Hmm, yeah...   That's a pretty lousy route.

I'm sorry it worked out that way.  Frankly I would have loved to keep the Houston server, if only the pings hadn't been worse for so many players... quadcore for only $50/mo more than the new dualcore.

I have to live with that, but hey, I am grateful for all your work and one can't find a better q2 server than tastyspleen, that much is clear.

Using some call by call DSL providers is still an option, so the situation is not hopeless. ;-)

Hmm.  Could you post some traceroutes?  Note that the system running [EoM] and NAiL is going away.  Those q2 servers will all be moved over to 74.54.186.226 .  So it would be good to have more info on where that +80 is coming from.

Because I'm guessing there may have been some temporary troubles with above.net on the route to tastyspleen.net...

In the traces you just posted, there was a slight difference:

You are correct, there was a temporary issue. Pings are just slightly higher than normal now. ( 7 or 8 )
Including an overall improvement to [EoM] & NAiL ( down about 70 )

update: my traceroute to the new IP starts timing out after the 15th hop but I've tested the servers in game yesterday and all seemed fine, so yay!

Hmmm.  The new server is in the same datacenter as our original server.  So presumably your route is the same to the new server as the original one.  Hopefully the lag was some temporary situation...

  thanks for testing; my ping went from a steady 125-130 to 145 and the netgraph didn't show any red lines, but it looked like a lawn that needed to be mown. I had a hard time landing rails but maybe it was just in my head since I knew the ping went up, but  it did feel a lot like packetloss. Pffft I sure hope it was just temporary lag because nothing kills my q2 mood more than unceasing lag and weapons that won't fire. I'll see how it runs the next couple of days and let you know.

Since the latest IP change, I've noticed LOTS of lag. It's not my internet connection, my connection is just fine. I NEVER EVER had lag before. But since the change, I'm getting these 3 to 5 second periods of lag pretty frequently, like every few minutes. I've also noticed that even though my ping appears to be just about the same (maybe 5-10 ms higher), there seems to be a noticably longer delay from the time I click fire until the railgun actually fires when on TS servers. I've made comments about the lag in games and it seems like everyone else is sufferening from FRALS too. (Frequent Recurring Annoying Lag Syndrome)
