For the zillionth time, (but for the benefit of anyone reading THIS thread and not one of the numerous others rehashing this same issue),...

the truth is: EVERYONE around here genuinely wanted to be her friend. I was her friend for as long as she would allow it. When she first showed up, I was one of the first friends she made around here. I recruited her into EoM. Unfortunately, her conception of a "Quake2 clan" was informed by watching how CRU (Campers-R-Us) would team up against people on the Vanilla and DM servers. While playing on a server with her... I fragged her, and she got upset and quit the clan on the spot. I later explained to her that "normal" Q2 clans do not team against others on an FFA server because it is considered poor sportsmanship. We remained friends, she rejoined EoM. A day or two later, I ran into her again on Vanilla, I shot her, and AGAIN she got upset and left the clan on the spot. This time I did not attempt to talk her into rejoining again, as clearly she would've been happier in a clan like CRU. And so... she joined CRU. Before long, she got upset with them over something silly and gameplay related and left that clan too. She began making overrides for xatrix mod. Quadz and others gave her lots of help figuring out how to do it properly. She even started her own clan. But for some reason... (I'm not aware of the particulars) she got upset at people in her clan, and kicked EVERYONE out of the clan. The people she kicked out of her clan wanted to continue playing Xatrix and her overrides. At some point, she began threatening to sue Quadz over the usage of her overrides. Long story short, she became too much of a potential liability for Quadz, so she was banned. I'm not sure how it works, but they came to an agreement with some sort of license that would allow Tastyspleen to legally use the content that she "created". (It was not original content - she never made any maps, she converted maps to the Q2 format and then made overrides for item placement, that is all.) It was a perpetually repeating trend - she'd find a reason to get upset with EVERYONE she came into contact with.

Anyone attempting to tell this story any other way was never her friend and never had any contact with her. If they ever did become her friend, inevitably that friendship would've ended with her manifesting a reason to become upset and add them to her ever-growing list of enemies.

Can I sympathize? Sure. It's gotta suck going through life not being able to maintain any stable relationships with anyone.

But I'm not going to patronize someone with a mental malfunction by treating them any differently than anyone else. It's not that I don't "respect" everyone... which I don't, because respect is EARNED. Courtesy, on the other hand, should be given freely to all until they refuse to give it back. I don't care what condition you have, no one is above anyone else in this life - Sam fuckin' Colt made sure of it.

I started typing this last night but went to bed:

quadz and her were fighting like cats and dogs for a while, in the server, on her blog, and in IRC.

Perhaps this is a poor choice of words, but the hostility shown from spawngirl was not shared by quadz. I don't think I've ever seen quadz "fighting like cats and dogs" with anyone.

I regarded SpawnGirl as a friend, and during that initial time period we'd exchanged (if I recall correctly) hundreds of emails about Q2 mapping and overrides, as well as ideas about navigating online social environments, de-escalating rather than escalating drama; etc.

Even when relations became strained and I was receiving paranoid accusations from her about being in league with her detractors, and suchlike, I believe it's truthful to say I never once responded in a mean-spirited or derogatory way.

I’m not really sure what is wrong with people these days. Why can’t we just be civil and nice to each other? Unfortunately the past few years have emboldened certain people into thinking it’s acceptable to treat other humans with complete disrespect and disdain for any number of reasons they make up in the head. It isn’t.

I don’t agree with this thinking and I’d like to think most of the community feels the same way. Luckily, I happen to be in the unique position to be able to do something about it. Being outwardly racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc is not acceptable in this community and it won’t be tolerated. The fact that I have to write this in 2022, is so absurd it makes me want to scream.

There were some (inadequate) chat and name filters enabled on the Q2 servers. They were however not entirely configured properly and as a result were not very effective. I’ve fixed this as of this afternoon. Not a comprehensive set of filters, but I’m sure they’ll be added to and tweaked over time.

The DM server has turned into a disgusting and hateful place. I’m not sure when or why this happened, but it needs to change. Just today I witnessed people joining, immediately going spec and just talking shit and not playing. I understand shittalk is just part of the game, but it’s not the fun tongue-in-cheek banter it used to be. It morphed into keyboard-warriors thinking they’re anonymous because it’s over the internet and just trying to be as hateful as humanly possible because they think they can.

So we’re going to be filtering out overtly hateful and discriminatory content to the best of our abilities. People will be warned, muted and banned if necessary.

I don’t want this community to get any smaller than it already is, but if you can’t get with the program and start treating people with basic human decency, you’re not wanted here anymore. This isn’t just aimed at people in this thread or on the forum, but all the players on the gameservers as well. Do better.

I have attached a video that properly demonstrates how exactly this worked, you really had to play on it to believe it. It was very surreal to be so accurate with hitscan weapons against people playing in Europe. The truth is, nobody up until that point or any point after had the foresight to fix Quake 2's god-awful netcode. Razor cracked the code of ignoring latency for hitscan weapons and put it up for everybody to play with and test with their own very eyes and fingers in an OpenTDM environment (because this worked with every mod and that's all that Euros played).

Imagine creating the single most revolutionary thing for a game filled with people who hate you and having every dipshit Euro in the Eastern Bloc who've been talking shit about you for years come grovelling to you because they don't want to play with a 60 ping in the UK anymore.

Now imagine somebody posts about said revolutionary thing on a forum filled with people who hate you, and in a hilariously prideful display of self-flagellation, everybody completely writes off this thing that would only help them and make the game more enjoyable for everybody as something "nobody cares about".
