a retarded reliance on magical items (I'm looking at you, the entire history of Blizzard Entertainment)

Duke Nukem Forever

Finally got around to trying this one out. Several of the comments left on the torrent listing site I got it from were pretty negative. I don't know why. It's a decent game so far, and I'm probably half through it now. Same juvenille kooky action movie humor as Duke 3D. Best laugh so far is in the first chapter when you start in the bathroom. You can walk over to the toilet and pick up a log of shit floating in the bowl and Duke says, "A turd in the hand is worth two in the bush." I dunno what the hell these people expected from the game. Maybe the inclusion of some of these "puzzles" you gotta solve to move through maps is a little too much for them to handle, I thought most of them so far were pretty easy to figure out. About the only thing I can think to complain about might be that you can only carry 2 weapons at a time, kinda Call of Duty style, and none of them really allow you to carry a whole bunch of ammo for them. Gotta kinda conserve your ammo at times and make every shot count.

And no doubt there's a mod out by now that lets you carry ten weapons and load the fuckers up.
