Campers..To Camp or not to Camp..that is the ?

yeah and thanks to a select few who stuck it out through the bad times and believed in xquake, after many a late night of conspiring, plotting and planning they managed to turn a once festering shit hole into a pretty decent place to play and made those bad botboys move on to little admin empathy's

this topic is on camping.  camping is on the pad or weapon.  sniping is entirely different.  killing someone on the pad or a milisecond off it repetitively is lame and does bring the game down, same goes for picking one after another going for a weapon (eg the rl in dm8).  this will also people to be pissed off or even leave, if that isnt bringing the game down, i dunno what is.  camping brings the game to a lower standard in general be it skillz or enjoment.  there are no campers at my server, chat frags are not tolerated, people strive for good frags there, not cheap ones. this brings the level of play up a notch, and the enjoyment of play as well.  perhaps this is why i like playing at >FAS> servers more than others, the same goes for 4u2 servers.

Camping makes what should be fun tedious and frustrating.Anyone who has been spawnrailed repeatedly x times in a row at the same spawnpoint knows all about that.And I certainly do.

A good way for camping could be discouraged is by adopting one Quake3 innovation:starting health at 125. This will give those ambushed at spawnpoints the slight chance of getting away or returning a shot.

It won't make camping stop.You can't fight human nature,but you can work around it...or at least work around spawnrailing.

Run server config mod, set it so you can't spawn kill.

I won't SPAWN camp, but I'll camp in other areas (you who know me, know where I'm talking about).  But my FAVORITE thing to do is what *I* call "anti-camping-camping" where I just wait for the camper to show up.


I won't fire until I see someone go to that spot fire and then move on or else *I* will be countercamped when the camper gets back.
