Haha, I had the opportunity to stand behind Thresh at the Q1 tournament where he won the Ferrari. Those images are still burned in my mind as some of the most competetive playing I've ever seen.

There was competative play at a tournament... 

Right; but lest we forget, Thresh and those like him did used to play on public Q1 servers...

It seems that most people here are correlating efficiency with 'doing whatever it takes to get that efficiency'.. but that's not true in all situations. I mean, there may be some kind of relation between the 2 but there's definitely something more to it when I win consecutive FFA matches with decent ffa players while doing nothing but picking up the closest weapon and attempting flick shots during trick jumps. What ely was doing was mostly due to spam/probability. Which yeah, much of FFA is spam and probability, but it's still possible for someone to get extremely good at FFA. Basically i'm saying that this is NOT what elysium is doing. To say that he is the ideal player that ID intended for ffa? 

i'm not a better ffa player than elysium i assume, but it's definitely not hard for me to compete with him on any map, no matter the items. I don't have time to watch the demo atm, does he use timers?

this was on the dm server. thats where i play most of the time 

dm vanilla, same thing to me. Makes no difference, most likely it was dm though, you're right. besides like I mentioned I was speaking towards ffa in general.

I think there's a lot more to consider before accusing someone of cheating based on the fact that they whoop some major ass. From the date on his posts in these forums, I'd say it's safe to assume that Elysium's been consistently playing Quake2 online for a long time, probably since it came out 10 years ago. A person who has that much practice under their belt is probably going to be better than the average joe blow who hasn't played as often. From his posts here, it's obvious that he has an advantage over some players by way of a better gaming setup (ie mouse polling rate, FPS and monitor refresh settings, etc). By spectating his playing, there's much to be learned by the new player. I'm pretty new to the multiplayer Q2, I've only been playing Q2 for the past 2 or 3 months. The only time I played before that was back in 2000 on the old Mplayer community. When I found TS and starting playing here, I was dumbfounded at how I consistently got my ass shredded by EVERYONE. I swore that EVERYONE was using bots and hacks, and I made a total dick of myself by accusing people of cheating. Since then I've become educated on all the tweaks that players use to improve their game, and sure enough, my game has improved too. I've also found that any old idiot with a common bot or hack they've aquired by scouring the web cannot use it here, anticheat does a good job of preventing those from connecting. If someone is cheating, they aren't the common computer gamer and/or user. They know their shit, and have modified something correctly to escape detection by anticheat.  If I'm suspicious of someone using a bot, I spectate them playing. From what I've heard, (when a person has a railgun and autofire enabled) a persons crosshairs will be looking one direction, quickly look at their opponent and fire, and then move back to where they were aimed before, all in a fraction of a second. I'd assume that no matter what move is performed by the player using the bot when the fire key is held down, they will stay locked onto the target, which would make it pretty easy to spot by spectating them. I'm not sure if this would be noticeable like that from the behind the shoulder viewing angle, but I've seen it first-hand from the in-eyes cam on Mplayer servers years ago (where TONS of people used bots).

I would almost say that wallhacking isn't much of a "cheat". Obviously it is, but I'm specifically referring to players who aren't good aimers/shot timing calculators. People who cheat obviously do so because they suck normally. I've spectated Elysium playing several times. From what I've seen, he's simply a damn good player. He's obviously learned to time his shots perfectly and predict opponent movement very well.

I'm certainly not saying that there aren't cheaters who play on TS servers, I've seen one or two. From what little experience I have here so far, I'd say that cheating is extremely rare. And if someone wonders why they can't seem to be an effective player, take the time to get educated on ways to tweak things and improve your game. The information is out there and available, take advantage of it. Otherwise, (and this is not directed at anyone personally) continue to piss and moan because everyone owns you and continue to look like a douchebag when you constantly accuse better players of cheating.

Phffft. I don't need to be in btf to form my own opinion about them . Hey I have nothing against you xtyfe but you remind me of people who have quit smoking and then suddenly do a 180 on the people they've smoked with. I understand your point of view on being fed up with competitive bs and maybe even certain btf members but I can tell you that using every opportunity to make btf look bad won't change anything because most people here are wise enough to form their own opinions. Personally I never look at a clan as a whole but I look at the individual members and unfortunately there will always be bad apples. But what usually happens if you attack a clan as a whole is that the cool guys will feel wronged (because they care about the clan) while the actual lamers in the clan couldn't care less. No one is going to look the other way if you catch a btf member who's -clearly- using cheats but you can't automatically blame it on the rest of the clan when that happens. At least that's how I see it.
