The other Winter brother, possibly more talented. He's mainly known for his prowess on the keys, although he can play a little guitar too. Seems like there's not many instruments he can't play, which is why I say it's possible he's more talented than his brother was.

He was probably about 61 when this video was shot, and he still puts on a helluva better show than most guys 1/3rd of his age. Watch and fucking marvel.

Kickass bonus track off the 2001 re-release of Judas Priest's 1977 album Sin After Sin. This song actually wasn't from around 77, it was a track that came out on their 1984 release Defenders of the Faith. Dunno why they decided to stick this particular live track on an album originally released earlier than the song... but whatever. The song still kicks ass. My opinion: this live version of the song is 100 times better than the studio version.

I've heard plenty of Albert King in my time, but for some reason I forgot that he was a southpaw, and further forgot that unlike southpaw Jimi Hendrix who played a righty-guitar lefty with the strings slapped on backwards, Albert King never bothered restringing it properly. Watching him play just... blows my fucking brains outta my ears. If you gave me a left handed guitar strung for a righty and I flipped it and played it righty, there's NO FUCKING WAY I'd have any fucking clue what I was doing. I dunno, just crazy to think that someone out there actually went their whole life playing like that.

Saw 'Generation Axe' last weekend w/ Steve Vai, Tosin Abasi, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt, and that freakin goofball Malmsteen.

Security were actively shutting down anyone they could spot shooting video, but this gentleman managed to get some pretty good quality footage from the tail end of the show.

P.S. Malmsteen lived up to his reputation, in his solo part of the show he made the supporting band stand against the back wall, and turned on massive fog machines, so that you could literally see him and only him out in front in the spotlight. It was eye-rollingly amusing.

I own a copy of it - haven't spun it in a good while - but his first Rising Force album wasn't too bad from what I remember. It had turds weaved into the track list here and there, but taken on it's own, it would lead the listener to believe that followup albums would've been equally listenable. HOWEVER... not what happened. He did one more Rising Force album with Soto on vocals, and it was... not very good. And then he dropped the Rising Force name and just went by Yngwie when he put out Trilogy. Have you seen the fucking cover of this pile of shit!?! He's fighting a fucking dragon with a stratocaster. Pretty gay. And then I did something really stupid and gave Yngwie one more shot when I bought Fire & Ice. It was like being gang raped in the ear hole by the awful dick of every 80's glam metal band to rock a teased poodle perm. And... I didn't learn my lesson apparently, because I later bought a cassette of Magnum Opus. Pretty sure it was from a bargain bin for less than 4 bucks though, so... silver lining.

Haven't been brave enough to check out anything from him since '95, even for free on youtube, but I imagine it's all the same recycled cliche 80's hideousness he's always punished his 2 fans with.

I heard late last year that Slayer was supposed to playing a handful of dates in the US with Carcass. I was jumping up and down and shitting myself with excitement. 2 of my most favorite bands in 1 show. But alas, they skipped Atlanta. The closest they came was somewhere over in Greenville SC I think. Couldn't make it.

Cool video, but...

I don't understand why someone felt the need to make the cameraman CONSTANTLY move side to side while he's filming a completely stationary subject. This kinda shit annoys the living hell outta me. This is where our A.D.D. riddled brains have taken us. We can't bear to watch ANYTHING anymore that sits still for too long. You can't even watch the damn local news anymore without them feeling the need to add fancy animated graphics and sound effects to everything. They didn't used to film everything this way even as little as 20 years ago.

Allman Brothers featuring Zakk Wylde.

Back in the mid-90's when I first got into Zakk Wylde as Ozzy's guitarist as well as having his own southern rock-ish side band called Pride & Glory, I had heard rumors that he did a stand-in one-off stint with the Allman Brothers Band, and rumor had it that supposedly Gregg Allman had considered asking him to join full time. At the time, I was an ENORMOUS Zakk Wylde fan (as well as a big Allman Brothers/southern rock fan obviously), and I thought to myself, "HOW FUCKING COOL WOULD THAT BE!" A little later, I heard more rumors that in fact... NO, Gregg Allman was NOT seriously considering asking Zakk to join the band full time because his style was just WAAAY the fuck too metal for the Allman Brothers.

Anyway, I had never actually heard the recording of that gig, and didn't even know it existed until this morning when I happened across it on the web. After hearing it... I gotta agree with Gregg Allman, Zakk plus Allman Brothers is an odd pairing that doesn't match up well.

You can clearly hear which guitar parts are Zakk. He apparently brought his own rig to the show, because every part contains shitloads of his 90's No More Tears era stereo chorus and univibe.

I think this show was from August 1993. Thank God Warren Haynes was there to play guitar as well. Otherwise that would've probably been a painful and displeasing show for the old-school Brothers fans.

(If you don't know shit about guitar effects pedals or univibraters, you can clearly hear the difference when Zakk comes in on lead at 1:45.)

And speaking of Gregg Allman, he passed away back in May. One of the greatest soulful rock singers ever, and obviously the guy Zakk Wylde himself was trying to copy (or.... rip off) with his own vocal stylings. GBNF!

Nope, that's not Michone from Walking Dead playing a guitar. That's Larry Mitchell. Sounds a little like Satriani but not so much that he sounds like he's TRYING to sound like Satriani.

This guy was doing a clinic at Ken Stanton Music in Marietta tonight, but I couldn't make it.

Strange guitar he's using there. Looks like an old 80's Ibanez Roadstar neck with the peculiar way the headstock is shaped, and the pickguard looks like an Ibanez pickguard, but the body does not look like any Ibanez shape I've ever seen other than an old Roadstar. However... the bridge is not a Roadstar style bridge, and to my knowledge, all of the Roadstar's were cheaper guitars that didn't have the fancy quilted figured tops like that one has.
