food for thought..aaron rodgers wins super bowl...favre's legacy diminished?

I dunno. Green Bay appeared to lose their mojo half way through that NFC title game against Chicago. It was like someone flipped a switch and they lost all of their effectiveness. I expected them to beat the shit out of Chicago even worse than they did to Atlanta, but Chicago had a real chance to win that one at the end. I think Big Ben and the Steelers will prevail.

Amen foc...   lock thread.

Eh, I should've made that a conditional statement and said: " I think Big Ben and the Steelers will prevail IF..."

IF Aaron Rodgers and the Packers continue playing conservatively. What I saw in that game against Chicago, they started out being very aggressive on offense and going after a lot of 20 yard passing attempts. Later in the game, Rodgers was mainly attacking through the air for 10 yard passes or less when they weren't running it. I think that's how they managed to run up the score on Atlanta so bad, they went after larger chunks of yardage consistently. If you've got a really accurate throw and receivers who can cut quickly enough, that can usually spell success by stretching out a man coverage defense strategy which forces them to mix in more zone coverage and abandon the 4 and 5 man rushes.

Anyway, I'm not really playing favorites. I like both teams. I don't think I'm even gonna put any money on this game. Hopefully it'll end up being a close, high scoring affair and fun to watch.

OCHOCINCO CHANGED HIS NAME BACK TO JOHNSON!  :yessign: :yessign: :yessign: :yessign: :yessign: :yessign: :yessign:

Wow, It only took their franchise quarterback threatening to leave to get shit done. Personally I hope Carson Palmer sticks with Cincinnati and Chad JOHNSON gets the fuck outta Ohio for good. Although I'd settle for Cincinnati keeping him as long as he shuts the fuck up and plays his position like THEY PAY HIM TO FUCKING DO.

Agreed.

I don't see Carson staying, but don't see him retiring as well.  He loves the game and is a good leader.  The Mike Brown way of doing things is what dooms the team.  With so many poor seasons, the same coaching staff is in place.  They need to get rid of the O coordinator.

Once, the Carson chaos was made public, you would have thought WW3 started here in Cincinnati.

I can't really say how good Carson Palmer is. From what I've seen all season, he can't do shit with the ball and he sucks. Then again, maybe it's his receivers faults for not playing at a high enough level. Anyone who signs him should make sure they have a suitable backup QB just in case they get 3 or 4 games into the season and realize that he will never work out.

You are right.  I am not sure anymore either.

Other QB's and the NFL media, talk about him as being an elite QB, but with his record it isn't clear.  Almost like Boomer, once he left and was in a new system, he was able to play better.  I think Carson, had the skill to be in that elite status, but is in a system that doesn't allow it.  He has played 9 years with Cincinnati, two playoff runs, the first was his best year ever, but his knee was destroyed by a Steelers line man.  The second was like year and they were beat up by the Jets.  Yet no changes have happened to the coaches, nor the mind set.

They were a run team last year, which got them to the playoffs.  Then they pick up TO and try to be a passing team.  They didn't even try to mix it up, then the games where they did run a bunch, they typically won.  I think the front office, knows that passing sells tickets and makes people happy.  Mainly, when you have TO in the mix.  Just cause you add a single receiver, you shouldn't change the whole team scheme.

He is acting like a man, wanting out of a bad marriage.  Telling his wife, "Fuck you can keep the house, as long as I just get the fuck outta here!".

Only time I saw him smile this year, was when they were crushing the Chargers and he was using all the rookies and new receivers.  Chad and TO were out and he looked like he use to play.

Another year...

It seems like green bay only knew how to pass, and they kicked the bears ass like that, but the Steelers probably aren't the team you wanna play your one-sided game with.  So can green bay switch it up, can the steelers stop them?

I'm hoping green bay wins, but the packers will have to come up with something else besides just passing, and that might not be up to snuff.

I've watched Pittsburgh a lot and they are pretty tough to run against, especially if you try to draw it up the middle when one or both of the safeties are cheating up towards the line. 8 times out of 10 in those cases, if the run doesn't come from up the middle immediately, Palomalu is sprinting his way around the right side of the line looking for a short pass receiver out of the backfield or looking to steamroll the QB before he gets it off. That's one reason why I'd like to see more scrambling QB's in the NFL like Roethlisberger. Sure, Vick is stupid fast, but he isn't really big and tough enough to take the hits and keep playing. That's one thing that initially impressed me about Georgia Tech's QB Josh Nesbitt last year. He could run pretty fast and hit defenders like a truck 90 times in a game and still get back up. It's too bad his throwing accuracy sucks or else he'd probably end up being one of the best QB's to ever play the game. I've seen him take devastating hits and still bounce back up and keep on playing. It took someone breaking his arm this year to finally get him out of the game.

Anyway.

I wouldn't completely discount Green Bay's ability to run the ball. RB John Kuhn isn't too bad. Their rookies James Starks and Brandon Jackson are showing some promise too. There really isn't anyone who can rely on a running game like they used to due to the fact that all the players in the NFL keep on getting bigger and stronger and faster every year. I don't really remember all these concussions and injuries being as big of a factor in the past. There's always been injuries in football, but the injuries seem to be more severe these days.

The Super Bowl is this Sunday....... it's getting close to the time to make your predictions and prognostications....so answer these two simple questions:

(1) Who wins?
(2) What's the score?

Glad I didn't put any money on that one. :D

And now comes the abysmal void of 7 months without any football. Not that we'll even HAVE a 2011 NFL season come September. I haven't kept up with the progress of the CBA. Hopefully they don't end up completely butchering the preseason and training camp period like the league heads are determined to do. And hopefully the whole damn league doesn't go on strike. Pro football's been immune to such silliness throughout it's history up until now. I'd like to continue thinking that it's the last sport played by REAL MEN who do it for the love of the great game rather than it becoming nothing but a business of merchandising and numbers.
