You're welcome!  Enjoy :)

When I get another Macbook next week, I'll look into providing a statically linked build so that I can make a .dmg for folks like Erik.  Shouldn't be *too* difficult.

Edit: btw, I fixed those deprecation warnings a few minutes ago.

So does this mean that I can/should give it a try, or just wait?

On the subject of the MacBook Pro, I know that it's the way technology works, but man in 2003 I paid $2600 for what was then a top of the line 15" G4 Powerbook.  Now look what that $$ can get me.

I will say that the Powerbook was the longest lasting computer I ever had, until I dropped it on concrete in the parking garage while in college (used it for 6 years).  It still ran after that, but eventually something went awry with the wiring inside, and applying pressure to certain parts of the case caused the display to show static lines, the lines mirrored to an attached display, which was strange.  I used it as a desktop computer for about a year until it was a lost cause and I had to buy another Mac.

Error: Couldn't load conchars.pcx

HOW IS THAT A BIG ENOUGH ERROR THAT THE GAME WONT START >_> fucking fail... need to reboot and change my quake directory not to include double bangs cause linux sees them as previous commands and so i cant copy all my files from my r1q2 directory off my windows drive right now...

went with all the files from the q2kicker, aaaaaand... i still dont see how conchars.pcx is a critical file for the game to start >_> SHOULD be either a really easy fix, or a really fucking complicated fix

No reboot is needed here.

You can escape metacharacters on the command line.

Either put backslashes in front of the bangs, or enclose the filename in single quotes.

ls -l \!\!Quake2
ls -l '!!Quake2'

So does this mean that I can/should give it a try, or just wait?

You can / should give it a try, especially if you've already got MacPorts installed.  But if you can't or don't want to, I'll try to carve out a couple hours next week to make a statically linked binary -- that's really the biggest challenge in giving you a .dmg file or something similar.

Vae, no Quake2 engines will start if they can't find conchars.pcx.  Without that file, it can't even render the console, and thus the game is crippled.

What distribution and version are you running?  Sound and input work really well here (Ubuntu 10.04).

#! statler

its probably just a cvar set :) i basically dont know much about aprq2 so i took jehar's q2kicker autoexec.cfg and ripped it to pieces, but i left all the client cvars alone for the most part except like resolution and fps...

mouse4 and mouse5 dont work though D: sad day... and the other input seems kinda skippy for some reason

I would have been more brutal than Jay was. I though Vae was completely off course by his posts about his problem with the q2kicker script and his problems with Linux since he already has a thread about that and you come in just flaming. I would have deleted everything not involving the topic, including my post about you guys hijacking it.

That's why I kind of leaped at him, as he was a bit off course and is practically always begging for help ever since he started using linux.  And of course for obvious reasons...it is Vae, afterall.  He flames every single person and yet, wants peoples help figuring his shit out haha.
