I have some truly unfortunate news. Our good friend, Quadz, has recently passed away. He frequently played on the servers and posted often on the forums here, and I felt everyone deserved to know.

Quadz was a big part of this community in many ways and he contributed so much over the years. Whether it was helping resolve server issues, offering his knowledge on someone's project, or just giving some feedback or advice on a topic, he was always there to lend a hand. Some of us knew him better than others, but I'd wager to say that his work has affected, in one way or another, just about everyone involved with the tastyspleen community.

While I mostly knew Quadz via online, I did get the opportunity to meet him in-person at a few Quakecons, and I will always be thankful for that. Over the years we've kept in touch and continued to chat and play pick-up games every week. I will miss those times and I will miss my friend.

If anyone wants to share a story, please feel free. Thanks everyone, and I'm sorry.

Quadz is likely the one person who has spurred and enabled me in the direction of my life more than anyone, and I don't think I'm alone in that regard. Endless generosity backed up by equally endless humbleness. I hope he knew everything he did for others. I cannot express how much I'm missing him already.

While I did not know him personally, his actions & gratitude painted a picture of someone I appreciated & respected.
This person did more for the Q2 community than anyone I ever knew.
I hate to just talk about the gaming aspect, but this game would probably be gone without his efforts.
I am going to miss him greatly.

my deepest condolences to his family and friends he will surely be missed i always enjoyed playing on his servers and seeing his posts he was one of the good ones for sure

this was definitely a hard hit to us as a community i am gonna miss having him around for sure

We didn't see eye to eye on many things and I was a monstrous prick at times in years gone by but even after all that you still gave me the time of day. Thankyou sir Quadz

That is incredibly sad to hear! A legend out of any Quake community, certain had a huge impact on many gamers' lives including my own. Never knew anything more about the mystery that is Quadz, but my condolences to his family and close friends. I hope someone is able to give us all a glimpse into who the man himself was and give him a proper send-off.

This is devestating..

Such a great friend, gamer, supporter. The amount of patience this man always had for all us dickheads was something to be admired!

Guy was a true legend. Ive lost quite a few gamer buddies the last couple of years, but this one i wasnt expecting. Thank you so much for being so selfless and such a driving force in the quake community as we all know it now.

You will forever be someone I will think of every time i see, touch, or talk about this game. Such a part of my childhood and young adult life. This shots for you buddy!

Definitely. As anyone can tell from my ridiculous post count, I don't spend too much time too many other places on the internet. This place has been my "home" on the internet since I first found it back in 2007. I'm sort of open about things in my life, but not everything for various reasons, and it's been a place where I can go and get away from everything else in the world and just relax and BE ME. And without Quadz being the kind of person who valued freedom, reason, and individuality over all else, and all of the hours of dedication and WORK that went into the building of all of it, this place would not have been all that it is.

I always envied the man a little bit. I never said it to him, but I always viewed him as the kinda guy who had it all. A great career, a family, he was really smart, well read, and one of the most even tempered people I've ever met online or off, which is a rare and beautiful quality in my experience. I respected him probably far more than I ever told him.

He was unquestionably unique and valuable, and while I know I'll never be 1/10th the man he was, his memory, all that he was, and everything he ever did inspires me to try to be a better person.

Love and respect to his family, friends, and loved ones.

We love you forever Quadz.
