Not really obscure, but I think this band really has brought back the rock vibe that has been missing for waaaay to long.  Simple rock, sweet duel solo.

Then this Zepplin feeling toon....

(Did you notice that the second link is the same as the first??? :exqueezeme: )

Ooops - seems like I would have mastered the art of copy and paste by now, lets give this one a try.  Really good song.

And even this, starts slow then just gets great

I agree, this band allows Jack to be the rock guitarist he can really be - I mean there is only so much The White Stripes can do.  Along with the fact that is has been years since you can see a whole band just rip it up together.

Any of the live songs from Jools Holland are worth checking out.

I had no idea the White Stripes guy was also with the Raconteurs. But I don't follow current music anymore. Good stuff, Lidz.

Donald Fagen cut called "Snowbound". All the typical elements of Steely Dan, jazzy modulations, intricate but not overly-complicated. A nice cut from the 90s with an interesting video.

Not really obscure, but a good one nonetheless. I think this video was beautifully done. The song wouldn't have had had nearly the same feel and effect if Johnny Cash had done it in his younger years.

Very good song - I remember the first time hearing this version on the radio, before the video came out.  Right after he died, I think.  And something about his death and this song, just hit a nerve, almost brought me to tears while I was driving - in a very manly way of course!  ;)

His wife of many years, June Carter, had died not too long before that and you can see the pain of her loss in his face and in his music.

That eccentric Icelandic, Bjork, with another unusual song called "Isobel". The song has a nice build and feels very "cinematic".

That's what I thought, but apparently this video was shot before her death. She's standing on the stairs behind him in a few shots.

I always thought it was extremely weird that of all the artists Johnny Cash could have covered, he picked Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails. Johnny Cash was a Jesus-freak after finally getting sober, and Trent Reznor has always been anti-Christian and blasphemous with a lot of his music. I'm not a real big Nine Inch Nails fan myself, but I do think that Trent Reznor is a superb lyricist. His lyrics are very well written with lots of thought and emotion packed into them. Tons of other "alternative" musicians attempt to wax poetic with their lyrics, and in my opinion most of them only wax pathetic. They use all kinds of symbolic metaphors that only THEY know what the hell it means. When I read or hear song lyrics, I want to be able to know what the point is without having to read interviews where the artist explains the veiled significance of each word they chose to use. Sorry, but that kind of confusion ruins any attempt to inject emotional expression into a song.

Speaking of NIN... Like I said, I'm not a big fan of NIN, but I've always really liked this song. I love the video too. It's grotesquely weird and fits the song perfectly. This is the uncensored version, the one that MTV never had the balls to air without doing closeup shots to obscure the naked chick or the monkey on the crucifix.

I've been a huge fan of this band since they started back in the 90's. A metal supergroup called Down. Members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, and Crowbar. This one is from their first album, which was pretty much all straightforward metal. DownII was a little more experimental, some really interesting bluesy and jazz infused stuff. Down III, which was released not long ago, continues their experimental evolution. If you're a metal and classic rock fan, you should check these guys out.

Like I said, this one is from their first album, which was released back in 1994 or 1995 I think.

Back ON-TOPIC with the "obscure"...

I'm sure you guitar nuts know who Zakk Wylde is. Some of you are probably Black Label Society fans. You may not remember his first solo band, Pride & Glory, which eventually switched it's lineup a little (due to some legal bullshit) and became Black Label Society. I've always kinda liked how Zakk sounds a little like Greg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band. I think for a short time, he was even IN the Allman Brothers (or was going to tour with them as guitarist) but they gave him the boot when he refused to adapt to their mellow stylings. You'll notice how he always adds "child", "son", or "momma" on the end of every damn line, an obvious attempt to sound more like southern rock, something he STILL does. ::) Kinda retarded how he tries so damn hard to look and sound like a southern outlaw with his music these days... and then he talks and his accent reeks of New Jersey yankee-boy, which is where he's from. Eh, oh well, he did a decent job of infusing some southern rock style in with some hard rock on this CD. There were a few other good songs on this CD too, I doubt you'd be able to find it in stores anymore.

Before all the Beyonces etc there were some true soul female artists. Here's one from the 80's. No hyped high note singing and overly dramatic presentation. Just a really good song done by an English lady called Princess. Love the key changes in this....
