At first, I kinda hated this game. They changed it a bit from the first game to where whenever you land a striking knockdown on someone, it doesn't usually have a predetermined animation for the way the model falls to the mat. If you throw a heavy right overhand hook to the head and it knocks them down, it typically kinda ragdolls the model and tosses it headfirst to the left in such a way that they look almost weightless while flopping to the side. Very unrealistic looking. That shit got on my nerves SOOOOOOO bad, like fingernails on a chalkboard whenever it happened, it just annoyed the fuck out of me. Made me hate the game so fucking bad. I also didn't like how reach advantage started to matter as much. If you're the smaller guy, it's way way harder to get in and land strikes on someone without them mauling you to death in the process.

However... now that I've been forcing myself to play it a bunch lately, I've grown to love it. The knockdown animations still fucking suck ass, but the overall mechanics of the rest of the game are sooooo much better for head-to-head play online than the last one. There's a lot more ways to counter, change stances for situations and for counters, stand-up striking battles can have way more strategy involved in them now, and the ground game is IMMENSELY more competitive. All aspects of the gameplay have actually become way more realistic. Using real world boxing and MMA strategy for approaching standup fights gives you an advantage against the casual noob whose only apparent strategy is just to keep spamming their hardest punches and heaviest spinning kicks at you the whole fight.

Like all the reviews online have ever said, yeah, the game can have a pretty steep learning curve. But if you spend lots of time running through single player career mode in each one of the weight divisions, you'll eventually start picking up and mastering the basic striking and grappling strategies.

When I first got the game back in March, I tried playing a few casual quick fight matches online. I was not doing too well. But now that I've played through all the divisions in career mode once or twice, I've learned how to put together striking combos better, how to utilize the standup clinch better, and definitely how to approach the ground game more intelligently. Most of the other folks playing this game have no idea how to properly deny and defend transitions on the ground. It gives you a HUUUUUGE advantage if you can do it and they can't. Take them down, get to half guard, wait for them to attempt to transition, defend it until they run out of stamina, posture up, and blast the fuck out of them with hammerfists and elbows. Easy KO. Good shit.

Shadow Warrior 2 is supposed to be out at some point in 2016. But who the hell knows, the way shit goes with all these games these days, it could be the middle of 2017 before it happens.

Nobody get too fucking excited though. As you can see from the video, Lo Wang ain't the same Lo Wang of the 90's. Since the reboot, there's a completely different voice actor for him, and his ching-chong accent has been dialed back considerably, probably because a few pussies out there will think it's racist and they don't wanna offend anyone.

I got myself a copy of the first rebooted Shadow Warrior 2013 game for XboxOne a good while back. I haven't finished the game though. Only played the first one or two levels. Not because it's a terrible game, just been more preoccupied with other games. From what the video shows, the sequel should probably be a little more visually stunning. It's pretty fucking amazing what they're able to do in video games today. We've come a long way since the days of Super Mario and Mike Tyson's Punchout when I was a kid.

Also been trying to get my old original 1997 copy of Shadow Warrior to run with DosBox. Setting up the controls the way I wanted was virtually impossible to do, so I decided to hunt around for a new-fangled source port for it like the Brutal Doom shit for Doom and Doom II. Called "SWP" I think. It runs, and the graphics are a tad better, but it still feels a little off. I never actually PLAYED the game back in the day, I just typed in the cheats and ran through it in godmode cuz I sucked.

Go to www.gog.com . They have all the Build engine games for sale super cheap,and they come with all the expansions too. And they are pre configured with DOSbox to run on modern machines. I have Shadow Warrior,Blood,Duke Nukem3d,Redneck Rampage and recently got Realms of the Haunting,too. Being stuck with a laptop with only 2 gigs RAM off the shelf makes me appreciate these low impact games...

Nah, I still have all my old original game CD's. Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Suckin Grits on Route 66 expansion, Redneck Rampage Rides Again, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem, Blood. The only ones I do not have that I might be interested in are Quake 1 and possibly Hexen. And those I could just as easily find for free with a torrent.

Been tinkering with different source ports for Doom/Doom2 lately. There's one called Doomsday that uses an engine capable of using fully 3D MD2 models like Quake2. Didn't like it though. For starters, all the in-game menus and notifications and the out-of-game setup and frontend crap is just a little too option-heavy and complicated for my tastes. Sure it's nice to be able to customize every little thing about the game to get it just the way that suits you, but if you've ever tried it, then you've seen shit about it like the taskbar along the bottom, etc. Mostly it just lacked an exciting feel with the way they did the 3D monster models. They look like crappy Q2 style MD2's, so they're not as detailed and pretty as they could be. And when you shoot them dead, they just kinda instantly spin and land on their backs. I dunno if it would be possible, maybe something about the original game source prevents them from doing anything like this, but they should've animated something better for when monsters die. For my money, Brutal DOOM is still the #1 best source port for the original DOOM games.

I was looking for a source port for Blood, but apparently they never released the source for Blood, so... no dice. I did find a few videos about a total remake of Blood called "Transfusion" which uses one of the Quake 3D engines complete with Quake style 3D models.

Also found this source port for Quake1 called DarkPlaces that looks great. Whenever I finally get bored dicking around playing through BrutalDOOM DOOM2, I definitely plan on giving DarkPlaces a whirl. Great video with side by side comparison of the original game and the much enhanced source port.

I've tinkered around with this Quake1 DarkPlaces port a bit. Also downloaded a few various enhancement mods. Wasn't aware at first that the "Epsilon" thing was an all-in-one package with hi-res map textures, hi-res models, and a few other things to upgrade the game and make it look better. Tried that one and a few others I found. I was hoping that since Quake1 is so old that I'd be able to run all these enhancements maxed out, but it looks like my video card isn't good enough to get the job done. The major problem appears to be with the real-time lighting effects. Everything gets really sluggish when I turn on RT world lighting and max out the features. I can dial back some of the individual features of it to speed things up a little and regain a little bit of accurate response with the mouse aiming, but it's still a tad slower than I'd like it to be. It's crazy just how many display settings there are that you can tweak in-game. I don't think I've ever seen a Quake2 client with this many settings and options. Maybe EGL, I can't really remember, but I doubt it.

I never understood why id decided to completely change the overall theme of Quake between Quake1 and Quake2. Quake1 had more of a HP Lovecraft medieval sci-fi almost steampunk theme to it. Then when Quake2 came along, they just re-themed it as a near carbon copy of Doom. Doom was about demons from Hell, and Quake2 was about zombie cyborg space aliens.

Lately I picked up a copy of Broforce when it was on steam sale.

It's a campy sidescrolly shooter in the vein of games like metal slug and contra that you can play multiplayer or hotseat. The characters are all the heros and such of 80s-2000s action movies along with their signature styles and weapons, and the overall theme is a very overblown team america spoofyness.

For such a simple game it's actually very fun and addictive. The challenge is reasonable on the campaign, and there are little covert ops maps where you have to complete the map with one hero in one go without dying which are very tough.

Lots of fun, pretty cheap and it's good for a chuckle here and there as the silly AI enemies die in horrible ways.
