And just as an example, check out the gigantic wall of speaker cabinets right behind up against the band on the cramped little stage in this video. These days, bands use empty dummy cabs just to fill things up and look impressive and old school. But Mountain used every single fucking cab they had and played as loud as it would go. Coincidentally, everyone in the band was deaf as shit by 1975.

I can't imagine having to play a 2 hour set every night with no earplugs with that shit right directly behind my head. FUCK!

Been listening to these guys a good bit lately. You probably remember The Black Crowes. Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson parted ways and vocalist Chris started his own band. Chris actually plays guitar now, and is pretty good at it too. More on the lighter side than Black Crowes were, and very 70's sounding. I love bands that can sound as good live as they do on their albums.

LOVE the lead guitarists guitar too. There's another video online by Premier Guitar where he talks about how it was somewhat modeled after Jerry Garcia's old "Wolf" guitar. I guess that peculiar sound he and Jerry Garcia got might've had a lot to do with the brass plate that the pickups are mounted in.

SRV & Double Trouble @ Montreaux 82 - Dirty Pool

This was before his first album Texas Flood came out. He was fairly well known in the local Texas music scene at the time, but this was really SRV's first widespread exposure, and the majority of folks attending the concert had never heard of him before. Some in the crowd were booing, and SRV was upset by the whole experience. But it led to him meeting David Bowie after the show, who asked him to join him in the studio to record his upcoming album Let's Dance (SRV plays the guitar solo in the title track), which led to him signing with Epic records.

Friend of mine called me up today, said he knew I was a big Mastodon fan, he owed me so he got us tickets to go see Mastodon play at the Georgia Aquarium in a few weeks. Supposed to be an "acoustic" show, so... I dunno what to expect. Supposedly they've been doing tons of writing during covid, so maybe they'll be debuting some new stuff. Either way, it'll be a unique one-off thing, should be one to remember for sure. Plus, I've never been to the damn Georgia Aquarium before, so that'll be fun to finally see what they have there.

Last time I saw them was back in 2002 on their first tour after the release of their debut album. They opened for Dillinger Escape Plan who was being temporarily fronted by Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton. It was at the old Masquerade in East Atlanta (RIP - now closed - converted to high dollar douchebag loft apts), kinda small-ish club. Mastodon was mostly unknown at the time. I hadn't heard of them at the time either, but they blew my fucking head off that night.

Footage of Heart live from 1976, right after their debut album Dreamboat Annie, their best album in my opinion. Some stuff from 77's Little Queen in there too. Bands used to do that - they'd write something and try it several different ways live to see the reaction it got to judge what to do with the arrangement when recording it.

I would like to just say that I can't thumbs this up or upvote this enough. Dreamboat Annie was one of the first albums I got into as a kid, and even White Lightning and Wine was going through my head yesterday. I've seen them two times. First time with Roth, second time with Sammy. Oh wait... wrong band. ;-)
