I love this song. I hate this video.
Call me crazy, but I kinda think it's pretty shitty when MOST of the band is dead, but some putzes in suits in an office somewhere sign off on branding something as a new "official" music video for a song that's 50 years old. In my opinion, Jim Morrison would've punched someone for putting this video out.
Some girl being mock-crucified on a telephone pole at the beginning is just dumb, cliche, and unimaginative. But then burning the telephone pole at the end and it basically looking like a fucking BURNING CROSS (conjuring up thoughts of the Ku Klux Klan)... is 10 times worse. My god. What the hell, people?

This bends my brain. In a good way. George Duke. He was keyboard player for Frank Zappa during the 70's, Zappa's best period in my opinion, perhaps MUSIC'S best period with all the great progressive stuff that came out back then. And this is from roughly the same period, so of course it's also mind blowing.
Panning and volume levels of instruments are kinda bad, and overall volume of the recording is too quiet. Turn it up, I guess. *shrugs*

No video, just an interesting pic I found.
Left to right:
Leon Wilkeson (bass - Lynyrd Skynyrd),
Lou Reed,
Ronnie Van Zant (vocals - Lynyrd Skynyrd),
Leslie West (guitar/voc - Mountain)

Another interesting pic...
Ozzy Osbourne and Sam Kinison. Judging from Ozzy's hairstyle, I'd say... probably around 1987. Then again, I don't think Sam got into wearing the long tailed bandanas until 89 or 90. Who knows.
Anybody who was a hard-partying rock-n-roller from those days wanted to party with Sam. He was notorious for partying harder than anyone, and people would push him to do ridiculous and dangerous amounts of drugs. And strangely, it was not drugs that caused his death in 1992. He had sobered up, married a new wife the week before, and was getting ready to begin a big tour. On April 10th, 1992 (
30 years ago tonight actually
), coming home from a local comedy club one night, his Trans Am was hit by a drunk driver in a pickup truck. Sam was not wearing a seat belt and was killed when his head hit the windshield.
Two lessons there:
1. Don't drink and drive.
2. Wear a fucking seatbelt.
Had Sammy been wearing a seatbelt, he probably would've survived that night.
And Ozzy is pretty cool too, of course.
I suppose the 3rd lesson
SHOULD
be "Don't do drugs.", but for some befuddling reason, these two particular people seemed to be invincible to them. Still... don't do drugs.

Ronnie James Dio. The smallest dude with the biggest voice.
And Richie Blackmore on guitar is the fuckin' man too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVXy1OhaERY
And David Coverdale (later from Whitesnake) in Deep Purple wasn't bad either.
And Richie Blackmore on guitar, again, the man. Best part of Deep Purple's sound was the psychedelic combo of Blackmore's strat with the overdriven organ playing of Jon Lord.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv5WA0RIDG4
Footage was taken from a 1974 concert somewhere in California. There's videos of Black Sabbath on youtube also from that same concert. That would've been one helluva show to see in person.

John Prine. Not really a terrific song, I was never too interested in his music. Kinda rediscovered him lately. He was always a great storyteller kind of singer/songwriter. He suffered from lung cancer and had respiratory problems towards the end. He passed April 2020 from complications due to covid19.

Afrigo Band
is one of my all-time favorites. I've been following them from the beginning. Sometimes at the night when I cannot sleep I play my favorite album
Olumbe Lwo'bwaavu
with my iPod and start dancing! But I need to be quiet so that wife does not wake up. Otherwise she get really angry, not a dancer type!
I also like
Madoxx Ssemanda Sematimba
. No funny stuff!
And who wouldn't

Most Sabbath fans don't want to sound cliche and admit it, but honestly... Paranoid is the best album.
First time I listened to it was the early 90's. Was flipping through my dads record collection one day. He had shit like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, Steppenwolf, Moody Blues, etc. But he also had two records that I almost couldn't believe he dared to buy. Black Sabbath's Paranoid, and Alice Cooper's Love It To Death. I had an old early 80's stereo system in my room that I inherited from my great grandmother when she passed that was a record player and tape deck receiver thing. I snuck em up to my room and listened to them in the dark after everybody went to bed. (My dad didn't want me touching his precious records, lol) Fuckin magical! There's just something about hearing those two albums on the original vinyl... that needle hiss adds a nice eerie ambiance to the music.
Was fixing to post a picture of the album, but alas... it's either in a box in the basement, or at my parents house. I found the Alice Cooper one, and I have a copy of the not-at-all greatest Black Sabbath album Technical Ecstasy (eh I still kinda like it). Also found a little 45 single of Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear the Reaper.
I used to scour the record bins at local consignment shops when I was a teen looking for old records. Back then, they were going for like 25 and 50 cents each, even popular shit like Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. Nowadays those old records sell for 10 to 20 bucks or more. I'm telling you what man... don't throw out your cassette tapes. They're probably gonna make a comeback. CD's too. Hell, VHS has a cult revival going on now I think. People like old shit.
