if it worked with config edits on ffa servers

you might just have to delete any .cfg files in the opentdm folder

Well the only catch is that I have to join a server of that game "type" in order to not have the mouse bug.  If I loaded the game as "opentdm" but went to "rails," the mouse would stick.  Vice versa for rails to opentdm.  I guess the bug is that once the mouse has initialized once, if you change mods everything reloads a second time.

I think that a .cfg file will be generated every time even if I continue to delete them...I never put an aprconfig.cfg file in opentdm but there is one in there now...I just made a blank folder so that the "game" would exist....it wrote the config itself.

I'd think that creating an autoexec.cfg would also do the trick. First, in your baseq2 dir create a .txt or .cfg file with just the important video settings and other control stuff.  Then also in baseq2 create a blank autoexec.cfg file with the line: exec yourtextfile.txt (or exec yourtextfile.cfg)
This way it should always use those settings and overwrite them in other cfg's aswell upon starting the game or switching mods.
Anyway, as a workaround you could copy a "default".cfg and aprconfig.cfg with your preferred settings to all your mod folders.

Just an update, I managed to produce a statically linked binary yesterday.  The Makefile has been cleaned up significantly and now includes the option `BUILD_STATIC` which defaults to `NO.`  Anyone can now produce a static binary by simply changing that option to `YES.`

I'm working on fixing save-games, which were apparently broken years ago by Maniac.  Once I have those working, I'll try to address the mouse fix for the `vid_restart` issue, and then I'll put a pre-compiled version up for download on the project website.

Cheers,

Jay

Awesome!!

I do have a question for you...

I have noticed a significant difference in sensitivity between 3.21 (Fruitz of Dojo) and your version of aprq2.  Are there any commands to get the input similar to 3.21, or should I just learn to adjust to aprq2?  I'm not sure how best to explain it, but in 3.21, the sensitivity seems the same no matter how I move the mouse and at what speed.  Fine tracking moves the crosshair the same distance as a quick jerk but covering the same distance on the mousepad.  And on the contrary, in aprq2, if I am firing hyper or chain, it makes it more difficult to quickly change direction, when I try to track a player right to left with the crosshair while firing, it simply can't keep up...

In aprq2, when I do a quick jerk for flick shots or whatever, it just flips me around backwards way too quickly.

For reference, I use sensitivity 5.555 and fov 120 in 3.21.  I had to go all the way down to 1.xxx to get a comparable feel in aprq2, but still cannot avoid the jerkiness in quick mouse movements, and the lack of movement from fine input.

I might just have to fiddle with the DPI settings in my control panel...I use a Razer Copperhead (2000 DPI), running at 1600 dpi.

Hm, I haven't looked at the mouse handling code at all yet.  My AprQ2 port uses libSDL for input handling, tho, .. and I have no idea what Fruitz of the Dojo uses.

I basically plan on dropping in Quake2World's mouse handling code (also libSDL-backed) to resolve the weird "90' of movement after vid_restart" bug.  Maybe that'll fix the sensitivity issues you're seeing as well?  Just curious, have you tried Q2W and does that mouse handling suit you?

Lowering the FOV seemed to help a little bit....while playing this morning on DM I noticed that enemy weapons are not shown...just looks like a shotgun all the time.  Is there a cvar for that?

More than likely, the player model in question simply didn't support "vweaps."  Or did you see this on male/female/cyborg opponents?

As far as I know, the vweap support works as in 3.21.

http://ir.tastyspleen.net/files/brightskinpak.zip

try unpacking this, then renaming it to pak9.pak and putting it in your quake2/baseq2 folder

it has the vwep models required in it.

Hm, I compiled R1Q2 on Linux a while ago, and it mostly worked (sound and input were flaky).  There's no way to get anticheat working on Linux, tho -- like fundamentally it's just not possible -- so given that, there's really little incentive to use it.  AprQ2 is a much more feature-rich client and has R1Q2 Protocol 35 support.

The same packages you need to build it dynamically.  You can see the Ubuntu dependencies here:

Should get you there.
