It's very stable...slow as fuck to boot though. It found video and network by itself, installed XP drivers for the sound card, and same with my TV Tuner, but everything works, and it's fun to jack with too

Yea, 621MB of ram used up with... mIRC and AIM running? Wow.. real nice. I think MS has shot themselves in the foot one too many times with Vista. 3 years of delays, missed deadlines, pulled features..all for a new skin and absurd memory consumption? I'll stick with my non-invasive, free and Free GNU/Linux, thanks.

That's not a true number though, that was after I installed several programs, copied a few large directories over onto that drive, AND it was my first boot. Normal cold boot sits right on about 340MB right now, but I think it's still a little too excessive.

i run windows server 2003 and my cold boot with no start up apps is 85MB and with my start up apps (im/s mouse software etc) is about 280-300MB also i have most of the memory hungry reg settings like disable page executive and keep stuff in ram and assign some ram as disk cache, most of the time it hovers around 450-560MB is use of my 2GB

Right now I have AVG Anti-Virus, Firefox, Trillian, and Winamp running and it is sucking up 211MB.

Heh.. I'm running Xorg, Blackbox, BBkeys, Firefox, Thunderbird, XChat, Gaim, my IDE, several terminals, MySQL server, and Jetty (pure Java http server and servlet container). Current memory usage: 270MB. I'm at about 28MB usage on a cold boot to my desktop. Suck on it, Windows.
