To manually add a server to Gamespy's list press "Insert"

A little window will pop up and you can enter the Game, IP, Port, add to Favorites. I went through the Tastyspleen Server List and entered in the servers I'd usually join

Ok...I might be running an old version of GameSpy Arcade, but mine is 2.0.5.

Click the Game tab, or Ctrl-A, which is add favorite server.

Actually, I'm quite pleased with the hardware.  Even with vanilla, mutant, railz, dm, tourney, ra2, and xatrix servers busy, it's just showing like 92% idle on the CPU.  Which is great.

The hardware is fine... just located in a lousy place.

The hardware shouldn't make any difference in that respect.  And I'm not going back to OSP anyhow.  It's buggy and closed source, which means there's no practical way to fix the bugs.

What are the main things you miss from the old mod?  The weapon stats and such?

It's almost certain we're going to be relocating the server to Dallas, where the old one was.
Sadly, that means the IP will change again... but oh well...
At least the pings should be back to normal.

But hey, if you build it they will come and then you'll never get rid of them.
I bet it's so easy to mess something up or to overlook certain things when you're in the middle of a complete server/forum/database migration and all. I think you've done a good job so far with all the announcements and info text to keep everyone updated. Just take your time chief and also remember to take a few breaks here and there.

What I do is return a bogus player listing that hopefully turns into a readable message (assuming it gets sorted by high scores.)  I also return some info text...
Anyway I don't have a game browser so I haven't been able to see whether it actually ends up looking OK.
Could someone with a browser like ASE or whatever be so kind as to try adding the old vanilla (for example) to your server list, and see what it looks like in your browser?

My ping seems to have stayed the same (120-130) which is fine and probably the best I can get considering it's a transatlantic connection for me. I never really notice it if my ping fluctuates between 120 and 150, only when it goes over 150 and up I start to notice a real difference.

Nah, I just want the rail to feel right and not have a lag before it fires off.  I've just pretty much avoided that server since the change. Probably the main reason I got into Xatrix or Vanilla is for the smoother rail. On the railz server, only way I can hit someone is when they jump because that is how I can gauge the timing. I hear the noise of the jump, I point to where they should land, then I get the frag. Some think I'm exaggerating but I'm really not when I say I can get a euro rail off faster than railz server. Oh well, I didn't think it'd change, but I thought I'd give it a shot as I couldn't remember what all was causing the crashing before. C'est la vive.

bonzai, ping is pretty easy to adapt to.  It just takes a couple maps to warm up to it.

I think it may be possible you are getting so frustrated with it, you may be getting in the way of just learning to play with it.  Look how many HPB's play on TS.  How high did your ping go again?  Anything less then 400 in easily playable. Its not really until about 600+ that you are out of the hunt.  Even then it can be amusing, just extremely hard and unlikely to pull any wins.

Be calm, let your brain adapt, then take pleasure in the game as it is.  Euros can win in NA, and NA can win in Europe.  Ping just shouldnt be made into a big deal, its an excuse.

People seem to complain a lot more in ra2 regarding package loss or even just bumpy netgraphs. I really don't see any difference personally.

So far things are proceeding very slowly and bureucratically with theplanet.

So far:

  - my refund request for the Houston server is still pending

  - they don't have an equivalent server in Dallas for the same price

and poor LPBs,
let's all pray and hope that it gets sorted out. I wouldn't have it any other way than to pummel a converted LPB to HPB, it just doesn't taste right. It ain't tasty.

Status update...

We should be back in Dallas in a week or so.  (Don't know the new IP yet.  But they assured me it WILL be in the Dallas datacenter.)

The new system will be a Xeon 3060 Dual Core Conroe, 4GB RAM, 5TB bandwidth, 2x 250GB HDD.

Two fewer cores than I wanted, but still plenty of juice to run LOTS of q2 servers.  (They offered me an 8-core system (dual quadcore) for $509/month... wish I could have afforded that... but oh well... )
