I don't know if anyone has the answers yet, but I have a few questions about the re-release that I was hoping to get some info on:

1)  Is OpenGL supported with the re-release or only software mode?

2)  Can you use an autoexec.bat on the re-release?

3)  Is there a listing of the new console commands anywhere?

Can't condump. Not supported. cvarlist works but you can't even redirect it to a file for reference.
I prefer q2pro's descriptions when you use a cvar without arguments.

Found something strange with weapon drops on death, not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly...
Typically, when you die with a weapon that has ammo left, you will drop that weapon. However in the remaster, you only drop weapons if Weapon Stay is disabled. From the source code:

The TossClientWeapon function is called from player_die. If I'm interpreting this right, an extra check has been added to the remaster to see if the weapon is droppable. With Weapon Stay enabled, this prevents weapons from being dropped, so item->drop will read false and nullify the item.

This check doesn't seem to be present in the original source code:

Strangely enough, even with Weapons Stay on you can still drop ammunition in both original and remaster (ex. in console: drop bullets / drop rockets). Because grenades are droppable as ammo, if you die while holding these they will drop correctly in the remaster regardless of the Weapons Stay setting.

Cannot deathmatch on single player levels they only wanted to include multiplayer specific maps which isnt true to original games.
It looks like you can't select single player maps in the UI but console commands work fine (gamemap base1). The deathmatch spawn points/items appear to be intact from the original, and I managed to host a lobby on Outlands/strike for a bit:

No list of console commands there yet, but a little more info .There does seem to be support for dedicated servers for other enhance Q2  clients I'm guessing.

You can type "cvarlist" in console and it will list all commands (you probably know this already) but no description of what they do, though you can usually figure it out.

I believe it is D3D11 and Vulkan. No software mode :(

It's an interesting remake. I like it.

while i agree that alot of changes could be made to the game as far as commands and dedicated servers i love a lot of the changes to some of the textures and the fact that they made it cross platform i also like that it is a seperate entity from the original release of quake however there are a few updates i think that they could and should make like being able to edit or add maps to the game which im sure will have support soon if i was to guess id also like to see if they are gonna allow some of the mods into the game and if the console side of the game is going to be able to allow downloads of these other maps just a few thoughts of mine i feel that the game runs buttery smooth though when there isnt any packet loss  :biggungrin: but as far as a remaster is concerned i thought they did pretty well for just getting it started it could always be better but ive been enjoying the game on both xbox and pc i did read that they already released the source code i dont have the link for it but it would be interesting to see if it has most of the same coding

Maps can be added to the Q2R servers if you know where to put them. They can be downloaded but there's no indication that they're downloading and the game drops to console while it's doing it. Long downloads look like it crashed or something and they're UDP only. Paril says there will be a patch for dedicated and for HTTP redirects. No timeline.

The best thing to do is port over quake 2 n64 to the vanilla game to run on source ports like yamagi or q2pro and host server running the exclusive 10 multiplayer maps from n64 game.

Shouldn't be hard, I'll look into it.

But it will be copyrighted content, so the best option will likely be instructions on how to copy some pak files or something. People who already own a steam/GOG version can use it but it won't be redistributable like the recompiles of quake levels or anything.

Update: n64 map (bsp's) and textures load just fine when moved over to a normal quake2 client.

First 2 major hurdles are the fact that ducking ruins the game and all print_world style text goes through a translation file and support for looking up the messages would need to be added.

After that, there are a handful of custom monsters that need logic. I'm sure it converts pretty easily, but that means we need a new gamex86.dll, which was more work than I could commit at the moment. Hopefully next week I can throw time at this. If so, I'll start a new thread.


EDIT: Also, don't save things INTO your q2 remastered pak0.pak in pak explorer. Looks like it causes some issues.

lol i tried running quake 2 enhanced with quake 2 pro it actually loaded up and ran the sky is spinning lol lmao lol i couldnt join multiplayer game tho says map differences from server.

i wouldnt care about porting over the single player, just the multiplayer maps and those would work fine with crouch im pissed they dont allow crouch in the mp that would be one of the reasons to port it over to q2pro/yamagi so you can crouch in those multiplayer maps.

besides even the stupid pipes on each side waterpit in n64 quake 2 they could of made it so instead of having to jump in the water you could of crouched under the pipes, could of easily implemented crouch so many little things u could slightly change so crouch works out good.

hell when i first got the game i thought u supposed to crouch under the pipes anyway lmao lol.

That's not all 10 of them plus they're recreations would be better to just port n64 content from q2 remaster into q2pro so they're mostly correct.

ya i see the server tho i loaded up some maps on the server, ya the textures arent correct lol also server only has 8 maps so actually 2 n64 maps missing from its deathmatch mode on it, like i said it's just best someone port the actual n64 deathmatch map content and run it on mutant server.
