Yeah, last month was a pretty good month. I forget exactly what the number of wins was for June, maybe 20, but I know they only lost 9. I've got a schedule I printed out taped up on the beer fridge in the basement, been putting green X's on all the wins, red X's on the losses. Pretty cool when you can keep the L's on the month in the single digits.
We play Philly next for a 3 game series. If we can sweep em like we did Colorado in the past 4 games, we'll take the #1 spot in the division, but I don't see that happening. We'll maybe get 1 win out of the next 3 IF we are lucky. The Mets are behind us about 6 or 7 games right now and they handled us pretty easily last series we played. We ended up winning the last game of that 3 game series by 1 run only because their boneheaded relief pitcher got called for a balk in the ninth inning with 2 outs and a man on 3rd. That was nothing but dumb luck.
I'm starting to feel a little more enthused about Atlanta's ability to bat again after having such a hard time getting people on base for the past month or two. But I still don't think Atlanta has as good of a lineup as other teams. Seems like we always fall short and make stupid mistakes when playing the other good teams. Honestly, I think the Mets probably deserve to be in 2nd in the NL East more than Atlanta does. Jose Reyes was stealing the shit out of bases every time he got on, wasn't a damn thing the pitcher or catcher could do about it. They weren't getting huge hits against us, mostly singles, but they were doing it consistently. And then at the same time, some of the batters that were normally hitting pretty well went on a slump during that series. But... looks like they're starting to come out of it now. Freddie Freeman's been knocking them out of the park regularly. Brian McCann can usually be counted on to get at least 1 homerun per game. Even Dan Uggla's finally been managing to find the fuckin' ball for once.
Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best for the next 3 games, but I won't get my hopes up and expect them to win any of them.

HOE
LEE
SHIT!
Dude at the Rangers game last night flips over a guard rail trying to catch a ball tossed into the stands, falls about 20 feet, cracks his head and DIES!
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Man-dies-after-falling-out-of-stands-at-Rangers-?urn=mlb-wp11900
Man... that sucks a bunch. Here's the instant replay. Looks like maybe he tried to stick his back leg out and keep himself from going over the rail by catching his heel on the under side of the seat behind him... except they're FOLDING seats... yeah, not gonna work. Poor guy. And his kid's right there watching the whole thing.
The video isn't gory or anything, all you can see is him falling and disappearing behind the outfield wall.

What the fuck? With the amount of time it took him to trip, roll, get back to his feet, start running like hell again, and slide into 3rd... he
might've
had enough to time to run an inside the park homerun had he kept running at a full clip the whole way around. He might've gotten lucky with a wide pitch from 3rd to home or a bobble at 3rd. Anyway, funny video.

Holy shit, WHAT A GAME! If you missed tonights Braves-Pirates game, you missed a fuckin' DOOZIE! Pirates get 2 runs top of the 1st. Then Pirates get 1 run top of the 2nd. Braves come back in the bottom of the 3rd to tie it with 3 runs. It was deadlocked from then on. All game long the home plate umpire was making total shit calls on the strike zone, calling strikes against Braves batters on shit that was no where near the zone. I dunno who the hell taught this fucker what the strike zone was, must've been Helen Keller. He was knelt down closer to the batter the whole game and didn't even his line of sight over ANY PART of the plate, so anything a little outside of the zone on the away side of the batter he was calling a strike. Braves outfielder Nate McClouth was up to bat and he called a strike against him that was well below his knees. He turned away from the ump and must've muttered something, because he instantly tossed him from the game for it. He wasn't even arguing or in his face, the umpire was just being a difficult prick. At that point, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez went out to talk to the ump and he TOSSED HIM OUT TOO!!! Wasn't even arguing the call and getting in his face enough to warrant getting tossed.
Anyway, game goes past 9 innings. Brian McCann strains an oblique muscle. Now he's on the disabled list for the next 2 weeks I guess. That's fucking GREAT NEWS!Â
Especially now when their NL wild card spot is in jeopardy as other teams close in on them.
Game goes on some more. Both teams run slap through every relief pitcher in the pen. Both teams ended up having to use relief pitchers that normally only pitch one inning to pitch 3 or 4 innings. Game CONTINUES to drag on completely deadlocked since the 3rd inning. At some point in the 15th or 16th inning (about 5+ hours into the game now), the umpire keeps making shitty calls on the strike zone while the Braves are pitching, so Braves relief pitcher Christian Martinez just turns to face 2nd base and shakes his head, the umpire takes his mask off and stares him down as if he's daring him to make one more move so he can eject him too. Anyway, he gets his shit together and continues pitching.
Game goes on until the bottom of the 19th inning, about 7 1/2 hrs of baseball played. Julio Lugo hits a single. Next, Jordan Shaeffer hits a single and moves Lugo over to 3rd. Next at bat is relief pitcher Scott Proctor who NEVER EVER hits. He hits one towards shortstop, shortstop throws it to home, and then...
...probably
THE SINGLE WORST CALL I'VE EVER SEEN IN ANY BASEBALL GAME IN ALL OF BASEBALL HISTORY!
CLEEEEEEEEEARLY the catcher tags him out before he gets anywhere near home plate, and the stupid fucking umpire calls him safe and Braves win it 4 to 3 in the 19th inning. I've been looking on ESPN.com hoping to find a replay of it to show, but they don't have anything so far. If you get a chance to watch SportCenter tomorrow, check out the highlights of this game. You'll agree, it's RI-GODDAMN-DICULOUS! I mean I don't mind the Braves winning, and I understand that sometimes blown and totally shitty calls are made on "close plays"... but this shit wasn't even close. The umpire was RIGHT THERE! If he can't see that shit, he doesn't need to be a home plate ump anymore. That shit was inexcusable. Fucking pisses me off too. It was a great game played by both teams just slugging it out for that long, would've been nice to see how much longer it might've went and who would've won it fair and square.

I guess. Man I was SCREAMING at my TV all damn night long, that asshole was missing strikes left and right and then calling strikes when they were balls. And then some bitch had her little girl at the game who kept screaming to the top of her lungs ALL NIGHT LONG "Let's go Pirates!", that shit got on my nerves at about the 9th inning, and she did it ALL THE WAY UNTIL THE 19th INNING
NON FUCKING STOP
! I was wanting to call the tv station and tell them to cut off whatever mic they had that was catching that little shits screaming. It was driving me INSANE!

I think he was thinking, "God dammit, this shit was supposed to be over at around 10pm and its now after 2am and I wanna go home so I can take my cholesterol pill and go to bed. Eh.... 6 feet from home plate... close enough... SAFE!"
I hope whoever is in charge of who umpires these MLB games tells this guy to go find another job. At this point, it's very possible that one game
just might
mean the difference for one of these two teams making it to the playoffs. Pittsburgh has come back with a vengeance and is in a good position to win the wildcard spot if they can keep winning. Good for them too, as far as I know, they haven't had a shot at a World Series in a long time.
