My sincere condolences to his loved ones and family.

I knew quadz briefly and we exchanged some late night chats from time to time on some interesting topics, whether it be life in general, quake2, players etc. He's a very bright and talented, selfless individual who I wish I would've gotten to know better. I'm truly sorry to hear about this. Best wishes for him and his family.

Oh this is terrible news. I didn't know quadz as well as some of you, but we did work on a few things here and there together. His willingness to help anyone out with anything set him far above the rest of us. We are all lucky to have crossed paths with him.

Hi all,

I came to know quadz just online through the TS Forum for many years. He was a big help to me with Mootown server issues and always gave me good advice.

--Maybe a few of you could appreciate quadz's view on life he shared with me:

"I feel so different from day to day, but try to adhere to a set of core principles."

"I value freedom of speech; freedom of association; individual universal rights (as opposed to collective rights) ;etc."

RIP--quadz will be sorely missed.

Quadz was an ardent supporter of free speech, science, and more power to the individual. There is no one more unbiased and impartial I've ever known. I knew him for 17 years, and I'll miss him.

Just heard the news. For someone that I've never met in person and only interacted with online I feel that he made such a huge impact on my life. I'm in tears.

What can I say about quadz. I feel like he was my biggest cheerleader and mentor. My internet dad. He genuinely cared about me and my well being. I spent all my waking teenage years playing Quake 2. I grew up playing this game and with this community.

He was kind, generous, and always left me feeling glad I called or messaged him that day.

Something he said to me once and has always stuck with me after another tastyspleen forum dispute (lol):
"Illegitimi non carborundum" (don't let the bastards grind you down

)

I'm no longer active on Quake 2 but I was for a long time. Mirc and the quake 2 servers were my home. I was so lonely and really struggling to find myself back then in the good old Quake 2 days. It was many years ago since I spoke to him and told him how I was doing. I hope he knows what a great impact he made on my life.

Quadz was smart, selfless, dedicated, and wise. Wise in how he built a community around the game with the right balance of order and open chaos (e.g. rivalries) to keep everyone coming back. Cheers to Quadz!

I had the pleasure of sharing bleary eyed, low sleep Dennys with Quadz (and R1Q2 Rich) at Quakecon. Thanks to Deathstalker for reaching out after a decade to let me know this sad news!

Came back to play on TS a year ago when the pandemic hit after a long hiatus. I planned on giving Quadz a big thank you message and hoping to see how everything was going on here! I never got to doing that though. I would go for random walks throughout the years, and I would always have the random name "Quadz" in my head. Occasionally checking up to see what he would post on here, through my phone, during my tough times. It gave me a lot to think about. His funny or serious posts I would always enjoy reading. I appreciate Quadz for having these servers up, because this is my only favorite game.

Holy shit man, I just got an email from Focalor about this. I had to read it a few times for my brain to even register the words.

It's been many years since I've been around Tastyspleen, but I've checked up a few times since then just to see how things were going. Quadz passing was never a thought that ever came to mind. The guy was almost deity-like to those that have been around since the beginning like I have. Back then when I was a young teen causing trouble, he carried himself with such empathy, grace, and integrity. We all owe him so much, he spent real effort, time, and money to keep this community going for all of us. He is irreplaceable and will surely be missed.

My sincerest condolences to his family. I understand the nature of his death is a personal matter, but was there any warning? I know he was relatively young, did he have any health issues?

Like many mentioned - I also did grow up with Q2 and at some point was very active on the servers and sort of active on the Tastyspleen forum. I do visit DM from time to time, but unfortunately less and less, got a 2 year old kid and shit, less time, but I do remember Quadz very well, what an awesome guy and kudos for building this community. I wonder what happened and if we can help his family somehow as well.

Yes, this was an amazing individual. To implement, maintain, and pay for this community on his own accord without complaint or contemp, but with only generosity, helpfulness, and patience makes for a remarkable character. A rare person, a truly altruistic man and a rare gift to this world.

I did not know him at all save for a few very minor interactions, in one of which he did give me some nice sounds to use in-game, but I knew from the way he ran this forum and his servers that he was all those things that I have mentioned. I don't know if he was a religious person, but I don't believe God exists -I know God exists and he seems to take the best of us early.

If his family is in need then perhaps our benificance is to be directed to them rather than these servers. I do not know what the man would have wanted for his legacy and this is a tremendous legacy.

Sad news indeed.

If anyone has access to the existing infrastructure I am willing to help fund/administer it - the only thing more sad than quadz passing away would be if we lost this forum and the servers and community.
