"but given the fact that the early earth conditions could have naturally created the building blocks of life, perhaps after millions or hundreds of millions of years single celled organisms emerged." -- in other words, another magical explanation

Explain how uncertainty in any way relates to magic.

your explanation of life emerging is no better evidence wise than reaper's explanation of the universe being created or life being created.

Actually my explanation is infinitely better than reaper's explanation. I do not bring up agents responsible for life for which there is not a single shred of evidence. I leave Zeus, Jesus, Thor, etc. out of the picture because there is absolutely no reason to do bring them in.

I hope one day you'll stop calling reaper an idiot and recognize that intelligent design is actually something you're programmed to believe.

I hope there comes a day where reaper doesn't deserve to be called names.

If we're programmed to believe in intelligent design, you must concede that learning about the nature of reality (science) helps us overcome this 'programmed' belief since 90% or so of the members of the National Academy of Sciences (the elite scientists in our country) actually disbelieve in god. Why is it that the more educated in the nature of our universe a person becomes, the less likely they are to believe in god?

quadz, I'm sure that most people who'd have seen your sentence would agree that you believe natural selection governs mutations, you even said mutations are a part of natural selection.

quadz, it seemed to me like a word game.  When I read that, I automatically assumed "overarching process" was a cellular process overseeing mutations, and the fact that you said random mutations were a part of natural selection made things even more confusing.  You should have just wrote "Natural selection selects the organisms that have mutated in a beneficial way to survive".  Nice and clear.

Damn Dukie, glad to see someone has their priorities in order, a slice is a serious issue and is a discussion that should take precedence over religion, I get real religous when I dont slice but backslid like hell when I see the curve start in.

There must be some kind of way out of here
Said one poster to the other.
Theres too much confusion
I cant get no relief
Opinions fly and all have one
None will level on the line
Nobody listens to the other's worth.

No reason to get excited one poster quickly spoke
But there are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I weve been through that
and still we deny our fate
So let us not talk falsely now The hours getting late

Watchman, Watchman, what of the night?
And I clearly  heard him say
The morning cometh, and also the night
EVEN IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE....

All along the watchtower
Listen as they sing  the watch
The four horsemen are a-riding
And the wind begins to howl ......................................................................

I just bought a taylormade rescue-mid in a 4, about 3 weeks ago.
 ;D

It's like god's club.

Smacks em straight and off of any surface, 200 yds with a 3/4 swing..

try one 'o them to cure your slice, and let's get back to where we were in the conversation!

I believe we were discussing single celled life for the purpose of simplifying the process of natural selection thru genetic mutation for those readers who need to understand the basic principles of life, in order to correctly discuss it's probability of coming into existance, all by itself, without the need to impose spaghetti monsters or other dieties to fill the knowledge gap.

ps. that was great QD.  ;)

I would still believe some of the philosophy of the bible is sound even if Jesus wasn't a real life character.  I think one of the noteworthy things if it were proven would be the end of the "Jesus was killed by Jews" idea for sure.

Here's a weird question:
Would it alter christian faith much, if it were historically illustrated(demonstrable) that jesus never literally existed?

Why do you say weird? 'tis only a question...
To answer the question in a word, yes.

To expand a bit:

Without Jesus, there is no Christian faith; He is the foundation of the Christian faith.  Why?

Jesus is the messiah, God made flesh.
He was born of a virgin
Lived as man (yet without sin)
Willingly shed his blood (died on a cross) for the sins of ALL mankind.
Was buried and rose from the dead on the third day.
Ascended to heaven after being seen by hundreds of his disicples from all walks of life.

Since these statements (the foundation of the Christian faith) are all about Jesus, to take Jesus out of the equation is to remove the Christian faith, ergo, no Jesus, no Christian faith.
If any are really interested in a better exposition of the Christian faith, it can be found expressed in a letter by one of his own Apostles (Paul) in 1 Corinthians 15.

DaHanG, you are forgetting something very important: most people are biased and sometimes lie about important things.  I wouldn't be surprised if JAMA reported lies.  I wouldn't be surprised if HIV didn't cause AIDS.  You will never overcome your own programming.  Everyone believes in intelligent design, but at the same time, some may have uncertain biases.  Do we call uncertain bias a belief or just an uncertain bias?  You tell me.

I hate to resort to such a simple quote that has been overused, but "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" - Carl Sagan. You can't just say everyone believes in intelligent design, but they just say they don't (if that's what you mean by some people are biased). You need to present some evidence for such an extraordinary claim that can reasonably account for every single individual, not just the majority. I don't deny most people fall under the trap of the illusion of design, but as for every single individual literally believing in it, that's more than a pretty big stretch.

the end of the "Jesus was killed by Jews" idea for sure.

The "Jesus was killed by Jews" idea has always been an example to me of how people, whether politicians, preachers or teachers will often bend truth to move (for whatever reason(s) ) people to support them.

Actually, Jesus was killed by Roman soldiers.
