Yeah, I think I'll sit this one out. This is why I've grown to hate getting involved in leagues, tourneys, and events. Eventually someone finds a way to suck the fun out of it.

FPS...hehehe. I think I had around 25 with dynamic lighting off. Sofiene probably was in the single digits .

Oh and vae, you can set cl_particlecount pretty high. That makes all railtrails appear. (Mine is set to 16384 so nothing ever disappears due to maxing out the limit...but packet loss makes trails disappear.)

Cool, does that really work? I get sick of ghost rails from time to time when alot of people are on. What is the most you should set it to Slayer?

I have it set to 16384, but you can set it up to 1048576.

part of the problem nowadays is that people don't ever want to play against people that are better than they are.  How are you supposed to get better when you don't like a challenge?  Reminds me when i first started and the [NATTAS] bunch were tearing up Evil homers.  i was playing w/ 300+ ping and had no video card but had fun getting my ass whipped cause i enjoyed the challenge, which is what made me better.

part of that problem is also people who sit around shit talking in a server while they're playing ffa instagib with noobs while pinging 10ms and who effectively make people not want to play at all, as opposed to trying to get better.

If you didn't try your hardest to act all cocky maybe people wouldn't mind the fact that you'll do whatever you can for a win, and consistently cry like a baby after 2 bad spawns in a row while calling people whiners for not liking it when they get spawn killed over and over by someone with 1/20th of their ping who doesn't need to do it to get a win.

btw, if I notice anyone pulling a CRU and teamcamping in what's supposed to be a fun get-together kind of event, their ass is gone for good

heh dervish, i took 2 years off this game. 2 fucking years and i can still come in and clean house..  and as far as 1/10th of their pings, i just actually got that as well as i have always been around 50-60. Don't give me thos elame ass excuses.  We dont get cocky until someone talks shit, then we put them in their place.  And i've never been with a CRU for a FFA i shoot anyone and everyone.  even look at the TS frag count, vigi and i have killed eachother more than anyone else. so if anything we go for eachother more than everyone else.  You're the big IR guy nowadays? if i remember right im best friends with your originator. i may complain cause i get jewed a cpl times, but i like pounding on the keys to let it out.

it's also funny how ppl like to whoop up on ppl, we see ppl win by 15 or so before we get in, then we win by 15-30 and they bail.  sorta funny how you can dish it but you can't take it

You should play, as should everyone who wants to. If you truly do play to have fun then it shouldn't matter if you win or lose or who you are playing against. I really enjoy the the iR500, it is the only time I can get a good solid 30 minutes to an hour of fun insta fragging without the server dwindling to 0 people in a few maps. On the FFA server, too many people lurk in spectator mode and try to start shit or just simply leave when someone better than them joins. Like Leatha said, people will be on there tearing up people with a lesser skill and that is fine. I even see people with lower pings whooping up on Eruo players with higher pings and it doesn't bother anyone, but low and behold if one of us joins then it is all of a sudden an issue. I see it all the time even from players who should be some of the better competition out there now. This tells me that people indeed do not play for fun, or that their definition of fun simply means winning.

Q2 insta is one of the better online games out there, even in it's toned down current state of no hook, hiding, and spam railing tactics it is still fun to play. People who get my respect are people who despite loosing by a large margin still keep playing. People like hitman, nuffy, and others to name a few.  And you know what? They will get better because of it. There are too many people out there right now that shit talk or post their matches over and over again of how good they did, but they are the same ones that bail when someone better joins a server.

Get over it already people, it's a game. You will not win every game as I don't, but if it is truly for fun why should it matter?

Yeah I am "big iR guy" these days, and NO you are being a dick. You're ALWAYS a dick, and pretty much anyone who's been in the itdm scene for a couple years knows this.

Soulz bitched out of q2 years ago because of his chick, and I've held the clan together by the sweat of my brow every day since then. Any time he wants to come back for more than a day at a time he's welcome to do so, but he's never coming back as the big cheese since I've paid for what we have now in time and effort and cash.

Alpha has a point, no matter how poorly he chose to address it, and it's his point that makes me spend a lot of my time searching for better maps to play in these that will minimize how often we have players fighting for the prime spawncamping spots on the maps. During every IR500 I've watched them degrade into small scale battles to see who can hold on to the cheapest spawnkilling spot on the map and Vigi is not innocent in this. He's actually one of the main reasons it happens because people start emulating the person in the lead if the only way to near his score is to play just as cheaply.
(by which I mean stand in one spot most of the round, facing spawns with a wall to your back)

In the one IR500 that this happened the least, multiple people spent a week reconfiguring the spawnpoints on the map to minimize the effect, and Vigi ended up spending most of the round in the fucking oven on vendm4 where you can see 2-3 spawns easily and shoot people on the floor over and over while being unapproachable from 5 of 6 possible directions.

with that clarified for you, here's another "threat" and this applies to everyone:

Don't show up if you are going to act like a dick. I don't run these events to prop up your swolen egos, they are opportunities for the active regulars to have a big fun FFA that will stand out in their minds as something cool they did while playing q2.
They are meant to be enjoyable and to build interest in the mod with the non-regs who invariably show up to see whats going on in the server with 30+ players, and ANYONE who fucks that up by being a dick is not going to be welcome back any time soon.

If you want to ego trip and talk shit about how you "clean house" you should go play the tdm players at a mod that consists of more than just clicking and get wiped across the floor.

I agree it's good strat, and I'm not faulting you for using what's available to get more kills. It's up to me as the organizer to minimize the number of spots where that can happen easily if I want the matches to be as wild and fun as possible.

I've used the technique on railz a couple times when that map comes up with enough players, after seeing how effective it was that day.
