I witnessed one of those "you can't fix stupid" moments today. I am pulling up to an intersection and I am going to make a right turn. I see a car on the right shoulder of the road. As I approach the intersection I see two guys and a girl coming up to the car with a gas can. The girl is carrying the gas can (I don't why the guys were not carrying anything). I see the girl start to open the gas cap, but before she can open the gas cap she has to take cigarette out of her hand and put it in her mouth. With the cigarette in her mouth, I see her lean over and start pouring the gas. Her head looks to be within a foot of where she is pouring.

I made my turn, I looked back to see if I was going to see a cloud of smoke but nothing. This lady has survived to be stupid another day.

I think you can throw a lit cig into a bucket of gas and it will just go out. I've never tested it, but I think you can suck real hard on the cig and expose it to gas vapor and still not get a flash fire. Strike a bic, match, or get a static spark and poof - there she goes if the air/fuel mixture is ripe. Gas vapor is a very dangerous substance.
