...49ers...   Heck, they could even beat G.B. at their place.

Funny thing... turns out they won't have to. :D NY impressed the shit out of me. I didn't think their defense would be able to glue themselves to the receivers like they did. Took away most of Aaron Rodgers options all game long. Passing couldn't get it done, running couldn't get it done, half the time that Pierre-Paul guy was creating an impassible wall at the line when he'd get his hands up to swat it down. Not that Green Bay was at their best though. Lotta dropped passes, shit that was easily caught earlier in the season. Packers fuckin' choked, man. :mrdead:

This game was not as close as the score made it out to be.  GB got two TD's after bad calls that would have stopped them.

Eli looked good, he has been playing well all season.  Eli will have to play well in SF because I doubt NY will be able to run on SF.
The key will be if SF can run on NY.  If NY can stop SF's running game they can win because I think Eli will put up some points through the air.

It's too bad the Manning brothers old man wasn't as good of a QB. I've seen reruns of old Saints games with Archie Manning behind center. Dude got the shit kicked out of him week in and week out. They allowed a lot more dirty hits on players back then, but I dunno if it would be so accurate to say that the game was more violent and psychically punishing in those days. Pro football players seem to be lot more muscular and lean nowadays, maybe faster and more powerful too. I guess it just depends on the individual player in question. Guys like Archie Manning and Bart Starr weren't very big at all, and Bart Starr looked more like a beer bellied redneck truck driver than a quarterback... whereas guys like Larry Csonka, Refrigerator Perry, and Jim Brown were gigantic human battering rams.

Yea, Archie ran for his life most of the time as a Saint, but one year I'm pretty sure they were #1 in the NFL in offense.....and dead last in defense. I was at the Ole Miss Homecoming game when they played Houston in 1970 (I was 10).  I have the program to prove it, along with many autographs signed beside the player's respective pictures. I was a guest of a teacher that graduated the previous year, and she knew all the players. The one autograph I didn't get was Archie's, because his arm was broken (both bones) in his left arm just before halftime. I remember watching Robert Newhouse from Houston (played for the Cowboys for years) put on a show. At the time, Archie was a roll-out passer who ran as often as he threw...and he was a shifty runner!  He looked like a big quarterback for the time period.  But like you said, all the players now are bigger, faster and stronger.  Archie Who? That will take some old timers to the way-back machine....... :D

Well baseball had their "thing" with steroids, I don't doubt that football players got into it as well. And with such a long off-season, I suspect it's possible to still use them for those 4 or 5 months while training hard to pack on some muscle, then stop in enough to time to fully detox and pass the piss tests they give.

Joe Pa... has left the building.

http://news.yahoo.com/fired-penn-state-coach-joe-paterno-dead-85-151950813--spt.html

Man, what a sad fucking way to go. Last year at this time, as far as college football goes, the man was a living fucking legend revered by everyone involved with college football throughout the nation. Sure, Penn State football basically sucked, but it's a competitive sport and you can't be top dog every year. It was like, what, 3 months ago or so that out of the blue he was fired because of some kiddie-fucking thing that he didn't even do? I guess the stress and resulting depression from it really affected his immune system. Shit, football was all the man ever did and ever WANTED to do, then the rug gets ripped out from under him and he really has nothing left to live for. Fuckin' sad way to be at the end. Dying sucks no matter what the circumstances are, but it probably sucks a little MORE when you get fired from Penn State after being there since fucking dirt was invented.

Anyway, moving on now...

I got 300 on Giants over the 49ers as well as 300 on Patriots over the Ravens today. Now you watch some crazy shit happen and the 49ers and Ravens both win and fuck me out of 600 bucks in one afternoon. Like I said several posts back (I think), Harbaugh Bowl part II. That was my first instinct anyway. But then I look at New York kicking ass all the way through from the wildcard round on a hot streak and I see shades of Green Bay's good fortune last year. Oh well, I got a 50/50 chance with either game, so I guess technically I have better odds of breaking even than losing on both tickets. I'm hoping both are winners, I kinda need the money for some things.

I agree... There's no telling how truly involved he was with that shit, I already thought that to begin with... but that goes for passing judgment on either side of it. It's now even more impossible to truly judge the guy though, and I agree, taking the 1 thing that was his life in entirety correlated with the downturn of his health. There probably wasn't anything else to live for in his eyes, pennstate football was life to him, and he was in the pinnacle of it........until 2-3 months ago. So yeah, inopportune circumstances to die, I thought the same thing.

How about Patriots (yea, I already know they won) vs 49er's? That's what I'm hoping for; but Eli seems to be in a zone. Dang Saints could have been playing in this game in the dome   :grrrr: :grrrr: :grrrr:

adz1La, what do you think of Spagnola as Defensive coordinator? I kinda like it - if he can get some four man rush for a change.

I have seen first hand someone who was nowhere near death, die in three days once they lost the will to live.  Your mental state has a huge effect on the rest of your body.

Very sad how this all ended.  :raincloud:

Two great games today.  They ended up the way I thought they would, except I thought NE would win a little easier.  In many ways the Ravens outplayed NE.
I pretty sure NE will be favored in the SB, but NY seems to be on a roll.  I think that NY will have to put a lot of pressure on Brady and NY will have to put up at least 24 points to win.

Man, and they call this gambling! Not bad for a days... uh... work? :D Might be able to pay off some bills from xmas now.

I bet on NY, but I was still silently rooting for SF. Would've been nice to see a new QB get a shot at the Lombardi trophy. I still think it would've been NICER to see Houston (a team thats never won a superbowl or even been to one) go all the way and bring a Superbowl win home. But oh well. Next year should be even MORE competitive across the board, I think. I still think the lockout and short-as-shit training camp had a lot to do with why some teams didn't do as well.

I think Miami got a new head coach from the Green Bay staff. Philbin or someone. Was Green Bays offensive coordinator. Maybe he can get some shit straightened out in Miami and help them get a Superbowl win one of these years. Fuck, they had Marino back in the 80s-90s and still never got one.

Miami actually played pretty well after starting 0-7.  They won 6 of their last 9, two of the losses were 3 point losses @NY Giants and @NE.
Miami is not a championship team, but I won't be surprised if they make the wildcard next year.
