Yeah, if the line can protect Matt Stafford worth a damn. It's gonna be a while before we get another QB like Stafford back at UGA. Aaron Murray looked like he was coming along pretty good last year, but this year will be the real litmus test of his progression with AJ Green gone. They start off against Boise State this weekend, a pretty tough team the past 2 years. Most of their games are gonna be at home in Athens, so maybe I'll get to see a bunch of them in person. I was hoping I could get a free skybox to the game on Saturday, but they're filled up so no dice. Hopefully someone can score us some cheap tickets before Friday night.

almost for about this tid bit..not sure how many of you heard about Jeremy Shockey saving his fellow teammates life..wild shit.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-panthers-shockey

post: CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Jeremy Shockey(notes) has come to the rescue of Panthers teammate Ben Hartsock(notes) by performing the Heimlich maneuver at the team’s cafeteria at Bank of America Stadium.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon after Hartsock began choking on a piece of meat. Hartsock says he signaled for help when he couldn’t breathe, and after one teammate was unable to perform the Heimlich, Shockey took over and succeeded.

Hartsock joked about the incident Tuesday, saying “we had to call in the reliever and that was Jeremy Shockey. Don’t let the tattoos fool you, he’s a good Samaritan. He knows how to administer the Heimlich.”

Shockey declined to discuss the incident.

I ain't going. They're actually playing it at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Nah, no thanks. They want about 200-300 bucks a ticket for decent seats. Fuck that shit. Only tickets below 100 are way way way the fuck up at the roof on the endzones. I ain't about to pay that much for a college football game that's merely the first game of the year against some bunch of midwestern fruity bastards from Idaho stupid enough to paint their grass blue. Gonna sit here on my nice comfy leather sofa with some pizza and cold beer.

College football season begins! Hallelujah!

I should've put some serious money on the (#2)Alabama v Kent State game earlier today. I could've made easy money on that one, it was pretty much a shoe-in for Alabama to win. Final score of 48-7. Alabama's defense is still looking excellent this year, probably a big reason why they pinned down the #2 rank. The offense is looking pretty good too, although the score of the game doesn't really tell the whole story. I guess they haven't decided exactly who to use as the main QB yet with Greg McElroy gone. They flipped back and forth with AJ McCarron and Phil Sims doing about equal time at QB, McCarron stepping in first (so I guess Coach Saban is leaning more towards McCarron). They threw about 5 or 6 picks though, not good at all. They're just lucky they were playing against Kent State, a team that couldn't really capitalize on the turnovers and move the ball well. If they're gonna shoot for another BCS title, they better get that shit under control from here on out. I noticed on at least one occasion Bama's QB was staring down the intended receiver who was pretty well covered, all the while he had the tight end wide-assed-open in the secondary with no one even thinking about covering him, and he STILL decides to make the risky throw to the WR which gets picked off. Pretty sloppy, Bama.

I did go ahead and put $400 on (#19)UGA to beat (#5)Boise State tonight. I think the payout's at about 1.25 for UGA and a little less than 0.7 for Boise, so if I win, I think I should be looking at about a $500 payday. ;D I'm not too confident UGA can pull it off though. I rarely lose when I put money on a game. I think I've lost maybe twice out of about 20 games in past 2 years. Hopefully my good luck continues. Shouldn't hurt my wallet at all if I do lose, I can probably make it all back and then some if I spread out small bets on about 10 games next weekend which should be pretty easy to do with both NCAA and NFL going on by next weekend.

Also, if anyone's got Dish Network, they usually do a free preview of the NFL RedZone channel the first week of the season. They simulcast all of the live games as any team gets to the opposing 20 yd line or have a scoring play. Just next weekend only, and only on Dish Network. Should be the channel directly above NFL Network when you look through the guide screen.

Adren,

Those women you posted were almost enough to convert me into a LSU fan  :eyecrazy:

They are SEC so I will always pull for them, except for when they play Fla.

Florida played Florida Atlantic, of course they won. :D Weren't very many good matchups this weekend. A lot of really uneven matchups and nearly all of the teams that should've won did end up winning. Baylor v TCU was a decent game, probably the best upset of week 1. Oregon and LSU was probably the best game, but I was busy watching my Dawgs roll over and play dead after halftime so I didn't get to see it. Lost my first bet of the season.  :ohreally: UGA's Aaron Murray is a good QB, but he isn't exactly on par with the SEC elite as of late. The SEC has been stacked all around with stellar QB's the past 10 years, and he's just not showing himself to be able to handle the ball well in the big games. He does pretty good against the weaker teams. I remember last years homecoming game against Vanderbilt when he stomped them for a complete shutout, that was a pretty impressive game. Then again, he had AJ Green down the field to throw to as well. Most of their games are gonna be at home in Sanford Stadium in Athens, so hopefully the familiar turf will give them more of an incentive to win. Looks like what they're doing this year is a carbon copy of what they did last year: playing balls to the wall with the pedal to the metal in the first quarter and then running out of stamina to finish a game strong. Might be the final curtain call for Coach Mark Richt if he can't whip their asses into fighting condition before too long, he's already on thin ice.

I was watching the Hawaii v Colorado game a few minutes ago and usually Hawaii looks more like a WAC team, and I don't know too much about Colorado yet, but Hawaii looked like they were riding up and down the field on fucking rocket skates. Usually the late-night Hawaii games aren't that interesting to watch, but it might be worth sitting up for this year.

Anybody care to make BCS Title predictions yet? I can't really pick just one at this point, but Alabama and Oklahoma are looking pretty good. Gonna be a fun year regardless.

LSU showed the country that the SEC is still the top conference. They appeared to wear Oregon down in the second half.  Other conferences may have a couple of good teams, but none are as strong top-bottom as the SEC.

Florida's win yesterday really doesn't mean anything, it is hard to get any feel about where they are talent wise.  They have a tougher than usual schedule this year.  They have some talented players but most are inexperienced and I'm not sure how much depth they have.  :???:

God damn, I don't think Joe Paterno (Penn State head coach) will EVER retire. You have 2 linebackers clothesline his fragile ass on the sidelines and he STILL shows up to fucking coach the game. :eyecrazy:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-pennst-paterno

Read some of the comments people left too, that's really why I posted this anyway. My favorite is probably:
Quote
Joe loves wearing his Depends....and says, "They gave me a lifetime supply"

When he got only 1 case of Depends Joe said, "What do you think they're telling me?"

Maybe I'm out of step with the mainstream on this, but I don't think they should have ANY rankings until teams have played at least 3-4 games.  This preseason ranking stuff is crap.   :rocketleft:

Yes and no. No because they have start the season off with all the ranks filled to figure out where the rankings go from there, and a lot of that has to do with how the team did last year along with the polls that predict how they will do this year. And yes because, like I just said, it's determined by "polls" and not necessarily by who wins the most games.
