Hiya Banes,

thanks for your input, that's exactly what we're looking for.

For the Tournament brackets, we've been thinking about http://www.bracketmaker.com which can hold up to 64-players for many kind of tournaments.

I've seen many GXMod's server, and I've always seen 'Timelimit' matches. I believe it is more convenient for some reasons. But we can always hold a vote about this.

And yes, we got our server set up: q2.lostourmind.net:27930 and as soon as the maps are voted. They'll be rotating on the server.

A couple Idea's / Suggestions

Make each game fast, like 5 min, if best 2 out of 3

Max out the # of spectators allowed on the server, as it can be as much fun to watch as to play.

Regarding client ...

Would it be a point to force the use of same client for all participants?

I'm not saying that anyone would cheat but e.g. Nocheat would ensure that everyone uses the same models etc. (no oversizing).

Well,

The server can be set so as to force a skin (male/female) - and set it will be.

As for cheating, if anyone's fool enough. Every game is recorded by a referee, IPs logged. Of course that means disqualification and most likely a ban from Tastyspleen servers, if Console concurs.

That being said. NoCheat is recommended - but we don't need to make it mandatory.

But ... isn't it so that any standard q2 skin can be modified to extremely bright or oversized (player is actually bigger and easier to hit)?

NoCheat reports modified models. No biggie tho.

p.s. props to clan kea for getting a working tourney server, is this where the tourney will be held? if not i recommend tasty spleen start up their own tourney server as soon as possible so we can all begin practicing 1v1 on the same server we will be playing on to get used to the ping and settings

This tourney is NOT being held at the {KEA} server....this is a tastyspleen production.....I was just using that as an example to show that if those responsible for setting up the tastyspleen sever are having map rotation problems or things like that....that TheFixer{KEA} and I just went through figureing it all out about a month ago and may be able to help with getting this one set up ..... If Needed.

Can't you get the same effect playing full screen with a resolutioni of 400x600??? Maybe not...but NoCheat Crashes my game after like 2-3 rounds and dosen't even come close to the smoothness offered by r1q2...IMO.... but Hell....I really don't know about all that NoCheat stuff...

i think this is a bad idea, 5 minutes is way too fast, if we do it timed it should be atleast 10 minutes, 15 would be better, since its best 2 out of 3 the maximum it would be 30 minutes or 45 minutes, i dont think thats asking too much of the players

as far as the skin models and stuff like that, where do we draw the line?

i can install a pak file to make a better cursor and everyone bright and grunt model(and no, changing the model you view does NOT make the actual bounding box bigger and therefore easier to hit, well it may be easier to hit because you can see all that you can hit, but not because there is more mass to hit) is that really cheating? i also increase my gl_modulation very high to make everything brighter so people can hide from me in darkened areas, is that considered cheating? i dont see why, im not playing a 'who has better vision in the dark' game, im playing a game where dodging, aiming, and map control are the dominant factors, not how my video reproduces the game

the next option would be NO map pack files allowed, and in this case everyone would pick the athena model as it is the best skin to AVOID detection with, it blends in well, and has a smaller viewing model, this is how most gxmod servers go, but alot of people do install the pak files anyway as its not banned

and then the most illogical option would be to allow everyone to use whatever model they wanted, and then people who download would fall victim to playing against player models that are very small even though the bounding box is the same, it throws people off and makes it easier for the opponents to hide, "but people dont have to download the models, and they can just delete the models that are bothersome" well in that case i find all the models and skins bothersome except for the male grunt

i personally think the first option should be used, i see no problem with it, i dont consider it cheating, it does not help your aim, your dodging, your ability to control the map, it may PREVENT you from hiding in dark places from the other player who is using the pak, but there are better ways to hide, it just improves general visibility of your enemy, its not a bot or a wall hack, good 1v1 players dont need the darkness in order to hide well


chackal, i dont think taking a number for a 1v1 with jquest would do any good if the coward refuses to 1v1 anyone, i could be number 1 in line and he can always chicken out, anyway if you dont mind doing a friendly 1v1 we can always practice for the tournament, my aim is banesone, hit me up

Considering the signups are already open, and it hadn't been mentionned - as well as it's not much of a biggie, and even more that you can get a similar effect by playing in your video configs. As well as the NoCheat program being buggy for some users (and the trouble it'd make for those who would have to install it). We will not make it mandatory for the First Edition  . Let's baptize this first Edition The Fairplay Tourney 

I agree with Banes on the 15min Timelimit.
Most likely female/athena will be the one.

I'm not saying its cheating, but by forcing standard unmodified models, everyone would have the same startingpoint tournament wise. Not everyone know how to do this and that would give some an advantage. By oversized I mean models that exceed the bounding box thus making it an "easier" hit.

its the players responsibility to tweak their own q2 to maximize performance and useability, i dont see why the more resourceful players should be faulted for the short comings of other players, if we do our homework, why arent we allowed to use that knowledge for our benefit, not everyone knows about double jumping either, or strafe jumping, or circle jumping, or how to "paint" someone with the chain gun, its impossible to have the same starting point, i dont see why i cant use my knowledge of tweaking my q2 just the same as i can use my knowledge of double jumping to get around the map quicker


btw for this tournament, i know its kind of obvious, but just to make sure everyone is clear, it needs to be weapons stay OFF, that is very important

The tourney mod can force whatever team model/skin you want. Changeing whatever model your playing with when you log onto the server automatically to be whatever model/skin the admin sets the config up with....so I really don't see there being a unfair advantage to someone loging on as the helicopter....cause it will force that players model/skin to ..... female/athena....male/grunt....or whatever it is in the config.
