I'll agree with you as far as the notion that frequent updates are the only way to stay ahead of the hackers.

That said, there are significant reasons from my point of view to embrace r1ch's anticheat.dll.

r1ch has done more for q2 server & network technology than anyone since idsoftware. He's available on IRC and actively helps us with catching cheaters. I've met him at quakecon. So there's a certain trust issue, which is worth something to me, compared to some random supposedly improved version of an old hacked client patched by someone who may or may not be trustworthy.

Plus, r1ch's anticheat is more than a simple client side solution. It's the only q2 anticheat I know of that has significant server-side integration. And its client side technical implementation kicks ass compared to previous anticheat attempts.

It's also the only anticheat solution I know of that doesn't lock you down to a specific client.

I could go on, but I'm not even supposed to be here.

i'm trying to tell you someone hacked his code already. i'm not satisfied with one version of anticheat it doesn't make me feel secure on a server knowing that someone can circumvent it and have total and conplete blind trust in the anticheat client.dll.
he has made great strides i agree but i think we need more than 1 soultion if we are gonna be truly secure from this threat and banign the using of holywater is not the way to go about it in my honest opinion. i've been on your server for 2 months trying to get people to join the server and it's starting to pick up a little but now by limiting me on the server it's gonna make me quit the game altogther or start my own server i haven't decided yet. the lack of support is very dissapointing and ihope you change your ways . but as of now these are the only options you leave me with so your server is gonna stay empty it seems so idont se any point in keeping it up.however i will accomplish my goal with or without any support. i hope your reconsider your decision.

If you're really interested in helping, I recommend you contact r1ch with all the information you have about a hacked version of anticheat.dll. Who did you hear about it from? Did they give you a copy? etc.

While I appreciate your attempts at getting folks to play on our ctf server, it's just one of 40 servers in the network. It's not that I don't care--but I spend hours a day on this stuff already, every day. Not to mention thousands of dollars a year. I'm out of time. If you being required to use anticheat.dll makes you want to quit and start your own server, that's 100% up to you.

Frankly I just want things to run smoothly. If they run smoothly with you here, fine. If it's going to save me headaches if you go somewhere else, I won't complain about that either.

dude, holywater was basically a replica of nocheat. All evilpope did was take bryce's program and change it SLIGHTLY so there was an anticheat that wasn't hacked as much as nocheat. However, it's just as easily hacked, and as sean said it was hacked near the day it came out. Evilpope was the creator of holywater and posted his last version of it (I'm not aware of the number) on q2p then totally dropped it and went on to making q2a. You really have no clue what you're talking about dude, anticheat.dll is the way to go

Maybe you could do a bit of your own research, and figure out that these people are telling you the stone cold truth.
Holywater is ancient and didn't work for long after the last update. It is unable to recognize any of the various hax that have been created since and it was hacked just like the nocheat client within days of it's last release.
thus it is useless. Using r1q2/egl/aprq2 and anticheat.dll is the only CURRENT anticheat system that works and can effectively negate all known hax. (with a bit of configuring..)

Drop it buddy. you aren't going to convince anyone to use holywater as their main anticheat system.
If you continue to push it, people may start to wonder if you just want to be able to use your hacked copy of holywater without being caught.
